It's a truly sad state of affairs when athletes are paid more money per season than most people see in a lifetime. The people saving and changing lives for the greater good should be getting that kind of money, not the footballers, etc.

Popularity pays, that's how modern society has created it. The frivolous, unnecessary luxuries in life are generally the most sought after - can't really blame the people who take advantage of this after realising they have a natural talent that the masses are eager to pay for the privilege of watching - I personally don't understand the prestige that actors, singers, althletes get like they're some kind of higher being than the rest of us minions. I appreciate talent, but I'm not about to worship these people or fall over myself if I see one of them in the street.

The moment I saw this post, I knew BoredPanda has deteriorated in recent times. This woman’s name is Isabel Garcia Tejerina and she never made this claim. This has already been verified as fake by several fact checking sites back then in 2020. But it’s sad to see BoredPanda publish this fake post as a symbol of women awesomeness. Since when has Boredpanda become another meme sharing platform??

They just put money into their own company's research, but don't freely share results. Profits are purely for their own shareholders and investors pockets.

The athletes are paid by someone, and don't really have much say how much they earn other than improving on their performance and popularity. I'm not sure how money is syphoned in the sport federations and clubs, but that would be a better area to look at. I'm taking a wild guess that athletes wouldn't be paid much if it weren't for the fans paying to see games, and all those sweet, major brand sponsorships. Perhaps brand companies could start sponsoring researchers. Or would that run a risk of conflict of interest and more conspiracies being generated? I don't think there's an easy answer to this.

She's right! I'd like to also add that there is no reason we all can't thrive. It's insane how we value money over human beings. Saying that this person or that person is worth more or more deserving of their needs being met. As if the football player is more worthy of having food, water, housing, education, and healthcare. Plus every material thing they could want. Like the cashier or scientist or doctor, or janitor doesn't deserve those things or have those needs. We all do! So just remember when you deny people money you are denying them the very thing they need to exist. We all live on this planet and can thrive. No one is more deserving of being treated humanly and decently. To hear some of y'all tell it, a teenager just starting out doesn't have the need or right to eat and take care of themselves. How can you possibly not see that we all have a right to those basic things that we literally have to have in order to live? There's plenty of what we all need to carry on. So the only reason I can think of to deny anyone these things is because you want folks to suffer and go without. And that is just wrong and not how it's supposed to be.

She’s wrong on this. It’s pretty easy to argue that what athletes and celebrities do is unimportant work, but the point is is that sports/TV/movies are A BUSINESS. The industries they work in generate tens of billions in revenue. They’re not athletes, they’re employees, and if they generate money for their employees, they’re entitled to their share of revenue. It’s literally what every other employed person does.

I don't think she's arguing about market forces for entertainment, I think it's the argument about how little governments prioritise research and things that are good for society until it's too late. Governments are prioritising footballers because corporate sponsorship and lobbying go hand in hand.

London-based comedy writer and multitalented creative Ariane shared with Bored Panda what she thinks are the main things that help lead a high-quality life, no matter what gender you might be.

“I think four things are essential for a full life: being true to yourself, being kind to yourself and others, having fun, and working hard to achieve your dreams,” she shared.

Bored Panda wanted to get Ariane’s opinion on why some women are still pressured to get married as soon as possible, even in the West, in the 21st century. “Maybe not as soon as possible, but certainly at some point,” she said.

“I felt the pressure so badly, I went and married the wrong guy and regretted it,” Ariane opened up to us.

She also offered a good comeback for when a woman gets asked why she’s not married yet. “I guess the comeback depends on the person asking, but try sighing and joking, ‘I guess I’m just not over your dad!’”

According to comedy writer Ariane, there are still many challenges that women face in this day and age, even in the West. She told us that “there’s still a lot of misogyny” and the sexual assault conviction rate is “shocking.”

“In the UK, only 7% of cases get to court and convictions are only 1.7% when it’s estimated that 95% of perpetrators are guilty. There’s definitely still a lot of work to do,” she said.

Writer and human rights advocate Elizabeth Arif-Fear previously explained to Bored Panda that women still face barriers to entry, sexist attitudes, and harassment because of their gender. This can occur in the workplace, as well as at home. For instance, there’s still the expectation that women ‘should’ be the ones to do the lion’s share of the housework, even if they work full-time jobs.

Unfortunately, I suspect the cameraperson holds more power than the young woman, amazing as she is. Without it being documented, I doubt very much that they would have "lined up" to arrest her, she wouldn't have even had time to open that booklet. Recording for posterity (aka evidence) is what made them hesitate.

“These attitudes go beyond chores. They are a symptom of sexism. In such a relationship, both partners are not equal. No woman should be expected to work two full-time jobs—one paid and one at home—while her able-bodied husband sits back and does nothing at home,” the expert said.

“Being financially dependent on a man is not a healthy or safe option. Spouses must be equal in opportunities and shared duties. As working patterns have shifted with the economy in the past decades, outdated sexist attitudes also need to shift. A women’s role is where she wants to be—just like a man’s.”

According to Elizabeth, it’s not a woman’s job to pick up or look after her male relatives. “If she chooses to stay at home as the family is financially able to manage on one wage, that must be the couple’s joint decision.
