While recently browsing Instagram, I came upon an image that made me catch my breath. It was of a butterfly that had been transformed into a Steampunk masterpiece!

Artist Emme Rigby creates beautifully dreamy flying insects with enough gears and gizmos to captivate any Steampunk without being heavy handed in the mechanical department.

Sometimes Steampunk art can feel a bit cluttered, like you’re in the bowels of a dirigible, but Rigby’s work is the opposite, expansive, uncluttered and unfettered by “too much.” Her spare images are dreamy and perfectly blend the fragility of the subject with the brassiness of strong metal gears and screws.

I could see these beautiful creatures in any number of Steampunk stories and I want all of them on my walls.
