Artist Captures The Irony Of Everyday Moments In 26 “Yes, But” Illustrations (New Pics)
Interview With ArtistHaving real-life contradictions is what makes us human. That is one of the reasons why it is so challenging to put all humanity in one box of understanding.
If you have been here at Bored Panda for a while, you might have seen that there is no one better at noticing and illustrating these mind-bending ideas of contradictions than the Moscow-based illustrator Gudim Anton. He is well known for creating short comic books full of visual puns and quirks that offer a fresh perspective on the modern world.

Oh no, but they aren't CHOOSING to stay in place, cat is choosing FOR THEM to stay in place.
Anton has also created an account on Instagram called “Yes, But” that now has over 600k followers. It includes only two-panel comics telling ironic short stories based on our current society and its values.
We were wondering if the artist’s view was any different than it was in the beginning. Anton shared: “The topics that I began to raise have changed + the world itself is also changing. Many problems that were relevant before have lost their relevance, on the other hand, new ones have appeared. I would like to say that my comics have become more positive, but looking at my recent work, I can't say that.”
Never trust autumn leaves, there's a reason its colored yellow and brown..
Mom bod is not a thing. Age gaps of male and female co stars are a thing. Just saying.
Mom bod is a thing, a lot of AFAB people are left with a figure that doesnt fit beauty standards even if it used to after birth.
Load More Replies...Same with movies - women need to be covered up as much as possible to fight objectification, yet handsome men run around shirtless for at least a few scenes (Looking at you Marvel).
Well. Until we've reached total equality (hopefully in my lifetime) I don't mind some male eye candy. To pass the time.
Load More Replies...well, i say- I have no opinion on this, both beauty standards are garbage
I guess I never got the memo... I... don't get turned off if a guy is under 6 ft... I mean... yeah, I know I'm a shortie myself (no, seriously... like... 5'1" if you stretch me)... but I've heard some people (who are around my height) whine about the same thing.. and I wonder "What is your problem? Do you REALLY want to have to climb your SO like a tree every time you want a kiss???" One of the absolutely most smokin' hot guys I've ever seen in my life is like... 5'7"... or less... I can barely look at him he's so good looking.. and I think it is **INSANE** anyone would even think of not dating him because of his height.
Maybe that’s true, but it is also true that when it comes to men, fat shaming is totally accepted.
As a fat person, I can tell you with 100% certainty that fat shaming is perfectly acceptable against ANY fat person it seems. In a world where we are (rightfully) standing up against any of the "ism's", shaming fat people will forever be the "acceptable" form of discrimination. It's like judgmental, ignorant, terrible human beings need something to spew their vitriol at without consequence so enter the fat shaming.
Load More Replies...Everyone is entitled to set and abide by their own standards when looking for a partner - just not entitled to force them on other people and demand that they fit their ideals. Even doctors can only _advise_ on a healthy shape (and that advice changes far too often). On a side note, though, men can do very little to increase their height (without operations); women do have some control over their waistline, less so the other measurements.
I wanted a tall guy. My ex is shorter than me. Got pregnant. I am so happy I let go of that stupid idea that tall is so great. It's so much easier to push out tiny babies. A friend is tall and her husband is even taller. Their kids are giants. Her baby was 2 times bigger than mine. It costs a fortune on food and clothes. New clothes every 3 months. New shoes.
Attraction also has a lot to with attitudes & personality. Also there is nothing sadder than stick figures. A woman with curves & a great attitude is far more attractive than a woman with no curves & a dull personality. For men, it mostly depends on his socio-economic status. And men who have been emasculated are not men & real women don't like that.
So let's make it clear : if you reject a standard you didn't chose for yourself, so you are not allowed anymore to have preferences when it comes to your partner choices?
It means women are always complaining that it isn't fair how men want a woman with a perfect figure, but yet they also have standards of how they want men to be. You can't help what you're attracted to, it's a stupid thing to complain about.
Load More Replies...There is nothing wrong with women having standards for their sexual partners. People should be able to have sex with who they want. Males are routinely rejecting women for nothing but their bodies while women are expected to give every male a "chance," regardless of how unattractive she finds him. I personally LOVE that young women are starting to hold males to a standard and stop settling.
Mmmm, pretty sure it's other women who are pushing the female standards though. Men are a lot less picky than women think they are.
Load More Replies...Listen I only care about height cuz I’m tall. Don’t need to be with a guy that’s boob height. I find that awkward
Less of a problem for the gentlemen, I suspect...
Load More Replies...It is in monopoly money, 36"x24"x36", an hour glass figure is a bad standard for women, but wanting a 5'11" guy is fine.
Load More Replies...let me guess, you only want a boyfriend who's 6 feet or above, and you whine because "tHeRe ArE nO GoOd GuYs!!!" when your standards are too high. only 10% of men worldwide are 6 feet or taller!
Load More Replies...This is part 5 of the artist's comics, and we are sure it is not the last. We were wondering if these comics had personally influenced the artist.
“I think it's more accurate to say that I'm the one who influences the comics, not the comics influence me. Every comic is, in some way, a reflection of me at the moment. Even the fact that I chose this particular topic for drawing, and not another, characterizes me in some way.”
A paper straw, but wrapped in plastic! So much for reducing plastic waste!
Observation is the key to finding these fun and sometimes absurd contradictions. The artist has trained to see the world through a "yes, but" prism. We asked how his comics made the artist feel about humanity.
“I have been observing these contradictions for years, it so happened that I found a comic format with which it is convenient for me to talk about these contradictions. It is important that people adopted this format and began to use it themselves, sending me their observations. The world is full of contradictions. Of course, since I began to reflect on this in comics, I began to notice more and more contradictions.”
And lastly, we asked if there are any contradictions Anton constantly repeats himself. “This is a very good question, it got me thinking. I think that the main and most frequent contradiction in everyday life is to do what you do not want because it is necessary. If you think about how many things we do without pleasure, you can be very surprised.”
I don't understand why people want giant windows Infront of their bathtub? Even in rural areas it is relatively easy to look in. On the second floor? Grab some binoculars and you're set! I would be much too paranoid about some creep to enjoy the view.
Either, that's how they market or its literally called hotel star star star star star.
Hey at least i'm stacked in monopoly.. "HAHAHA NO ONE CAN BEAT ME!! ALL YOUR HOMES ARE MINE!! CAPITALISM!!!"
Yeah, I never understood concerts. Most people can barely see the artist and it’s way too loud.
If you are a dumbass, you can think 3845 times and still make a bad decision!
Lol. This reminds me of a Yoruba proverb. "Tie the wrapper around your butts, or roll your butts around the wrapper. The method doesn't matter, as long as the butts are covered." (Not the best translation) So, it doesn't matter how you hold your cups or utensils, as long as you get the job done.
In fairness this could be a safety issue. It could be that there are no good or even decent cycling paths around where they live.
"Just don't use the chopsticks" if she didn't use them you'd slam her for that too stfu
A lot of these just come across as pointlessly judgemental... I get that they're supposed to make us think about things from another perspective, but who hasn't already done this by about 20? Like, they're just not that mind-blowing.
I came down here to write this as well. Most of these aren't funny; just really judgemental. Overly preoccupied with other people's behavior, but in a needlessly haughty way.
Load More Replies...These are all kinda stupid, especially the vegan one. I also bite off the dead skin around my nails but I don't eat it.
I understood this was just judgemental s**t from someone who needs to get off their high horse the moment they went "Yes, but..." on a vegan biting their skin. That's a special level of judgemental a*****e.
Well I wasted 5 minutes of my life. These have no point and are judgemental and not even clear about the point they are attempting to make.
