105-Year-Old World’s Oldest Orca Is Spotted Splashing Waves Like A Youngster
105-year-old Granny, also known as J2, is believed to be the oldest killer whale in the world. She was recently spotted by a photographer Heather MacIntyre off the coast of San Juan Island, in Washington state. Granny was splashing waves with a bunch of younger orcas and she was so energetic, you’d hardly give her 70!
“I was happy to see them socializing, as these animals are more social than humans, but to know it would be short-lived was saddening,” MacIntyre told Bored Panda. “These orcas used to spend all day socializing and breeding when there was ample food. Since there is a definite food shortage, the southern resident orcas are spending more and more time fragmented and broke up to search for food. I hope for a time where they aren’t as stressed out and can do that once again, but that’s going to take some huge conservation efforts and people being conscious of their consumerism as a collective effort.”

Could anyone explain the last sentence? ("They’re just on a totally different level of consciousness then humans are") I guess the "then" is a slip, but I still do not get it. What does it mean to be on a different level of consciousness? I thought, biologically, a creature is conscious, or it is not. Conscious in the sense of cognizant does not make sense to me, either...probably as in aware, but even that I do not fully get. Anyone?
