Like this pencil vase shows, despite the long history of their craft, woodworkers still come up with new interesting designs. The Netherlands-based artist Thomas Anton Geurts has created a tumbling bowl from walnut, cherry, and hard maple. The three materials contrast with each other perfectly, allowing Geurts to create a trippy looking 3D arrangement. “I put a little bit of my soul in each piece,” the woodworker said, and you can clearly see it. His attention to detail from cutting the wood to applying the finishing layers of oil makes this bowl a perfect centerpiece for any room or kitchen.

Why didn't he use shorter blanks for the center of the bowl? That would have saved a substantial amount of material.
You could have, but the gluing/clamping process may not work as well, and when he uses the lathe, imperfections could come out. KISS
