Not everyone is blindly following the latest fashion trend. Some people are focused on developing their own personal style, and want to invest in clothes that they genuinely love regardless of how popular they are.

But the industry still thinks it knows best and often prioritizes redundant items and designs while the truly needed ones remain limited and hard, if not impossible, to find.

So Reddit user Rachel_BA1 recently asked women to share what pieces of clothing they absolutely hate and why. Many agreed to share their thoughts and the comment section quickly proved that stores need to take a good look at their shelves.

Women Are Sharing The Most Irritating Things About Their Clothing, Here Are 35 Of The Worst Sports apparel that turns pink in the women’s section. My alma mater’s colors are gold and black, why would I want a pink shirt?

The assumption that I want anything to be pink simply because I’m female really gets to me. I feel like we are slowly moving beyond it, but for so long every sports team I’ve supported has been like, “oh, you’re a lady? You must want a pink baby doll tee with a too small logo dead center on your tits.”

Plus size clothes that are just larger cuts of the exact same pattern for smaller clothes, so if a shirt is 1" wider then it's also somehow 1" longer. How many adults grow taller as they grow fatter? It completely changes the look of the item.

Imagine if they took plus size clothes built for bigger bodies, bigger bellies and boobs and then just sized them down for smaller sizes. The fit would be ridiculous. I feel like fat people deserve to have well fitting clothes like smaller people do.

To answer the question of their existence. Shoes with heels were first used by horse riding peoples because they provide a better stand in the stirrups. If you look at the whole history, they were a integral part of mens fashion before women adopted them. So ladies, if somebody points out your lack of heels, you can ask them if you look like you plan on going to war on horseback.

Shoes for women are literally the worst. Almost universally, they're designed to look good rather than to support your body. And I think most people don't get how damaging that is because it's so normalized. Shoes are what go between you and the ground! That's what absorbs the shock of your bodyweight slamming into the ground over and over again every day!

And, like, no one makes shoes for fat people. Women's shoes are so slim and dainty compared to men's shoes! Not just like, the length and the size, but men's shoes are clunkier and more sturdily built, I'm assuming to support a larger size of person slamming into them.

But, like, what happens when you're just a fat chick and you've got 200 lbs slamming into those ballet flats over and over?

Heel spurs. The answer is heel spurs.

This - this right here is why I abhor shoes. I have thick wide feet. I have to have wide width shoes and I have to go up half a size on top of that. Women's shoes? IF I can find it in wide width and IF I can find it in half sizes. Find it in both is like finding the holy grail. I usually wear men's shoes because its easier to find in both. Even my work shoes are buy menswear on. Lets not even talk Sandals.

As a kid, I used to go w/ my dad to scout all the shoe outlets in New England. He had 11AA. I had 7WW. Now I have 10EEE, I think. I mean, I can't find shoes that fit every part of my foot. I'm lucky my feet are still happily trucking along, but I've learned that if wide enough, I have at least 1/4 or a 1/2 inch in front of me. Without a strap across my high arches, I step right out of most shoes. Forget buying shoes off the internet. I know they're lying when they say, oh these are for wide feet. NOT EVEN CLOSE. Wierdly, after I got bunion surgery, I could wear some high heels. It was a fun by product of the surgery as I certainly didn't get it done for that reason. That would be, well, stupid. I would spend money on nice shoes, if they were well, fitting and you know, nice. But it's clear most companies don't care. Oh and FYI, my mom was 7 1/2 B. She always said, I must be from the faerie folks. But I'm pretty sure no fairy feet are this size!

Fortunately fashion now allows women to wear what we used to call "ugly" shoes. Those old granny shoes my nanny used to wear? Now in top fashion. Doc Martin's - height of fashion. Once you could NEVER wear a dress with any of these shoes. Now? You can wear a fancy dress with sneakers and it seems to be fashionable. LOL!

Another fat chick here! Crocs! The answer is Crocs! They are like little miracles for your feet! I have expensive diabetic shoes with custom orthotics but I can't walk in them, but getting Crocs was like getting new feet! Two tips: 1) buy real Crocs ( disclaimer: not getting paid for this review, do not work for or sell Crocs lol), the knockoffs aren't comfortable. 2) if regular Crocs don't fit you, look into Crocs specifically made for diabetics. They come in three fits, regular, medium and loose, and they have taller toe boxes.

Try a pair of cowboy boots. Not cheap. Ariat, Dingo, Durango, etc. Real leather. Step in puddles of rain or wet them down in the shower. They stretch to fit your foot perfectly. Add a pair of real sheep skin insoles for winter. I have had massive bunions on both feet for 40 years. I get a new pair of boots for my birthday. If I had skinny calves, I'd splurge on a pair of Old Gringos. Ankle boots, open boots, slouchy boots, zipper boots, I have a pair with fringe that drags the ground. Embroidered boots. The heel is 2 inches. Designed to keep your foot from sliding through a stirrup. People that ride horses are practical. If I forget I'm wearing a nice pair and end up in the barn, no problem. I just hose them off. A quality pair of western boots lasts 5-10 years before they are broke in enough to make them the official barn boots. So $200 to $300 is a bargain.

Those clunky men's shoes might be better than 'ballet flats', but they're not great either. They tend to be overly heavy and have hard soles with little to no cushion. I much prefer a featherweight running shoe with good support. This is one area where function trumps looks for me, every time. ETA: I'm a dude.

Only a man could have this ignorant of a response. It's not about the shoes it's about society's unrealistic expectations for women's apparel. Consumers choose what they buy but the female targeted market prioritizes appearance over comfort which makes the struggle all the more real.

I'm actually happy with ankle trousers because I'm short, they are normal length for me. It's so difficult to find nice trousers when you are short

Boho style dresses with the little boob cups, sized up for 12 and above without expanding the cups.

Seriously. Really hate the specified boob areas for most tops and dresses. Most I see even being a b cup might be too big to fit. And if you're a ddd amd buy your size and try to allocate your boobs in the area there's no way because not even nipple would be covered.

Most shoes, as they are too narrow.

Why oh why can't we have shoes with proper toe boxes? Even the tennis shoes are too narrow at the front. Are we not supposed to have toes?

Trousers with fabric so thin that it clings and highlights every lump.

Also not a specific item, but I hate it when I'm shopping for clothes and see something that looks great but then it turns out to be made of icky fabric that feels scratchy or would make you feel swampy and sweaty or is too thin to hang nicely.

Pants made of thin material also pill and wear through after being worn only a few times. As for icky material, how about ordering a designer name cotton jersey nightgown that smells like vomit, even after being washed repeatedly with highly scented detergent and scent crystals? Waste of money, as the smell is so foul and strong it makes me nauseous and I can’t sleep. Can’t even use them as rags, because they’d just be vomit-smelling rags.

Women Are Sharing The Most Irritating Things About Their Clothing, Here Are 35 Of The Worst Tights! I think Americans call them pantyhose. They are so annoying, especially if they’re too small and they started to twist around the crotch area lol

FYI tights and pantyhose are not the same, even in America. Tights are much thicker/ heavier and pantyhose are sheer. Both are awful at bunching in the crotch though and apparently just wearing thigh highs "looks slutty"

If they are the right fut and don't have anything that's itchy or poking me I love the support and security.

Cuz not everybody is cold all the time? Personally, I'm always too warm. Also, it's a style. Some people like it, others don't. Variety exists for good reasons.

Same with dresses with a waist. They always end up too high - like right under my boobs.

Women Are Sharing The Most Irritating Things About Their Clothing, Here Are 35 Of The Worst Strapless dresses/ tops. I'm flat chested, so those never stay up. If I go too long without tugging them up all the damn time, my nipples come out to say hello. It pains me whenever I see an otherwise cute dress/ top that I can't wear because they're strapless.

If the dress is worth the effort, it's actually very easy to add straps. If you can't sew, you can buy ready made straps (check wedding dress shops and suppliers).
