Jerameel Lu, a talented pencil artist, posted this image to criticize the media’s response to the tragic attacks that happened this weekend in Paris. As he writes on his Facebook page, “this piece is only against the almost unequal treatment of the world media on every terrorism act.” On Thursday, Beirut was also hit with double suicide bombings, and many perceive that the media was not nearly as responsive to these events as it was to those in France. I don't exactly agree, I'm sorry, but the things that have been happening in the rest of the world have been happening for a long time....however, thats not to say that means they don't matter. What happened in Paris was something very unexpected, which is understandable why we are so focused on it. Don't get me wrong, I don't think there is enough coverage of what IS happening elsewhere, but why are we having a go at the people trying to make sense of the shock and horror of what happened in Paris?
I agree with this. Also I'd add that what media needs is a story, a scoop. They hunt for unusual things to show you, to make their program more interesting, and they don't wanna have always the same news. This is why they don't cover as much of the long lasting war countries. But my personal opinion is indeed we should have more coverage, so we can have more transparency on what the leaders are actually doing, because nowadays we're all interconnected.

I strongly agreed with that picture. Why? because if we are human , we should feel sorry for any person dying in any place in the world no matter how what when or where. I am sorry and feeling sad for what happened in Paris, however, I sorry and sad for what happened in any other places in the world, as well. For example, 6240 DEATH CERTIFICATES issued to families of civilians killed in Yemen by airstrikes in 8 months of Saudi aggression. Don't forget that those 8 months start just by one day.
There's some truth in this. We're holding a minute silence for Paris, but not for Beirut one day earlier. But the reason why is not that difficult to understand. (1) We are numbed down by the number of incidents in the Middle East. (2) Paris is much closer to home for us. At least admitting this is a little less cynical than stating that we don't give a s**t about what happens to people in the Middle East. We do. But they've been having a massive problem all the time for at least the last 65 years. At a certain point, seeing screaming, bloody people on the street in Palestine or Syria simply doesn't come across as news anymore. People getting killed attending a concert for a band you know in a city you know does. It would be same if, and I hope not, there are new attacks in India. Of course people in India would care more for that than for Paris.
Actually, the problems started in 2003 when the US started bombing Iraq/Afgan.. I used to go to the ME every summer.. It's sad what the Western powers have done to it

Hmm I believe the Cartoon is also speaking to the Idea that the bom hitting Paris came out of this the mess in Syria in part Created by us (or the leaders that should be representing us). We, The west, Are bombing the s**t out of those people, and have been for a while now. Research the american drones Strike on weddings etc. This is what creates terrorist! To me this drawing spreaks to this aswell. We need to make our leaders and our media acountable to us, let them know we value life, Also muslim life. If we allow them to feed this war in the middle east, then we must not be surprised from time to time there's gonna be a bomb deflected our way.

i think he is right media don't cover about the war and thousands of people killed in the war that united states started, i watch the news in Spanish and in Japanese in japan was cover at the begging in the Latin media still is being cover, news in united states are not even mention anything they dint even mention the attack of Egypt on those Mexican tourist , so yes american media is controlled or i have a feeling that they just choose what is a convenience to show, there is 2 sides of a story and when that charlie massacre happened i learn about how bad things were in paris and how both sides escalated this bad situation i don't agree with a country forcing muslim women to not wear their headpieces , no country should mandate over someone religion , in the other hand what the terrorist did is really wrong but to me media is like saying nobody cares if a Muslim kid drowns in the ocean because he was Muslim, but yet you see candles and flowers for the Paris victims.

Falun Gong, a meditation practice that promotes Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance, has been illegal in China for 16 years and its practitioners put in jail, forced labor camps and tortured, brain-washed and even KILLED FOR THEIR ORGANS, all these run by the communist party in power. And we are talking about millions of people here. Moreover, China is home for 20% of the world's population and all these people are being denied the right to believe in the power of good and virtue. Just to point out, is in East Africa and Kenya we are NOT a war ridden country. However we have suffered several terrorist attacks from Al- Shaaba ( a syndicate of Al Qaueda) on several occasions. Although there was coverage of a mall siege (where several hostages were taken)in 2011 on western media, it was not to the level of the Paris attacks. We didn't feel the same amount of love and support that has been shown for the people of France, it was just another story being reported. I agree with the artist, even though some of these countries have been at war for years, the deaths of innocent people should always be mourned no matter where they are from.
Oh but you can hardly not agree with this. Last weekend showed us that as long as it happens 'further' away, its easy for western europeans to not take even take it into account. If it happens a continent away then "who cares" right? (im just illustrating the thought). Its ridiculous that so many other tragedies happen with little to no coverage. Take Ukraine for example, its almost disappeared from western press/media. EU reluctance to accept Syrian and other refugees only goes to show how little self conscious they are on a global scale and how protective they are of their own little "safe"-world. As long as it goes "boom" in the Middle East they'll just chalk it up to "business as usual", but as soon as it happens in their backyard, then they are faced with the reality that they might be in danger, and only then do people (en-masse) suddenly start "ahh"-ing and "ooh"-ing. Why is France the only (country) flag people have superimposed on their pictures?
