With so many discussions about why women don't choose to work in male-dominated fields, one reason often gets overlooked. Frequently women who end up working a job surrounded only by men experience all sorts of diminishing behavior from their colleagues. The lack of respect, harassment, and blatant sexism hold women back from taking jobs in any male-dominated industry. Recently a Twitter user asked women to share their experiences while working only with men. This thread perfectly highlights the problem women face while trying their strengths in 'boys club' workplaces. Scroll below to read them!

One of those words that, on its face, doesn't seem condescending or mean but really is. Sort of like "good for you."

It's just as bad trying to ask some of these guys at a hardware store about anything, especially if you are accompanied by a male. They'll talk to them, not to you, even though you're the one with the question. Even if the guy you're with knows absolutely nothing about the subject. OR, BONUS, they stare at and ogle your boobs. Even if you're still in middle school.

I've had this exact experience - more than once! Now I get my DIY supplies online after googling/Youtubing for any advice I need. If we all did that those misog twats would all be out of jobs.

Experiences like these make me keep hiding my female identity to our fans (video game company). Good thing we only communicate in text form.

I work at a car dealership in service and I get this from men a lot. Sometimes I dont know what they are talking about and sometimes I do, but I would like to them not to assume I know nothing about cars.

Gosh, I hate it when people call you names even when the don't even know you. And he automatically assumed that the male worker would be smarter than the female worker. We should all treat each other equally, for we are all human. Black. White. Male. Female. We. Are All. Human. ❤❤

Feel this. I worked with contractors in a hardware store, we were having a job fair when a guy comes in looks at the paper and states that only idiots would work there but not me "You're too beautiful to be here, why don't you model?" I smiled and replied that I actually was and as I raised my middle finger I told him I was a professional have model

Often we go in to find a tool and my husband is clueless about this stuff, I'm not. Bloke listens to me ask the question and always directs all the answers to hubby. Different bloke each time.

I worked in a hardware store... the worst I got was when a customer asked to see the note. I asked "A note sir? "Yes, you need a note from your husband to be I here." The other good one was when an elderly gentleman handed me a gallon of paint and asked me to shake it for him...after I put the can in the shaker he said "Oh and the paint too."

I was asked if I like pictures of dead men. I was only 17 at the time and had no clue what that meant. I was working in a sporting goods store at the time.

I'm a guy and I love it when anyone refers to me as sweetheart. You're just being a b***h if you can't take that.

Any time I've ever said that to a woman I was attempting to be endearing and kind. You all are butthurt for no reason typically. (Not in the case above though. That's genuinely douchie)

Perhaps you were "trying" to be endearing and kind, but you weren't necessarily being endearing and kind. You're only half of the people in the interaction, and you have no idea of the past experiences of the person on the other end. Also, if that's your picture and you haven't figured this out on your own, then I wouldn't be surprised if their was "stealth" misogyny or "stealth" condescension in your use of endearments. Might want to try giving up being your idea of endearing and kind, and just go with civility instead.

It isn't always the men. I was standing at a yardage counter with several other women. A man walked in behind us. The female clerk looked right over our heads and asked how she could help him. Nice to feel invisible.

You have to be careful. I was working at Chase when they hired on a guy I had worked with previously. He was let go from his former job for pulling a chef's knife out of his briefcase and coming at someone. I went to HR. But because there was no absolute proof, they told me I couldn't warn people. I could get fired for that. I left an anonymous note in his bosses mailbox. Risked my job to warn him, but it seemed like a good risk / reward at the time.

I was in school in 7th grade and this (a*****e, sexist, etc) guy repeated the same thing that my (female) friend said, and the teacher said what a great idea it was. I raised my hand and said "Cristina actually said that first." The teacher told me to not disrespect her classroom.

It would be great to film it and report it to the police or smth, then they can't deny it

I can tell you having been a young pretty manager, people (Middle aged men) gave me a hard time, but you learn how to rise above it.

A male coworker called me bossy.. I told him he wouldn't call me bossy if I had a penis. That made the boys in the room super uncomfortable and I basked in that discomfort.

It doesn't matter whether you're into men or not, that comment is unsolicited and really creepy either way.

You should have done as he asked and let him talk to a man who could not schedule an appointment.
