One of the things I’m asked the most is, “what camera do you use?” This question kind of bugs me because with my experience I realized that it really has very little to do with the camera, it’s the person behind the camera.

Much like a hammer. If someone can’t use a hammer correctly, it won’t matter if they use a $12 hammer or an $89 hammer, they still won’t be any good at hitting nails. Whereas if you learn how to use a hammer correctly, (and though you might prefer the $89 hammer) you could still do a great job with ether one of the hammers.

When I first started dabbling in photography I had the, better camera, better photo, mind set. I thought if I just get an expensive professional camera that I could take professional photos. NOPE! My photos still looked like snap shots from a cell phone. Sound familiar?

After a couple of months, lot’s of research, learning and mostly practice, I started to understand that the camera was just a tool, not the deciding factor of your art. Yes it’s nice to have good tools but it’s not the tools that create the art, it’s the artist.

I wanted to prove this by finding an old cheap camera, (I found an old Canon t2i for $200) and a cheap lens, (a Panasonic 50mm 1.7, $30) and take some professional photos with it.

I recorded the entire process and put it together in a free course called The Photography Secrets Course to help other aspiring photographers to learn and grow and not have to make the same mistakes I made. The course is 4 hours long and has 13 videos.

Here are the photos I took in this experiment and I go through each one of them in the course from from artistic techniques to how I use the camera to actually shooting and then post processing them in Lightroom and Photoshop.

If you would like to take the course, you can sign up on my website. The course is completely free because I want everyone to benefit from it.
