Some coworkers are just God sent. You make best friends, you fall in love, you meet your idols, you find your team players to climb up that long career ladder with. They make your lunch breaks less lonely, meetings funnier and deadlines… well, the deadlines are the same no matter what.

But sometimes your coworkers are just the opposite. They make doing your job harder than it already is, and everything in between way less enjoyable. If you are dealing with a coworker like that, let me tell you, you are not the only one. There are millions of people out there handling the most annoying, irrational, or even plain evil colleagues because… well, because it's what you’re supposed to do, right?

So if you're too tired to deal with this on your own, this post compiled by Bored Panda is a safe place to vent and talk about hard things. Pull your seat closer and scroll through the stories about coworkers from hell by sharing your own experiences in the comments below!

And when you're done, more stories about difficult coworkers await in our previous features here and here.

Bored Panda spoke with Christine Mitterbauer, a licensed and ICF-approved career coach and serial entrepreneur who shared some great insights on dealing with difficult coworkers. So pull your seat closer.

Mitterbauer said that “it’s important that you stand your ground and don’t let yourself be intimidated by difficult coworkers, whether they’re negative, talking down to you, or making your work difficult in any other way.”

“Of course, you can try to interact as little as possible with the coworker, but that isn’t always possible,” the career coach added. Moreover, a great skill to practice is becoming better at having difficult conversations, she said.

My Coworker Lied To My Boss That I Could Cover His Shift

apollogamez60 Report

When dealing with difficult coworkers, always focus on the behavior you would like to address and which is bothering you, and never go down the road of stating negative traits or characteristics about that person, Mitterbauer argues.

“Stick to negative behavior as that’s more objective and can more easily be verified by everyone involved. Practice exactly what you want to say beforehand, and consider getting other allies on board as well. Sometimes it is necessary to involve management, but it’s often better to only do this once you can demonstrate to the manager what you yourself have attempted to tackle the issue,” she explained.

Thunder_SdSh Report

Most people have had coworkers they don’t get along with, Mitterbauer continues, but she says there’s a difference between not being great friends and them making your working life miserable. “When their behavior starts affecting your work and/or you are thinking about this issue in your free time, possibly dreading going to work the next day, that’s when it becomes an issue.”

Worked with a guy (VP) who had soup in a large coffee cup almost every day for lunch. Then he'd just sit the cup in the sink for one of the women to clean - despite the huge sign over the sink that said "Neither your mother nor your wife work here, clean up after yourself". We kept putting it back on his desk. He'd get a fresh cup and then leave BOTH of them in the sink. We all agreed that no one would touch them. At the end of the week there were 5 cups, one of which was starting to mold. The company President sees this and goes ballistic. I happened to be closest, so I just said, "Maybe you could have a word with Brad and explain to him that none of us are part of the cleaning staff". Watching that misogynistic pr*ck having to wash his own dishes was pure pleasure.

Looks like the toilet in the Teachers’ Lounge where I used to work. The ‘Lounge’ was actually a cluttered supply closet with a filthy toilet inside. No cleaning supplies and you’d get written up if you dared to be proactive and buy your own cleaning supplies. The bathroom the owner and director used was spotless and decorated nicely and stocked with cleaning supplies. They are sisters and any of their family members can use their restroom but not the staff.

When I worked at Starbucks, customers could nuse they're own coffee mug/ thermos. Didn't have to be Starbucks brand. This lady handed me her mug and I could smell she never washed it before I even looked at it. It was covered in nasty sludge. She said "oh don't worry, I dont I only use non dairy creamer"... apparently that lady thought that only dairy creamers can spoil and rot and gather bacteria?? Like what the actual heck. Anyway and cleaned and sanitized that mug before I put any coffee in there, I'm not gonna let someone give themselves food poisoning.

As health care personell, with education on how bacteria and viruses work... No. No it's not. It's not sanitary. And the outside is also not cleaned, where the lips and hands go. Just imagine the fecal residue and such. However I'd guess that peson doesn't det sick often due to being exposed regularily to germs. Just don't ever touch that mug or where it's sat for yourself.

Actually this mug is OK. If you just rinse a tea mug and let it dry, there will be this kind of stains. Completely harmless. (do NOT use steel wool to clean it - that only works for the moment, and then the stains are back worse than before)

Do NOT wash it for them...or you...they have become accustomed to coffee tasting like this and if cleaned they won't enjoy coffee for at least a year. I know it's revolting but imagine if someone took your coffee from you for a year.
