40 Terrible Potential Buyers That Perfectly Illustrate Why Selling Online Can Be Such A Pain (New Pics)
InterviewSelling something doesn’t seem that hard. You take your item, list a price that works for you and see who is interested. Maybe you adjust the price to fit the market better. Perhaps someone tries to haggle, after all, in some countries that is always expected. Then you see demands that you give it for free. Or a trade offer for a broken, used car that is less than a third of the value of your item. 75$ for a 250$ smartphone.
If any of these examples confused you, you aren’t alone. Internet users gather examples of bizarre market demands in the choosing beggar subreddit. So scroll down and upvote the most unhinged examples you find and check Bored Panda’s other collection of annoying Buyers here.

While the examples here are quite ridiculous, we can try to give some hagglers the benefit of the doubt. After all, in a lot of cultures, one haggles over everything, from a simple cup to a hotel room. In parts of Southeast Asia, it is not recommended to haggle over meals, however. Ingredients at a market are fair game, but a full meal is often seen as a necessity and should not be treated as a commodity.
The word haggle is often associated with the image of one-on-one bargaining with a salesperson in an open-air market, but in reality, every large business is haggling constantly. They just use the word “negotiations” to make it seem more arcane. A rule of thumb is that if a salesperson is involved, there is wiggle room for the price. But the salesperson also has an interest in getting the price up, so you may not come out ahead.

Often, bargaining is less tied to culture, but to the distance between owner and buyer. A simple store clerk is not going to haggle much with a customer, as they would not be paid a commission on the sale and the owner is unlikely to give them such power in the first place. That being said, in some areas, stores are blending the two, by authorizing certain clerks to act as salespeople, within specific price limits.

Haggling might benefit its most skilled practitioners individually, but studies show that if it becomes the norm, prices tend to rise. After all, large businesses can employ economies of scale to reduce costs and compete by using a lower price than a competitor. A smaller shopkeeper is unlikely to purchase enough merchandise to get significant savings based on sales volume.

Economies of scale drive bulk purchasing, where the seller is willing to go down on the per-unit cost in exchange for a larger order. Since the seller's margin is rarely just higher than the cost, they can use this flexibility to still make a profit. Wholesale retailers like Costco use this to offer great prices to their customers. Other major retailers have tried to copy its success with their own variants, for example, Walmart’s Sam's Club. While we as consumers can’t really haggle with a Walmart clerk, we still benefit from their competition forcing the price down.

We also reached out to the moderators behind the Choosing Beggars subreddit to ask a few questions. We wanted to know where they would draw the line between real haggling and just being a nuisance. "It's circumstantial, there's no perfect answer. Generally, an inappropriate spread between the request's value versus the beggar's offer would be the sort of 30,000-foot response." Regarding why a person might act like this, they mentioned that:"It could range from a person simply being inexperienced in seeing what qualifies as a fair exchange, other times it could be some type of vent for an unrelated stressful event in their lives."
Jedi Skills Need Improvement
Oi dummy, it's "what is the lowest price that you can do" and even that isn't a good negotiating tactic and certainly shouldn't be your opening question. WTF is it with this "last price" nonsense, it's not proper English, these people need to learn to talk/write properly and be respectful and then they'd have much greater success.
“Influencer” Tries To Make A Deal With Me For $2,800 Computer
I read another similar post somewhere by a business owner who always makes the same offer to influencers who want a freebie: pay for the product & he'll give the influencer a percentage refund for every subsequent purchase by one of their followers. Unsurprisingly, no-one had ever taken up his offer at that time
Choosing Beggar Wants A Fish Tank (With Everything Included) For Free
I'm not convinced by the person using autism and death to get free stuff. It may be true, but you don't use them for discount. That's emotional blackmail, a form of psychological abuse.
Load More Replies...But he has AUTISM, it's Christmas AND his birthday AND his grandma DIED. Did I mention he has AUTISM? My kid has AUTISM in case you don't know! ALL of this is YOUR responsibility to deal with and pay for! smh, the nerve of some people.
Did I heard it right ? Your son has AUTISM !? Take my money !
Load More Replies...We've all got sob stories, but we all don't try and use them when it suits. Pride may be one of the deadly sins, but i'd rather have it than none at all.
Like, seriously. Just cos someone is selling something doesn't make them a millionaire!!
Why does everybody seem to think that everybody else should financially support their individual dilemmas? This go-fund-me era is getting out-of-control!
how dare she use an autistic boy to get free stuff. I hate this.
In the Autistic community, the vast majority of us prefer to be referred to as Autistic people, not people with Autism. The fact that the mother is saying her child has 'autism' rather than her child is Autistic suggests she really doesn't understand how to help them. There is SO much misinformation about Autism and parents get it dangerously wrong all the d*mn time if they are not actively engaging with the Autistic community and taking their lead. Poor kid. Also, I would've been f*cking humiliated if my parent had tried something like this, just because I am Autistic (and physically disabled).

Learned not to give anything away - always ask for a minimal amount. So many no-shows when you offer something for free.
And putting something up for free attracts too many weirdos who seem to be searching the boards for free s**t. Who then indeed aren't the most reliable, or be like "can you throw in some other stuff too?" Nah I'll just ask for like 5 euros or something.
Load More Replies...this is the reason why i dont sell anything online. Rather give it to the thriftshop.

Agreed. You're a lot politer than me though, I'd have just invited them to f**k off right there and then.
Load More Replies...Saw a post on fb. Mother of 3 asking for a safe car for her and her kids. That's fine. Nothing over $3000. Alas the car had to be black, not a van or ugly people mover has at least 7 seats, good on gas, delivered to her and nothing older than a 2018, and a Jeep or Range Rover was more preferred brand, the vehicle had to have a full tank of gas when delivered to her, cause she was poor you know. This was in 2020. A 2 year old car for $3000. Needless to say she didn't get offers.
I don't think there is anything wrong with asking about delivery if it is not mentioned in post, but expecting it, and expecting it for free is ridiculous.
No matter how low the price, someone will still try to get it cheaper.
I had a "terribly potential buyer/offer" just this week... A guy send me a private message on Instagram if I was interested to be his sugar baby, he'd pay $4000 allowance 🤣🤣🤣 As if I'm that cheap 😜 I send him a bunch of laughing emojis and then put his face plus message on my timeline.. I showed it to my hubby and we both had a good laugh 😁

As a small online seller, I also fed up with these bunch of selfish idiots petty liars.. there is a kid went up to me saying I should lower my price because its too expensive. Then on the next day, she proceed buy my product and force me to be online for 24 hours. FYI, it was on Saturday...ITS THE FRICKIN WEEKEND. Then I already told her to meet up on Sunday since I am busy. She said okay then after few minutes, she claimed herself to have anxiety and depressions and forced me to meet at that time. 😮💨 2nd fussy buyers. There is a boy wants me to build their house in an online game. I don't remember some details and in the end he said he doesn't trust me and I could be a scammer. Bla bla bla.. then he block me. I was confused as fk. 😮💨 3rd situation. A buyer interested to buy a product from me. Then I straightforward give my bank details then they ghosted me. 💀💀💀 this situations happened a lot to me.. 😑
