50 Times People Called Out Blatantly Sexist Things That Are Still Prevalent In Society (New Pics)
Life’s full of blatantly sexist things and the everyday heroes of the internet keep calling them out, poking fun at them, and shining a bright spotlight on them to make it clear—these things are not okay. And, bit by bit, society changes. Hopefully, for the better.
The r/TrollXChromosomes subreddit, an online group that’s been active for a whopping decade and has over 812k members, documents when women and men confront sexism, misogyny, and toxic masculinity head-on. Have a look through some of their newest posts that we’ve collected for you, dear Pandas, and be sure to upvote the ones that rekindled your hope in greater equality in the world.
When you’re done with this list, we invite you to read through our first article about blatantly obvious sexism right here. Meanwhile, scroll down for our interview with psychotherapist Silva Neves, who explained to Bored Panda what men can do to put an end to toxicity, misogyny, and homophobia. According to him, it’s about redefining what ‘male success’ means and teaching society to stop turning a blind eye to what’s wrong.

Absolutely Hate The Way Our Clothing Was Policed In School
The End
Seeing how many people are unable to wear a simple mask correctly I no longer place any trust in condoms
Load More Replies...The medical risks, symptoms and physical toll of pregnancy are much more severe than those of a reversable vasectomy.
This is what I've been saying forever but men's bodies won't ever be policed only women's bodies. They want to control women bc it benefits them the men in charge. They make sure to pit us against each other too so we control ourselves and they have it easier. It's insane
They can be reversed but it is not considered a reversible surgery. 75% success rate if you have your vasectomy reversed within 3 years and the odds keep going down the longer you don't have it reversed. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/contraception/vasectomy-reversal-nhs/

Load More Replies...Having a vasectomy was one of the best choices I ever made anyway. Wish I had gotten it done sooner and without spending a thousand dollars. I'm for this.
I just learned that there was a sterilization law passed in 1909 in California, US that allowed state institutions to sterilize women who are deemed "unfit" or "feeble-minded". This went on for 70 years. Stop trying to regulate women's bodies. Leave us alone!
And back then there didn't need to be any proof that a woman was "unfit" or "feeble-minded." All someone had to do was say they were and that was enough to have the woman sterilized and/or institutionalized. So very sad.
Load More Replies...They are, but the body develops antibodies to your own sperm because they are blocked from leaving the body the normal way. So after reversing a vasectomy you might have a more difficult time getting someone pregnant because your body will still be attacking your sperm. That kind of why I'm hopeful that vasalgel will get approved in the US so men can get a effective, nonhormonal, form of birth control that last 10 years and can be reversed without any side effects. It still involves getting an injection into your junk so I'm sure lots of men will still puss out on getting it but hopefully that will eventually change.
Load More Replies...I stopped taking birth control pills in my late 20s because they made me sick to my stomach to the point that thinking about taking it would make nauseated. Tried a diaphragm for a while, what a mess! then got an IUD, excruciatingly painful to insert. When it was about to expire, I suggested to my husband that one or the other, or both of us get a vasectomy or tubes tied. He said doing this was "too permanent " Neither of us had a burning desire to be parents. My IUD expired and I became pregnant. Then, he wanted me to have an abortion but I refused. I changed my mind once I became pregnant and wanted to have my baby. He couldn't get to a doctor fast enough to get a vasectomy after the fact. I divorced him.
I still do not understand why in 2021 there is no Male pill, the freedom men would have and no obligation seems like something that would be wanted. Wearing condoms etc sure thing, but if men could just turn off the tap so to speak until ready to have a family the world would be very different for it.
There was one in like 19XX or something but nobody liked the side effects so they dropped it.
Load More Replies...I like this idea, although I'd prefer that they go with something like vasalgel that's good for 10 years and works in a way that your body doesn't start developing antibodies for your own sperm. However, as Otter says, "Use a condom anyway, vasectomies don't prevent the transmission of STDs". I do wonder how assholeish a lot of (presumably young) men would be if had a vasectomy from an early age? I can just picture the increased amount of douchieness as they wined about wearing a condom "because they are fixed". Then there are the assholes who would be even more assholish if a pregnancy occurred because they couldn't have gotten anyone pregnant they had a vasectomy. So not their kid.
Love it! Hit the “pro-life” nonsense conservatives with that or just simply refuse sex with such jerks.
Also...teach young kids about Plan b..its affordable and you can buy it on amazon. Youve got 72 hours
Is forcing someone to have a procedure done on their body because of their gender not sexist you smooth-brained piece of s**t?
Its far from certain that a vasectomy reversal will work but I take your point, besides there are too many people on the planet anyway and lots of kids that need adoption.
They've already started it. Just that instead of 'vasectomy', it's called "school shooting".
I'd go as far as finger printing and taking DNA sample from every single baby born and put them in an international database. This way, crimes would be solved easily, men can't back out of fatherhood duties, families and relatives can be reunited. You don't want your privacy invaded and don't want the government following you? Heck! You already put all your life on social media. Unless you never had a bank card, social security number, never visited a doctor, were born in a cave, the government already knows everything about you.
Right. Let's make a rule then. Tied tubes only and vasectomies. Happy? Thought not. I play for the wife's birth control, ensure it is taken on time (without being a d!ck), and deal with and accept everything that comes with it. The old argument to this is: It is smarter to choose where to plant the acorn, that to move the river. BILLIONS of sperm cells (with 1 goal in mind) per month, vs 1 egg (sitting on its bug-ass).
I know this is meant to be an exaggeration, but vasectomy reversibility isn't something one should count on. After a few years, it's 50/50 at most.
I'm all for this but it goes for women too. Get on birth control...however I'm all for "LIFE LESSON LEARN" . If your an adult or even a teen having sex, then you should self control. I had a child at 19 and I don't regret it whatsoever. He's now a college graduate, handsome intelligent young man!
I (legitimately) wasn't aware vasectomies could be reversed after many years.
That's not a bad idea. If the state would pay for it But it will lead to an increase of STDs, I think.
Are you all for real? This discussion is just it, a discussion. You don't need to worry, no one wants to force a vasectomy on you BUT: infertility may be the wrong word, yet there are always possible complications like infection or some kind of damage, that will leave the woman after an abortion unable to become pregnant, plus all the mental trauma that comes with it! So no, abortions are not been than vasectomies and how about we don't let it come to that we need either of them?
So the female does not have to be deemed suitable to be a mother? Before you are allowed to breed you should need a licence.
Murdering unborn babies is not the answer! You made your "choice" when you decided that you were mature enough to have sex and all the potential risks that come along with it!
I cannot argue with this I have personally felt that the abortion issue has been a male issue for years I cannot create a baby! No woman in male dominated society should have to take issue and think we control her body
Soyexfox, I went through this entire post and you were the one I noticed the most so I looked at your comment history. I have drawn 3 possible conclusions. 1) (most likely) You are absolutely not a woman as no women speak to the extent you do about other women. 2) you are so freaking damaged that you need significant psychological intervention 3) you are a troll. Whichever one is true, I really pity you.
Load More Replies...Do we need a sarcasm sign? After the last few years, we might.
Load More Replies...I think there are different situations and its not as black and white as 'if you can abort, i can abandon'. Having conversations about kids is a big thing that NOBODY does. It has to be out in the open from the moment you decide to have sex just in case an accident happens, but people aren't clever enough to do this. I completely agree, if you have had the conversation and told the person, you do not want kids and if you have done EVERYTHING in your power to avoid a pregnancy (condoms, bc etc) then yeah, walk away because of thet decide to go ahead with a pregnancy, thats their choice and they've done it against your wishes. Same with abortion. If a woman has been open and honest and said 'i will get an abortion if i end up pregnant' and she did everything she could to prevent that pregnancy, she should be able to get an abortion all she wants. Do i think abortion should be used as a form of BC. Most definitely not, but it shouldn't be restricted.
Load More Replies...Hahaha you're missing the point and apparently you don't realize how often saying no simply doesn't work.
Load More Replies...That's a far cry from forcing a woman to go through a dangerous pregnancy that she doesn't want
Load More Replies...Except women have to be put under anesthesia to have an equal procedure and no womens are not as reversable. Sometimes the tubes scar shut and then it would involve other costly procedures similar to IVF to concieve. Men, numb, snip/clamp. Reversal.... Numb, snip, unclamp, reattach, reversed. Women have a 2 inch scar going through the abdominal wall and muscles that will be severed which take 6 weeks to heal.... men are tender for a few days but are generally good to be walking around within 48 hours. Dont talk about what you dont know. Also - Male birth control - causes less mental health issue, no risk of blood clots and much more effective than hormonal birth control for women. Spend a call with your local public health unit and learn a little.

Education is a vital part of the fight for greater equality, compassion, inclusiveness, and respect. However, alone without any ongoing and passionate support from us, education isn’t the panacea against sexism, misogyny, and toxic masculinity that some of us are looking for. It’s not a one-and-done kind of deal: it’s a long, arduous, exhausting process, a war of attrition between competing ideas.
“Better education is definitely key but it is also down to all of us to challenge it by not allowing toxic masculinity to keep going. It means that we all have to actively challenge misogyny and homophobia,” psychotherapist Silva noted in an interview with Bored Panda. He added that both misogyny and homophobia are “still prevalent now in the UK,” where he is based, and “too many people continue to turn a blind eye when they see it.”

Incomplete analogy - she also needs to be the one who, on seeing a bloke be just a little tipsy, buys him more drinks before he's finished the last one, so he's kept just a little off-kilter by how many he's had, because of course, he shouldn't have drunk so much if he didn't want to get robbed.
According to Silva, men need to do their part and be more in tune with their emotions, instead of trying to repress them as is par for course with toxic masculinity.
“We need more representations of men who embrace their emotions, talk about them and show them with crying, laughing, or hugging,” he said.

Honestly I stopped dating,so I don't start to judge men over a bunch of men which " don't find we match- but can I get some sexual service instead?" Annoying how often it happens.- and it's not my clothes or behavior.( I'm already used to this explanation automatically) Wanna stay openminded and believe in all the good guys out there- so I've just avoid this situations by now.

Something else that drastically needs to change is how ‘male success’ and masculinity are defined. “We also need to change the image of 'male success'. So, basically, we need to change society at its core because toxic masculinity is part of a faulty system of thoughts. That will take time, but it can start with all of us doing our parts about it,” the psychotherapist told Bored Panda.

Unfortunately, there seems to be getting more of the wrong sort, with the internet spreading weird ideas and connecting the creeps together so they can feed off each other rather than being kept in check by decent male role models around them.

I don't think Andrew understands equality. Equality is women being allowed to walk around topless like men can without being arrested, touched, have derogatory remarks made about them or sexual advances etc.

Abortion Rights Is A Human Rights
Women are not dismissible incubators. I wonder if men would be okay with an unwanted growth in their organs for 9 months, causing weight gain, mood swings, nausea, and basically a complete loss of bodily autonomy as strangers constantly pat you like a class gerbil. I assume men would not be okay with that. Why they think women should be is beyond me. If you want to avoid unwanted pregnancies, get a vasectomy.
The Reason Why We Need To Stop Saying #notallmen
I once heard that the rate of attempted suicides among men is about the same as that among women. But men are more often successful. A woman would take sleeping pills or cut her pulse. You can still save them in time. A guy jumps in front of the train or out of the window and is dead. Those might be clichees too, but women think more and men are more impulsive / spontaneous.
I Think We All Know Why
This. Once my colleague (female) said to me "I didn't know you were one of those",you know feminist type. Men don't like feminists. I told her even I don't like misogynist men. She later warned me that my "type" will make sure I will never marry. I told her I'll take my chances and I am not afraid of never getting married.

OMG, I find that ALL the time on reddit, mainly with the stereotype of men gaming and girls not at all (it angers me so much as I am a girl who enjoys computer games a LOT) and men vs girls after masturbation, which is so disgusting for me. The annoying thing is, that they often get SO much upvotes >:(
I Agree
Problem is, as with any social construct, sexism has multiple levels. You have "innocent" or mimetic sexism (literally just doing what everyone else does with no beliefs or understanding involved; seen almost exclusively in small children), passive sexism (weakly-held beliefs at best, mostly just doing it because they either don't know there's an alternative or haven't given it much thought; many fall into this category), active sexism (strongly-held beliefs, resistant to alternative viewpoints, very prone to cognitive dissonance), and extremist sexism (striving to enforce and enhance sexist attitudes and beliefs in others as well as holding strong sexist beliefs).

America Hates Women
This American YouTuber lost it when she came to New Zealand, because when she had kids in the US, she lost her career and had to start over. Then she found out that we get maternity leave and our prime minister used it during her first term, and it really hit this woman that whatever problems we have in this department, the US is next-level horrible about it. It really sucks and I hope the US improves that.

I am raising my boys to treat girls equally and to treat them as friends and it has worked perfectly so far. What I didn’t know, until we moved to a new city, was my youngest (who was in grade two at the time) was known as the peacekeeper of his class between the boys and girls. A couple of the moms who were friends of my wife said that after we moved the boys started to bully the girls. Why can’t more parents teach their boys respect?
It's all about education and there needs to be a consistent and thorough programme to bring boys up to realise all these above things. We'll never get anywhere unless, straight from the start, we nurture youngsters to understand equality. It's harder to teach stubborn sexist adults, like Bryan Wilson below (By the way, if anyone knows him, report him to the police - he's a potential rapist), but some people will understand this and progress will be made. Eventually more people will realise that treating women unequally for any reason is unacceptable.
Something I really like about this article is that a ton of men are talking about the sexism and it's given me more tolerance for some men. It's a good reminder that despite how many donkeys there are, there are still plenty men that care about women and want to help the become equal.
The comments in this post show why people won't "discuss" this topic - a lot of people aren't able to discuss and jump to insults right away if an argument doesn't fit their narrative
