Not everyone is blindly following the latest fashion trend. Some people are focused on developing their own personal style, and want to invest in clothes that they genuinely love regardless of how popular they are.

But the industry still thinks it knows best and often prioritizes redundant items and designs while the truly needed ones remain limited and hard, if not impossible, to find.

So Reddit user Rachel_BA1 recently asked women to share what pieces of clothing they absolutely hate and why. Many agreed to share their thoughts and the comment section quickly proved that stores need to take a good look at their shelves.

Women Are Sharing The Most Irritating Things About Their Clothing, Here Are 35 Of The Worst Sports apparel that turns pink in the women’s section. My alma mater’s colors are gold and black, why would I want a pink shirt?

The assumption that I want anything to be pink simply because I’m female really gets to me. I feel like we are slowly moving beyond it, but for so long every sports team I’ve supported has been like, “oh, you’re a lady? You must want a pink baby doll tee with a too small logo dead center on your tits.”

Plus size clothes that are just larger cuts of the exact same pattern for smaller clothes, so if a shirt is 1" wider then it's also somehow 1" longer. How many adults grow taller as they grow fatter? It completely changes the look of the item.

Imagine if they took plus size clothes built for bigger bodies, bigger bellies and boobs and then just sized them down for smaller sizes. The fit would be ridiculous. I feel like fat people deserve to have well fitting clothes like smaller people do.

The most ridiculous thing were pants with low waist in plus size. I remember one year desperately needing new pants but couldn't find anything but. I'd rather go like Steve Urkel than having my belly sticking out all the time!

I find the same with petite clothing, I have shorter legs but that doesn't mean I want the body of the jeans so short they give me a wedgie on my vulva. I don't think women's clothing designers know what shape actual women are.

Hold on here, some of us want the flipping shirts to be LONGER and WIDER IN THE SHOULDERS and maybe, just maybe, the arms could be larger in diameter also. Like 1" wider, maybe 3" longer please. Most fat woman clothes, which I wear and have for decades, are for short fat woman, which I am not. I also would like smaller waists on pants that fit my legs, usually there is a 3-4" excess that I have to take in.

Longer shirts yes! I want to wear my stretchy leggings and then have a slightly baggy, longer shirt to come mid thigh. I want to HIDE the extra fluff, and I can't do that if I'm wearing something as wide as it is long. Looking at you, Walmart.

I'm fat so I can understand that frustration. But not everyone is shaped the same and with big people, it's harder to fit us short of having something tailored. I could stand next to another fat girl the same weight and height as me and it settles differently on her than it does me. Her butt is bigger, my boobs are bigger, etc. So they have to take the most popular measurement for mass production. But they shouldn't change the actual look of the item to fit a more 'appropriate' styling. If a fat girl wants to wear daisy dukes then that's her decision. It's not up to someone else to decide if it's appropriate or not by changing the length or design. I wish they'd just make the same clothes you see in regular stores in plus stores. The difference in styling is sooo ridiculous. In regular stores, colors are richer and deeper, less candy colored. The style is more modern. In plus size stores, it's leopard print shirts with rhinestones and lace. ugh.

I loved Avenue and Catherine's. Both shut down their actual stores and are on-line only. While I know both well enough to have some idea of how things will fit, it's just not the same. I do find things at Wal-Mart sometimes, but it's really hit and miss. And some of their stuff is the weirdest color combinations.

Total agree. But even more worst than the wider = longer thing is the up sizing of the neck hole. I have so many shirts/ blouses which need a t-shirt/ top underneath, because the hole is way to big. I'm fat, my neck is a little bit wider, but that doesn't mean it's a frigging Mammut three 😑

Why do so many plus size clothes have large prints, glitzy add ons, hold the sequins please, pleating, preset waistbands, large shoulders, longer lengths, UGH. Why do they offer so many sleeveless plus size dresses and tops? I'm too old for those and prefer my upper arms covered. I don't want skinny straps.

Well, I'm at the other end of that complaint: for fat me most tops are too effing short. I don't want my non-existant waistline on display, or even better, raise an arm and be crop topped. I'd LOVE my shirts at a length of 70+ cm instead of the 64 I get offered everywhere. Maybe thete's some slim people out there who would like longer shirts, too?

I need to find out where she's shopping. I actually haven't found many plus clothes that are larger versions of the smaller clothes. Tons of times I find a cute outfit and want it in my size, only to find the plus size clothes in the same store are completely different and much uglier. Just because I'm a bigger girl doesn't mean I want to wear some sack or tent that's all they could be bothered to come up with. I want the same cute clothes everyone else gets, just bigger and longer because I am bigger and taller.

To answer the question of their existence. Shoes with heels were first used by horse riding peoples because they provide a better stand in the stirrups. If you look at the whole history, they were a integral part of mens fashion before women adopted them. So ladies, if somebody points out your lack of heels, you can ask them if you look like you plan on going to war on horseback.

Shoes for women are literally the worst. Almost universally, they're designed to look good rather than to support your body. And I think most people don't get how damaging that is because it's so normalized. Shoes are what go between you and the ground! That's what absorbs the shock of your bodyweight slamming into the ground over and over again every day!

And, like, no one makes shoes for fat people. Women's shoes are so slim and dainty compared to men's shoes! Not just like, the length and the size, but men's shoes are clunkier and more sturdily built, I'm assuming to support a larger size of person slamming into them.

But, like, what happens when you're just a fat chick and you've got 200 lbs slamming into those ballet flats over and over?

Heel spurs. The answer is heel spurs.

Seriously. Really hate the specified boob areas for most tops and dresses. Most I see even being a b cup might be too big to fit. And if you're a ddd amd buy your size and try to allocate your boobs in the area there's no way because not even nipple would be covered.

Most shoes, as they are too narrow.

Why oh why can't we have shoes with proper toe boxes? Even the tennis shoes are too narrow at the front. Are we not supposed to have toes?

Trousers with fabric so thin that it clings and highlights every lump.

Also not a specific item, but I hate it when I'm shopping for clothes and see something that looks great but then it turns out to be made of icky fabric that feels scratchy or would make you feel swampy and sweaty or is too thin to hang nicely.

Pants made of thin material also pill and wear through after being worn only a few times. As for icky material, how about ordering a designer name cotton jersey nightgown that smells like vomit, even after being washed repeatedly with highly scented detergent and scent crystals? Waste of money, as the smell is so foul and strong it makes me nauseous and I can’t sleep. Can’t even use them as rags, because they’d just be vomit-smelling rags.

Women Are Sharing The Most Irritating Things About Their Clothing, Here Are 35 Of The Worst Tights! I think Americans call them pantyhose. They are so annoying, especially if they’re too small and they started to twist around the crotch area lol

FYI tights and pantyhose are not the same, even in America. Tights are much thicker/ heavier and pantyhose are sheer. Both are awful at bunching in the crotch though and apparently just wearing thigh highs "looks slutty"

If they are the right fut and don't have anything that's itchy or poking me I love the support and security.

Cuz not everybody is cold all the time? Personally, I'm always too warm. Also, it's a style. Some people like it, others don't. Variety exists for good reasons.

Same with dresses with a waist. They always end up too high - like right under my boobs.

Women Are Sharing The Most Irritating Things About Their Clothing, Here Are 35 Of The Worst Strapless dresses/ tops. I'm flat chested, so those never stay up. If I go too long without tugging them up all the damn time, my nipples come out to say hello. It pains me whenever I see an otherwise cute dress/ top that I can't wear because they're strapless.

If the dress is worth the effort, it's actually very easy to add straps. If you can't sew, you can buy ready made straps (check wedding dress shops and suppliers).
