Winter is coming. Luckily, with extreme knitting you can create a giant-sized blanket to keep you warm and cozy throughout those long and cold nights. Stranger to the craft? Don’t worry, one blogger created an awesome tutorial to get you started.
Usually, you need really big knitting needles for projects like these, but Laura Birek found a way how to use PVC tubes and get the same result. Her DIY is a money-saver, too!
You will need these items:
1) rolls of chunky yarn (you can get it on Amazon);
2) two long 1 ½ inch PVC tubes;
3) duct tape.

This extreme knitting DIY tutorial will keep you warm throughout winter

Step 1. Use duct tape to sharpen the ends of PVC tubes

Step 2. Use your new ‘knitting needles’ like you would the regular ones (knit one, purl two). About 24 loops across make a decent-sized blanket

Step 3a. “Seal” the edges by using the end of the cord and weaving it in and out of the loops that make up the edge

Step 3b. Then, tie a loose knot when you run out of cord

The last step will provide your blanket extra durability, because the weave should hold in its place

What about the yarn or chord? Where on earth do you find that much, in that size?
There are a lot of sellers on etsy with this wool, I got mine here https://www.etsy.com/listing/265746562/chunky-yarn-giant-knitting-bulky-yarn :)
Load More Replies...This blanket looks really beautiful and cosy! (P.S. The photo with the cat stole my heart..) :D <3
I really want to make your gigantic of knit blanket but don't want to use itchy shedding roving. I'm a total beginner and want to make it as a Christmas gift. Can you tell what where and how much to buy? Thanks so much I absolutely love the one you made but I can't have sheding. kimblejoanne@gmail.com
DO NOT DO THIS. That blanket would not last long and is almost impossible to wash. The material used is unspun wool, which means it has nothing whatsoever holding the fibers together. Even if you felt it "slightly" parts of it will start to fray after a short time because individual fibers aren't even as long as exposed part of the stitch. Second, pure wool felts easily, especially when in this state where all the fibers are open to the elements. You would have to soak and dry it on a rack, because agitation of any other wash method would cause it to felt and shrink or fray. With the yarn being so thick, it takes forever to dry. IF YOU MUST DO THIS I recommend using several strands of chunky superwash yarn out together. Those have more structural integrity and can be washed normally.
What does that mean 'chunky super wash yarn.? Will that she'd less and not be as itchy?
