Canadian Guy Shares The Working From Home Guidelines He Received In His E-Mail And The Rest Of The World Is Jealous Now
Nearly 58% of the US began working from home in recent weeks. It means that more than half of white-collar Americans are currently trying to make sense of how private life, work, and crisis can work under one roof. Meanwhile, Canadians are making sure to eliminate the stress of working from home altogether.
The email Mark Richardson received from his job at the Canadian Federal Government sets out some of the most reassuring remote work principles you could think of. The Ottawa-based man shared the guidelines, which are said to have originated with Parks Canada, on his Twitter account. The tweet soon went viral with 45.4K likes and 12.9K retweets. And honestly, we all knew it all along—just how impossibly nice Canadians can be.
Amazed Mark shared what could possibly be the nicest email you could get from an employer

A survey run by Statistics Canada on March 22 showed that 4.7 million Canadians who don’t normally work from home have started to in response to the pandemic. After the agency added all the people who normally do work from home for video classes and meetings, the number swelled to 6.8 million people. This makes up nearly 40% of Canada’s total workforce, CTV News reports.
Vancouver-based polling agency Research Co. reported that 73% of surveyed Canadians believe that the remote working trend will continue after the crisis ends. The same survey showed that 46% found it difficult working from home because of distractions, but 65% said they would be happy to continue doing it.

I also work for the Canadian federal government and so does my boyfriend and this is true. We have weekly meetings and emails to check up on our mental health. We have the employee assistance program to help (with psychologist, lawyers etc). Stats are no longer calculated the same, and it's clear to us that we do what we can with what we have. It helps a lot to relax and deal with being at home all the time and not seeing anyone.
I am Canadian and my employer is not like this, but that’s probably because it’s an American company, and they are handling this pandemic like a joke down there
Maybe you're right, but they'd still have to follow the rules set by the government. However, I guess it's more a matter of government worker vs. company worker. Different rules apply, regardless of the country.
Load More Replies...Isn't it interesting how everyone degrees but not everyone who could puts such rules unto order?
IAM Canadian!! And I Love it! Now I have to go feed my sled dogs and hunt a moose ..after I patch up my igloo.
Do you need maple syrup to patch your igloo? Because I can send you some 🇨🇦
Load More Replies...My company said something similar to this, shortly before calling everyone into a large group meeting to discuss how we shouldn't be in large groups...
Meh, I'm not jealous. I'm working from home, my company sent me masks for free, allows me to have phone-sessions with psychologist for free (don't need it and don't use it but it's nice of them) and forbids me to come back to the office, at least for now. Plus one of my tasks is to play a game he whole world is waiting for. Can't complain.
Canadian here: government workers DID THEIR VERY LEAST pre pandemic, doubt they're stressing now. Before everyone barks at me I'm not saying all, only in some sectors do they DO THEIR VERY LEAST, all the time, and are very well compensated and get the greatest benefits. So, no sympathy here.
I'm a Safety / HR Manager in the Canadian Health Care System right now and the message I'm receiving every day is that I'm expected to be an indestructible robot, come into the office every day (7 days a week including when I'm sick), and my job is to put the irrational fear and panic of all other staff members above my own mental health (read: burn out), and if I show any signs of having any cracks in my mental health I'm weak, and my overall managerial abilities are questioned. Life is not all roses and sunshine here in Canada
In my workplace in the US, part of my dept, myself included was not allowed to work from home. We were told that IT would not allow us we to take our computers home. Meanwhile, most of upper management and all of IT are at home with their workstations.
Honestly, my daughter's school has taken the same approach. Mind you, she's in 2nd grade, but it's still nice that they're not putting any kind of pressure on her or I to continue the type of learning she would normally be doing in school.
I love this. I am lucky enough to work for a great company that is encouraging us to take care of ourselves and our families, has opened up a whole bunch of resources for us, and my direct manager sent everyone on the team "self-care" packages of coffee, tea, cookies, a fancy mug, a book of puzzles, a joke book, and other goodies. We are also being encouraged to take PTO if we need it even though we aren't going anywhere.
My employer has been pretty fantastic throughout this whole s**t show. Starting working from home on March 16. They have been completely flexible, and continue to make sure that out mental well being is good as we. I switched job in December, 2019, so I have not been here very long. My prior employer has fired people and layed people off. If I had stayed I am sure I would have been one of those.
can we just like, ebolish all other governments and become one great canadian world? cuz like are there really any faults in the canadeon way of life? bacon, health care, great nebieghbers, great government.
I don't care whether my kids become artists, doctors or bankers when they grow up --- but I do hope they'll become Canadians! Smart & caring & clear-headed.
