I was hanging out with a new friend from San Francisco and my little dog, Leo, in my apartment when the first bolt of lightning struck. As much as it scared Leo, it excited me. While Leo ran to his dog house, I ran to get my camera. I wanted to capture as much lightning as possible. I set up my tripod on the balcony, and my friend joined me to watch the show

Each bolt of lightening mattered. And each one was as intense as the last. We were so excited, we vibrated like kids who’d just won a video game. Eventually, even Leo came out to see what was happening. By the end of the storm, I’d taken 324 photos, capturing 50 bolts of lightening. I hadn’t wanted to miss a moment.

Usually, lightning storms last less than 30 minutes, and lighting sightings are few and difficult to catch because of pollution. This was an unusual, and rare occasion.

In post-production, I chose 20 of my favorite shots, and blended them together to create this: a single image documenting an amazing, very unique lightning storm in São Paulo.
