Throughout the years I have been fortunate to have the ability to travel extensively around Iceland. In the last two years, I traveled for moths to every town and village as well as many natural wonders in Iceland. Although working on my web page project Hit Iceland to make Iceland more accessible to those who are interested in visiting us I always had the time to enjoy each place. My usual tour was a week up to 10 days. I had visited most of the places before, but there were a few I was visiting for the first time.
Almost every time when I came home from a trip I told my wife that I had been to the most beautiful place in the country. The most beautiful waterfall, the most stunning hot spring area, the most magnificent canyon, the most interesting basalt column site, the most impressive town or village. At one point she asked me: How is that possible Einar? How can this ALWAYS be the MOST something you have ever visited? Well here are some of my favorite photos from many of those favorite places and hopefully you can understand my dilemma.

Stuðlagil canyon in Jökuldalur valley is just recently discovered and has an interesting story
This place is almost like divine or like a twilight zone or a place in another dimention.
Dynjandi waterfall in the Westfjords is a one of a kind place
I constantly struggle with the thought that Dynjandi is the most impressive and beautiful waterfall in Iceland. But I keep putting Gullfoss on the top.
It is extremely impressive to see a 16 ton humpback breach in the ocean
Few things have left me totally breathless. This is one of them.
During the Eyjafjallajokull eruption in 2010 I spent days photographing the eruption
I just couldn’t take my camera away from this event. I placed my car and camera in front of the eruption, about two kilometers from the crater and shot and shot.
Reykjavík is a great place to spend new years eve
Major preperation but it most certanly payed off.
Háifoss in the Icelandic highland is the second highest waterfall in Iceland
Understanding attractions to waterfalls is understandable when you are in front of a waterfall like Háifoss.
Hiking in the remote highland is the best way to recharge your batteries
Hiking in the vast Icelandic highland is the definition of peace and relaxation.
I have always thought of this house as terribly remote and isolated
This is such a weird house and such a strage place.
The small town Húsavík in the Northern Region is always a joy to visit
The number one on my list of most interesting towns in Iceland.
When travelling in Iceland you will continue to see beautiful horses
It is almost impossible to continue driving when you see a flock of horses running. It is somthing so powerful.
Sometimes the northern lights are so crazy you almost become scared
Powerful moving aurora borealis is a sight that is like nothing else.
I have always loved the idea that you can walk behind the waterfall Seljalandsfoss
The time is about eleven oclock in the evening in June.
The geyser Strokkur is a strange animal erupting every 10 to 20 minutes
It is amazing that this dude is a natural construction but not engineered by men.
On the top of Eyjafjallajokull glacier and volcano
Shortly before the eruption I took my daughter on a trip to the top of Eyjafjallajokull volcano It was a great tour to a place with a magnificent view.
Hjálparfoss waterfall in early autumn
Combining the colors of autumn and natural wonders is always fun. Not the least when you also have a little bit of snow.
Krossneslaug is probably one of the most remote swimmingpools on the planet
Taking a warm swim in a clean warm pool heated with geothermal water in one of the most remote places. Well you need to do it to understand it.
Hveradalir near Kerlingarfjöll in the Icelandic highland is simply a wonderland
Walking this large area of hot springs, boiling clay and mountains of all colors you are constantly torn between thaughts of enjoyment and intimidation.
Jökulsárgljúfur canyon in the Northern Region
The canyon is home to many natural wonders like Dettifoss waterfall and Ásbyrgi Hólmatungur
Jökulsárlón iceberg lagoon
No wonder that this is a place on many bucketlists
One of my favorite places in the highland in Iceland, Landmannalaugar
Landmannalaugar is only one of many places in the Icelandic highland that is a joy to visit

Share on FacebookHello, Einar! These are lovely shots. Seven days this coming june....we are doing the ring road minus the westfjords. Staying in Skógar, Höfn, Egilssđatir, Akureyri, Hvammstangi, and of course Reykjavik. We are going to try to do whale watching, dive Silfra, and avoid crowds. We are NOT going to the blue lagoon, but will go out of our way for lovely vistas. Any thing you feel we should not miss? Thank you!!
Hi Jessica I think this is a very good plan. The Ring Road https://hiticeland.com/iceland/notes/the-many-reasons-why-the-ring-road-is-the-best-option-for-your-travel-plans-to-iceland If you take time to do some walking I would not miss Stuðlagil, which is on the road from Egilsstaðir to Akureyri. https://hiticeland.com/places_and_photos_from_iceland/stu%C3%B0lagil-canyon-in-j%C3%B6kla Best regards and have fun in Iceland Einar
