Woman Posts Pics Of Her Wearing Different Pant Sizes To Show What’s Wrong With Fashion Industry
If you’re a woman you are familiar with the pants dance, that wriggling, jumping movement it sometimes takes to get everything in place. Well sometimes, much to our confusion, this doesn’t work. But I know my size! Did I gain weight? The pants I’m wearing now are the exact same size. Stop. Before going down the confusing rabbit hole of shoppers confusion again, you should read the following thread.
A Tumblr user posted three side by side pictures of herself wearing pants from different brands, taken on the same day. To the untrained eye, they all look pretty similar, however, as the user pointed out there is one glaring difference. Scroll down below to find out why you could be struggling in the dressing room, and if you are a man, why the women in your life take more time to shop.
Tumblr user leavethew0rldbehindyou posted this picture and it shows just how much the fashion industry messes with our heads
People agreed that the system was completely impractical
There used to be set rules and measurements for all sizes, that producers had to adhere to. That was lifted at some point and now they can assign sizes at will. That's why we now have clothes that are exactly the same size, yet labelled differently.
Or small clothes labeled as "XL". Oh my, can you imagine a bigger teen girl's feeling, who doesn't even need to be fat, who can't enter an XL size....
Load More Replies...Why aren't womens trousers labelled with actual measurements like blokes are?
Because women are suppose to feel terrible about themselves constantly.
Load More Replies...This also happens to men not just women. I cant even fit into a size 36 jean made by Levis but I can fit into a size 36 jean made my RSQ just fine.
Always did find it odd that women’s sizes don’t use measurements. Took me literally 2 minutes to buy jeans on Saturday. Chose the colour (dark blue) whilst riding down the escalator, walked over got to the 32inch waist column, down to the 34inch leg and off to the till…
*Labelled. Sorry I need to work on my on my grammar nazi tendencies
Load More Replies...I think part of it is psychological on the part of retail companies. They figure that a girl will return to the store where she fits the smallest size because it makes her feel better about herself. she likes to believe she is a size 8, - whereas she is a size 10 in the store next door and a size 12 across the street. Something might fit perfectly but she wont buy it because of the numbers on the label
All clothes everywhere in the world should be labelled according in centimeters. All pants should have a waist measurement and an inseam measurement. All tops should have a chest measurement and a length measurement, and so on. It would make life easier for everyone, because you would always know what would fit and what wouldn't, and could choose something tight or loose, long or short.
But that would mean govt. is trying to tell businesses how to operate. Can't have that, now can we?
Load More Replies...Did you know that men & children's shoes are sized on one scale and women's on another? I'm a 6-61/5 in children's & men's, but an 8 in women's. Does something happen to our feet after puberty that requires a new scale? And why isn't shoe width a published number? For clothing, given the amount of unisex-styling we have today, it would make economical sense just to move to a standard sizing system: waist & hem length for pants, and maybe shoulder, bust, waist/hip for shirts? You could display a range on the tag: "This garment should fit most people with 5-5.5" shoulder, 32-36" chest, 33"-36" hips" That's the three points of fit contact on a shirt, generally... Exact fits for tight clothing (eg dressshirts), range fit for looser things or fabrics with stretch (eg. knitwear)
I once tried on about thirty pairs of jeans trying to find some that fit. I'm not kidding. I bracketed in size from 7 to 14, aimed for lycra... NOTHING FIT. The waist gapped at the back so much I could fit my fist between my back and the jeans with room to spare, I couldn't get them on past the middle of my thighs (marked a 12), or I could get them on but they looked hideous- too tight in some places and waaaay too loose in others, or just seriously uncomfortable. I'm not even going to talk about the "pockets" and the very questionable sewing. My husband tried on four pairs of jeans, bought two of them. We went home, I figured what the hell, tried them on and THEY BOTH FIT FINE. Went back and bought two more pairs exactly like his. They fit, were well made and HAD REAL POCKETS.
Men's shoes are made by craftsmen who carefully consider the foot and its needs. Women's shoe are made at a Wednesday night craft session. Or so it sometimes seems.
Woman clothing sizes don't make sense. Next: the sky is blue. More at 11. (I got so used to it that I almost entirely stopped looking at the sizes and always try on before buying. I only look at the sizes when I need to find the exact same shirt, pants or something, only bigger or smaller. I think it depends on the producer or the label and which system they use; I don't know.)
Size 7 and size 9 are junior sizes. Junior sizes are usually smaller to fit a junior, so the 4 and the 7 make sense just not the 9 to the 7. If that makes sense. Lol
It does actually. I was thinking that the far right pair are obviously junior size.
Load More Replies...I cannot buy clothes online because of this issue. I have a smaller waist but boy do I have some chunky thighs and a butt. Pants are either too tight around the thigh or way too loose around my waist. It sucks and is so hard to find flattering pants. Also, us woman want/need pockets. I can't tell you how many times I've tried on a pair of pants, only to find that the pockets are fake. FAKE! Why the hell even cut out a spot for pockets if you aren't going to put any in the pants. WE WANT POCKETS, DEEP BEAUTIFUL POCKETS
Men's pants aren't as horrible but they vary in size as well. For jeans by wrangler relaxed fit I wear a 42. For Levi 559 (relaxed fit) I'm a 44. For dress pants from Kohls I'm a 48. Cargo shorts from Target I'm a 44. So yeah, I feel your pain, but I get pockets lol.
This is really annoying and happens constantly. For example Couple of weeks ago I bought some women's thermal underwear for the next winter. The size said it was XL. The real size was probably meant for very thin children. That is why I usually buy my clothes from the men's section.
They have even done it with footwear - I am now a whole size smaller than I was 35 years ago.
In footwear I usually have a size 39 or 40 - but sometimes I might even need to divert to 38 or 41. It's absolutely ridiculous!
Load More Replies...I agree with the last comment by CatzEyes93. This stuff is all BS. Why can’t there just be the good old rules for measurement sizes? Now all this c**p takes the joy out of shopping because it results in angry remarks & impatient behavior. Plus it puts stress on the wearer because society is so screwed up that people judge based on your body size and how those clothes don’t fit well. It’s because each store does things a little differently!!!!
I think that this is made for "buying to feel one size less" for some brands. I'm french and "comptoirs des cotonniers" make 2 sizes less, i have several pieces and all undersized; WHY? Maybe a brand that give you 2 sizes less is better? It's silly because i'm normal and i have to buy "anorexic sizes clothes". NOPE i'm not anorexic, and i wear 36 french, size 2 or 3 i guess for Uk and Us. WHY?
People come in all different shapes and propoetions. How would a single size reflect length, width, the appropriate size of "gaps" etc? Strictly speaking, this does not even work with shoes (people have very different breadth and heights:!
Japan's shoes are labelled by centimeter of one's foot. I have never had issue buying shoes from there
Load More Replies...I usually buy men's casual clothes, jeans, khakis and tees, because of fit, pockets and PRICE. I'd buy men's dress shirts as well except for the fact that the buttons are on the wrong side and there's no consideration for the boobies.
the clothing industry really messes with our heads, 20% of what i purchase is immediately thrown out, unused, or stored for not fitting (cant return immediately) another 30% would be clothing that stops fitting because it dried in the laundry and shrunk the other 50% is me holding onto my wallet and trying not to "treat myself" every year!
what's even worse same brand same style of jeans ... different colors... fit differently.
This is the reason I always keep a sewing measuring tape in my bag. Shopping for clothing used to be a pleasurable experience, nowadays it is a pain in the butt (excuse the pun).
This is all such b******t." Nothing fits me, boohoo, all the sizes are too small, everything is too small, wwaaahh" 1st of all, try the s**t on and if it doesn't fit-dont buy it! Sizes run different in different stores. 2ndly, WHERE ?! WHERE do you go where All the clothes are micro sizes?! Im a 0 and It offend me that I cant find my f*****g sizes ANYWHERE-all I can find are giant sizes and it makes me feel like society expects me to fill these massive clothes and i feel like I'm beneath or inferior to heavy girls because of this
everything is wrong in fashion industry starting fro desigers who are ready to sacrifice huan lives to get their creations to sale basket, they are most evil ones, then comes fabric industry, size of your pants is small business, why i should care when buy cheap s**t.
Okay people, pay attention here, this is called "vanity sizing". If you think you wear a particular size (that you like) in a particular brand, then you will be loyal to that brand. See how this works? The clothing companies came up with this in about the 1950's and it's just been getting worse every year. You should see what the department of standards says about American sizing. The clothing companies know that people would rather delude themselves than wear something that fits right. And yes, I'm a large woman, so I wear anything from a 1X to a 4X, and that's just fun, fun, fun to figure out!
PANTS! ugh!! I go to one shop and I buy a size 12 and they are lovely they slip on nicely. The next time it is jeans and they are a size 14 perfect okay, but the next shop I buy a size 14 jeans and they are too tight cannot get them over my thighs or bum. So up the ante to a 16 and yes they fit but the crutch is too long and the legs are too long and then the legs are too loose. This goes on ad infinitum. Dresses are worse. I have everything in my wardrobe from a size 12 to a size 16. bloody ridiculous. Pyjamas again I have two pairs size 10 - 2 pairs size 12 and a pair size 14. AAAAAAGHHHH.
I am not big but not small but the kids sizes are great I can fit into some of them, once again depending on the brand. we have a shop in New Zealand called Postie they are great for he sizing most times
And then we have small, medium, large, XL, XXL etc. Totally meaningless. I am 2XL to 9XL depending on the shop
It doesn't really matter that mens pants are supposedly measured by inches, because that's all fake too. I bought 9 pairs of jeans that claimed to be 34" waist. Some of them are too small for me, and others are roomy. Laying them on top of each other they are obviously different sizes. I don't recall if I tried to measure them particularly accurately, but I got sizes ranging from about 32" through to about 36.5"
Men's clothes are as bad but, sizes aren't exactly standard either. I have jeans that are two sizes different but fit the same. How is that possible. I have even gotten into the habit of comparing the lengths of multiple pairs of the same brand. Once i tried a pair of jeans on and they fit great. I bought another pair in same size but different color. When I got them home I laid them across my bed and noticed a difference. The pair I didn't try on was shorter even though everything said they were the same length. WTF?
For reference: just about everything I own is size EU XS/34-36 =I'm not a big woman. I bought a pair of black jeans from H&M that I liked and they fit me well. It was a size /40/ which is a few sizes bigger than usual. But I liked the jeans so I decided to buy the same model (even checked the code!) in blue. So of course I took a pair that was also a size 40. Did they fit? No. They were HUGE. What the everliving hell H&M?
Yeah this isn't a gender thing. I can wear anything between a 30 to a 33 inch waist for men.
Went to one shop, got fitting jeans of size 44 (EU). Went to another, got fitting size of 38. I'm usually 38 to 40. If I had not gone to another two shops, I would leave the mall really devastated. The mental hit I received with a 44 suddenly was a really difficult one to cope with. I know I should not care, but still it made me feel really miserable back in that moment.
Sizes have also shrunk over the years. I remember as a teen, a particular person wrote a size 17 and thwart person was rather large then. I wore a 17 last year (due to a medication - am now back to a 9) and I'm half the size that person was. I also don't understand why women's and trends are sized differently. I have to buy jeans in the teen section often bc of the way they are shaped and in a 9 or 11 but in women's I have to do a 10 or 12. Then I have to look for tall and heaven forbid they ever have tall so I always look like I'm wading the creek.
Male sizes are much the same. I have pants that fit me about the same in 4 different sizes. from 40 to 48 depending on company and style.
Don't get me wrong...this is annoying, but these companies cater to a certain demeogrpahoc and age group so there's a reason why sizes are different. The problem isn't with the companies but with people. You have to change your mind set and remember that value isn't set in size but in your self.
OH MY GOD!! Different brands have differences in sizes? WE MUST ALERT THE CHURCH ELDERS!!! but seriously, this is nothing new, and it's the same way with shoes.. Different shoes with the same size, are often not really the same size.
I actually like the useless pockets. I want my clothes to look good, not be bulked up with fabric and items stuffed into my clothes.
