One of the benefits of having a kid is you get to name them. That way, you can honor your grandad, pay your respects to the artist who has inspired you, or... show the world you're a bit weird.

A month ago, Reddit user Hasden2007 asked other users on the platform, "What is the worst name you could give a child?" Turns out, there's no shortage of those.

So far, the post has received over 4.7K replies. From Strawberry Rain to Chastity, here are some of the most upvoted ones.

Becca will probably grow up to be a villain with a dark background story.

My mom's name on her birth certificate was "Baby Girl Johnson." It was supposed to be a placeholder until her parents decided. Fast forward 40 years and she has her wallet and passport stolen in another country. It turns out that her birth certificate was somehow never changed & she had to go through the whole process to change her name and prove her identity. I still call her "Baby Girl" from time to time.

In Austria, when a child has not been named by the parents for 4 weeks, the kid is named by the president (by, not after!). I know this because a friend and his wife couldn't agree on a name and came very close to it. They eventually settled for Emma, though.

Until I was officially adopted my legal first name was "infant female" though I had an alias fist name with the foster agency.

My grandmother technically has no name. Born in the 30's, she was a home birth with her grandma delivering her and her parents had yet to pick a name. The birth certificate needed to be taken to the hospital so it just reads "baby girl". You wouldn't believe how difficult it was for her to get a passport. The desk lady actually asked my 74 year old grandmother if there was anyone who had been present at her birth who could vouch for her identity. Her reply was, "I'm 74 years old!"

It's not a Neil Gaiman novel, somebody had to bother to legally name him "Unknown Baby Boy", they might've as well gone with "Bob". No, I'm thinking pretencious parents are more likely.

That's illegal in Spain. Children who are left at the hospital, for example, are given a random name and last name. My husband's adopted and we have the hospital papers with the name the nurses gave him (which his parents changed).

I knew an "Infant". The mother took too long figuring out a name so the hospital just put "Infant" [Last name]. Poor girl was in HIGH SCHOOL when I met her.

From what I have seen, this usually happens when the biological parent plans to give the baby for adoption and does not want to make a bond with the baby. Giving an actual name to the baby can make it more difficult for them, and it also allows the adoptive parents to choose the name themselves. Ideally, the name should be changed soon after birth, but that does not always happen...

back in old times some cultures didn't name their kids until they reached a certain age....because children mortality was so high. som they had survive a few years before they got their name

Unconfirmed family history says my father received his draft notice for WWII as, "Boy Baby (last name)". Then Dad went to register the name he wanted, not the one his parents wanted. Think Bill rather than William.

Some will give the child intials and let them choose. One case was R. B. Jones. Of course the service gave him a bad time because they like 'full names'. Story goes that he wrote R (only) B (only) Jones and got a check made out to Ronly Bonly Jones.

In certain parts of India, male children are so preferred that girls are, literally, named "Unwanted" in the local dialect/language. Several years ago, it became legal to change your own name, specifically for these cases, at particular locations. HUNDREDS of women showed up to change their names!

That was the poor girl who caused an incident at an airport, because the employees could not believe this was her actual name. They laughed at the name and the mother shamed them for laughing at her poor child, when in truth in was her fault for giving her child a ridiculous name like that.
