With so many discussions about why women don't choose to work in male-dominated fields, one reason often gets overlooked. Frequently women who end up working a job surrounded only by men experience all sorts of diminishing behavior from their colleagues. The lack of respect, harassment, and blatant sexism hold women back from taking jobs in any male-dominated industry. Recently a Twitter user asked women to share their experiences while working only with men. This thread perfectly highlights the problem women face while trying their strengths in 'boys club' workplaces. Scroll below to read them!

Weir, isn't it? I wonder if there is some kind of association at work: Bones -> boners -> dickheads

I know this is supposed to be about horrible men, but can I just say WOW! I don't think I could watch anyone break anything!

Ortho is known for "Me doctor, break bone". Both male and females make the same joke. It's a very physical job. And yes, it is male dominated because of that. Not because women are disrespected, it's just that more men are comfortable with the brute force concept. ( Wife's a doctor, ER)

I'd say it's less bc men are more comfortable with it, and more because the harsh reality is, men are generally stronger than women. It's not sexist, it's just the fact.

PAs do all the hard / dirty work...and they're mostly women. It's the same to husbands whining at home, when their wives keep everything running.

It could be the ankle was broken and healed incorrectly or a deformity was caused by some kind of disease. The surgeon would have to break the bone to fix the damage.

Not strong enough? My girlfriend once held me in a headlock till I begged for her to let go. I kind of deserved it for watching the last part of 'Crisis on Earth X' without her, though. I felt bad for days :(

As a new construction painter, I only ran into one female painter. She was better at spray painting than most men and it takes lots of strength. Did I harass her? No, my wife would have cut my 'hair' off.

It isn't always the men. I was standing at a yardage counter with several other women. A man walked in behind us. The female clerk looked right over our heads and asked how she could help him. Nice to feel invisible.

You have to be careful. I was working at Chase when they hired on a guy I had worked with previously. He was let go from his former job for pulling a chef's knife out of his briefcase and coming at someone. I went to HR. But because there was no absolute proof, they told me I couldn't warn people. I could get fired for that. I left an anonymous note in his bosses mailbox. Risked my job to warn him, but it seemed like a good risk / reward at the time.

I was in school in 7th grade and this (a*****e, sexist, etc) guy repeated the same thing that my (female) friend said, and the teacher said what a great idea it was. I raised my hand and said "Cristina actually said that first." The teacher told me to not disrespect her classroom.

I can tell you having been a young pretty manager, people (Middle aged men) gave me a hard time, but you learn how to rise above it.

A male coworker called me bossy.. I told him he wouldn't call me bossy if I had a penis. That made the boys in the room super uncomfortable and I basked in that discomfort.

You should have done as he asked and let him talk to a man who could not schedule an appointment.
