Even Though Brodie Got His Face Disfigured As A Puppy By His Mother, Today He’s About To Become A Therapy Dog

Brodie is not a dog you meet every day. Having survived an attack by his own mother at the fragile age of 13 days, the pup was left partially blind and with a permanently disfigured face. Looking a bit like a Picasso masterpiece, Brodie is all the more adorable, making everyone’s hearts melt with his big heart and strong spirit.

Luckily, the German shepherd and border collie mix is now in safe hands with his new forever family, Amanda Richter and her boyfriend Brad Ames. Not only is Brodie loved by virtually anyone he comes by, including his own 159K Instagram followers, the pup is now training to become a therapy dog. “We hope to train him to be a therapy dog one day so he can help other people with disabilities,” said Amanda, who assured Brodie’s fans that he is happy as ever.

Brodie suffered severe cranial and facial injuries after being attacked by his mother as a baby. As he grew, the boy’s jaw fused together, leaving his face stunted and causing partial blindness.

Initially, it seemed like the boy had found his forever family after his first adoption. But soon, his previous owner decided to return the pup to Old MacDonald Kennels in Alberta, Canada, saying that he was “too hyper.”

Luckily, Brodie found a new forever family who couldn’t care less about his wonky features and believe he was meant for them

Brodie’s story struck many hearts, but his new forever family Amanda Richter, 30, and boyfriend Brad Ames, 23, were particularly touched.

After spotting the pup online, they fell in love in an instant. They traveled to the shelter and picked him up on the same day, and since then, they’ve been inseparable.

“He’s definitely hyper, but he is so intelligent. His brain is perfectly fine and he learns tricks within 10 minutes, usually, which tells me he is a smart boy,” Amanda told Metro.

And this adorable pup is now being trained as a therapy dog so he can help anyone living with a disability

Before becoming part of his forever family, Brodie was once adopted by a person who gave him back due to the pup’s endless energy

His mom is now helping him train to be a therapy dog and help others with disabilities and visible differences. “He just needed patience and someone to be consistent,” Amanda said, but added that Brodie is really talented and gets better every week.

This made me tear up, which is rare. Because this dog is perfect for his job. Because the most useful person to help is the person who has been there. And that is also me. So instead of being ashamed of your scars, disfigurements, and tragedies, know that they are credentials for the most important job on earth.

That was my first thought! Border collie mixed with anything will be hyper, but with a German Shepherd, wow. Both breeds have to be busy busy busy and well-trained. It helps that both breeds are super smart. If you take some time to train them and give them things to do, you'll have a wonderful dog like Brody.

At first you want to say “poor baby” BUT I know he doesn’t feel sorry for himself so neither are we. We are gonna support him to be the best therapy dog ever cuz imagine the impact he could have on folks with disfigurements and other issues when they see that he doesn’t care how he looks and that he lives his best life ever, and so can they. I find no better therapy than that!!

As another comment said, it could be because of postpartum depression. It has been proved in many studies, including that of lab rats! Hope this answers your question. :)
