50 Times People Called Out Blatantly Sexist Things That Are Still Prevalent In Society (New Pics)
Life’s full of blatantly sexist things and the everyday heroes of the internet keep calling them out, poking fun at them, and shining a bright spotlight on them to make it clear—these things are not okay. And, bit by bit, society changes. Hopefully, for the better.
The r/TrollXChromosomes subreddit, an online group that’s been active for a whopping decade and has over 812k members, documents when women and men confront sexism, misogyny, and toxic masculinity head-on. Have a look through some of their newest posts that we’ve collected for you, dear Pandas, and be sure to upvote the ones that rekindled your hope in greater equality in the world.
When you’re done with this list, we invite you to read through our first article about blatantly obvious sexism right here. Meanwhile, scroll down for our interview with psychotherapist Silva Neves, who explained to Bored Panda what men can do to put an end to toxicity, misogyny, and homophobia. According to him, it’s about redefining what ‘male success’ means and teaching society to stop turning a blind eye to what’s wrong.

The End

Education is a vital part of the fight for greater equality, compassion, inclusiveness, and respect. However, alone without any ongoing and passionate support from us, education isn’t the panacea against sexism, misogyny, and toxic masculinity that some of us are looking for. It’s not a one-and-done kind of deal: it’s a long, arduous, exhausting process, a war of attrition between competing ideas.
“Better education is definitely key but it is also down to all of us to challenge it by not allowing toxic masculinity to keep going. It means that we all have to actively challenge misogyny and homophobia,” psychotherapist Silva noted in an interview with Bored Panda. He added that both misogyny and homophobia are “still prevalent now in the UK,” where he is based, and “too many people continue to turn a blind eye when they see it.”
Just Let People Be
Let’s Eradicate The Terms “Consensual Sex” And “Non-Consensual Sex” - It’s Either Sex Or Rape. Language Shouldn’t Be Used As A Tool To Obfuscate Trauma And Horror
Let's Please Bring An End To Victim-Blaming, And Shaming
Incomplete analogy - she also needs to be the one who, on seeing a bloke be just a little tipsy, buys him more drinks before he's finished the last one, so he's kept just a little off-kilter by how many he's had, because of course, he shouldn't have drunk so much if he didn't want to get robbed.
According to Silva, men need to do their part and be more in tune with their emotions, instead of trying to repress them as is par for course with toxic masculinity.
“We need more representations of men who embrace their emotions, talk about them and show them with crying, laughing, or hugging,” he said.

Honestly I stopped dating,so I don't start to judge men over a bunch of men which " don't find we match- but can I get some sexual service instead?" Annoying how often it happens.- and it's not my clothes or behavior.( I'm already used to this explanation automatically) Wanna stay openminded and believe in all the good guys out there- so I've just avoid this situations by now.
I'm Sure Selfawarewolves Would Love This
Something else that drastically needs to change is how ‘male success’ and masculinity are defined. “We also need to change the image of 'male success'. So, basically, we need to change society at its core because toxic masculinity is part of a faulty system of thoughts. That will take time, but it can start with all of us doing our parts about it,” the psychotherapist told Bored Panda.

Unfortunately, there seems to be getting more of the wrong sort, with the internet spreading weird ideas and connecting the creeps together so they can feed off each other rather than being kept in check by decent male role models around them.
Every Single One
Same here. I just want to walk without having to be aware I could be raped or killed.
Load More Replies...I won't lie, reading this was an eye opener for me. It's not possible for me to fully understand the female experience and every time I see the actual depth of the problem I'm still shocked ...
I'm sorry to burst your bubble. In my 42 years of life, born female, I have NEVER done any of these.
My ex could not understand why I absolutely would NOT walk down to the lake by myself using a secluded path, or why my car doors were ALWAYS locked, or why the basement door was ALWAYS barricaded when he was not there. Well, because the 6PM news story always starts off with, "She was last seen..."
The scary thing for me is that I was mugged by a group of girls (I was 16 at the time, they were around 16 to 18 years old). So I'm wary of everyone now.
I am very sorry that hppened to you and completely understand why you are so wary.
Load More Replies...I tell people this. Ask any woman you know, any woman, and she has been sexually harassed or even sexually assaulted by some man somewhere at least one time. Every. Single. One.
Not necessarily. If you have had to do these things too, i do feel for you. If men do this regularly, it is not spoken about enough. Just don't dismiss my fears, as a woman, and i won't dismiss yours!
Load More Replies...Last night, I was catching the bus at 10:30pm and there was a drunk guy playing the guitar. I decided to get off at the stop before the last stop to avoid him (but it was also a slight shortcut). As I got off the bus, he stopped loudly singing off-key and said, "There you go, Lady, get home safe". Don't judge a book, etc. (On the other hand, I have been yelled at by drunks, because I ignored them calling out at me).
Had to start when I was eleven. ELEVEN. So many gross, creepy, disgusting perverts out there.
Since I started walking home from school in sixth grade, I imagined how I would defend myself if I needed to. And I never thought anything of it because I imagined a lot of things while walking home. But I still knew my flute case could knock somebody unconscious.
I AM SADLY 100% WOMAN SADLY AND I HAVE NEVER NEVER DONE ANY OF THESE NOT A SINGLE ONE, WOMEN HAVE ONE OF THE BIGGEST CHIPS ON THERE SHOLDER
I’m glad you’ve never felt threatened but that does not give you the right to judge those of us who have.
Load More Replies...I'm a 13y old girl, every time I go outside on my own I try to avoid streets where there is very few people, if I'm walking down a street and i see a group of men I will turn the nearest corner and run, I keep my phone close to my hand, I call my friends/family just so I can feel safe, if I'm being followed I'll speed up and go to a street where there's people or just run. I'm so sick of it and yet I'm a teenager, I can't even imagine what older women go through when they walk alone on the streets
Not all men, but 99% of women have done this. Have been assaulted. R@ped. Catcalled.
I've carried a knife, not keys, in my hand. My hand, his crotch...no contest. Living in fear SUCKS!
When I was in college, I had a night class and I always walked back through the building to walk to my car. I was doing this in case someone needed to recall the last place they saw me.
Yup. Back in the days before Google Maps, I had moved to a new town, got a cab to go home but got lost. Called my landlord for directions and I kept calling him "dad", purely for the cab driver's benefit. I was living alone, and I wasn't going to let on. He probably thought I was really dumb though for not knowing where my own dad lived.
Very much so. More often than I care to think about. It's exhausting to constantly be aware and not just freely walk to my car without concern of being followed or attacked. We shouldn't have to run to our cars and slam the door locks as soon as we get it. Or be scared when getting off a bus or train. It's not ok.
I can no longer take a walk down my street, why? Because there is an RV that has decided to make my street its home. Although our city has a law in that RVs are not allowed to do this. No one gets out of the RV, but I have seen him driving in our city so I know what he looks like. Recently he removed the back lic plate from the RV. No one is allowing their kids even older ones to walk the dogs and play outside with adult supervision. Its really scary to think what this person might be capable of especially since he has people pulling up in cars and bikes all times of day and night. But the police dept will not do anything, we all have called and its been a month and the rv still lives on our street. Sadly its a cul de sac so taking walks are very uncomfortable for a lot of us right now. I guess something bad will have to happen in order for the police to do their jobs.
Could you organise group.walks? Mixed groups of men and women and different ages?

Apparently in some countries it is illegal for a woman to hold her keys in her hand to prepare for defense... Brutal laws that only hurt victims. So sad.
Actually, many women I know haven't even been out of their homes frequently. They have lived the majority of their lives as traditional housewives, not knowing many times people normally know. This they always remain dependent on others, mostly the men of the house. I want to change this, atleast among the people I know.
Sometimes you can't made fake phone calls because even the phone can be taken away

Load More Replies...Don’t forget “Has disguised their gender with clothes”. When I was around 10, my friend’s mom had us dress in gender neutral clothes, wear baseball caps to hide our hair, no jewelry so we would be less likely to be grabbed or harassed walking 1/2 mile to the corner store. I still do it somewhat now, to avoid unwanted attention.
Absolutely. This is why I rarely go anywhere after dark anymore. And if I do, I take an Uber/Lyft or Taxi right to my door where we have a 24-hour concierge. I will not take any chances anymore.
Men are wary of other men too. Toxic or not men evaluate other men on whether they represent a physical hazard and how they might have to engage with them. .
I used to have to walk home from work at 2am (I was a cook) and would sing songs from Bernstein's Mass at top volume- even molesters want to avoid crazy.
I haven't. I guess there's a upside to being grotesquely ugly and morbidly obese.
I mean, it's very possible that it's not every single woman, but i imagine it's a very high percentage. Please don't dismiss legitimate fears because your brain can't comprehend them.

I don't think Andrew understands equality. Equality is women being allowed to walk around topless like men can without being arrested, touched, have derogatory remarks made about them or sexual advances etc.

Abortion Rights Is A Human Rights
Women are not dismissible incubators. I wonder if men would be okay with an unwanted growth in their organs for 9 months, causing weight gain, mood swings, nausea, and basically a complete loss of bodily autonomy as strangers constantly pat you like a class gerbil. I assume men would not be okay with that. Why they think women should be is beyond me. If you want to avoid unwanted pregnancies, get a vasectomy.
The Reason Why We Need To Stop Saying #notallmen
I once heard that the rate of attempted suicides among men is about the same as that among women. But men are more often successful. A woman would take sleeping pills or cut her pulse. You can still save them in time. A guy jumps in front of the train or out of the window and is dead. Those might be clichees too, but women think more and men are more impulsive / spontaneous.
I Think We All Know Why
This. Once my colleague (female) said to me "I didn't know you were one of those",you know feminist type. Men don't like feminists. I told her even I don't like misogynist men. She later warned me that my "type" will make sure I will never marry. I told her I'll take my chances and I am not afraid of never getting married.

What you should really stop doing is loudly broadcasting to all womankind how they should mold themselves to what you like.

The annoying thing is, that they often get SO much upvotes >:(
I Agree
Problem is, as with any social construct, sexism has multiple levels. You have "innocent" or mimetic sexism (literally just doing what everyone else does with no beliefs or understanding involved; seen almost exclusively in small children), passive sexism (weakly-held beliefs at best, mostly just doing it because they either don't know there's an alternative or haven't given it much thought; many fall into this category), active sexism (strongly-held beliefs, resistant to alternative viewpoints, very prone to cognitive dissonance), and extremist sexism (striving to enforce and enhance sexist attitudes and beliefs in others as well as holding strong sexist beliefs).

America Hates Women
This American YouTuber lost it when she came to New Zealand, because when she had kids in the US, she lost her career and had to start over. Then she found out that we get maternity leave and our prime minister used it during her first term, and it really hit this woman that whatever problems we have in this department, the US is next-level horrible about it. It really sucks and I hope the US improves that.

I am raising my boys to treat girls equally and to treat them as friends and it has worked perfectly so far. What I didn’t know, until we moved to a new city, was my youngest (who was in grade two at the time) was known as the peacekeeper of his class between the boys and girls. A couple of the moms who were friends of my wife said that after we moved the boys started to bully the girls. Why can’t more parents teach their boys respect?
It's all about education and there needs to be a consistent and thorough programme to bring boys up to realise all these above things. We'll never get anywhere unless, straight from the start, we nurture youngsters to understand equality. It's harder to teach stubborn sexist adults, like Bryan Wilson below (By the way, if anyone knows him, report him to the police - he's a potential rapist), but some people will understand this and progress will be made. Eventually more people will realise that treating women unequally for any reason is unacceptable.
Something I really like about this article is that a ton of men are talking about the sexism and it's given me more tolerance for some men. It's a good reminder that despite how many donkeys there are, there are still plenty men that care about women and want to help the become equal.
The comments in this post show why people won't "discuss" this topic - a lot of people aren't able to discuss and jump to insults right away if an argument doesn't fit their narrative
