Life’s full of blatantly sexist things and the everyday heroes of the internet keep calling them out, poking fun at them, and shining a bright spotlight on them to make it clear—these things are not okay. And, bit by bit, society changes. Hopefully, for the better.

The r/TrollXChromosomes subreddit, an online group that’s been active for a whopping decade and has over 812k members, documents when women and men confront sexism, misogyny, and toxic masculinity head-on. Have a look through some of their newest posts that we’ve collected for you, dear Pandas, and be sure to upvote the ones that rekindled your hope in greater equality in the world.

When you’re done with this list, we invite you to read through our first article about blatantly obvious sexism right here. Meanwhile, scroll down for our interview with psychotherapist Silva Neves, who explained to Bored Panda what men can do to put an end to toxicity, misogyny, and homophobia. According to him, it’s about redefining what ‘male success’ means and teaching society to stop turning a blind eye to what’s wrong.

Education is a vital part of the fight for greater equality, compassion, inclusiveness, and respect. However, alone without any ongoing and passionate support from us, education isn’t the panacea against sexism, misogyny, and toxic masculinity that some of us are looking for. It’s not a one-and-done kind of deal: it’s a long, arduous, exhausting process, a war of attrition between competing ideas.

“Better education is definitely key but it is also down to all of us to challenge it by not allowing toxic masculinity to keep going. It means that we all have to actively challenge misogyny and homophobia,” psychotherapist Silva noted in an interview with Bored Panda. He added that both misogyny and homophobia are “still prevalent now in the UK,” where he is based, and “too many people continue to turn a blind eye when they see it.”

Incomplete analogy - she also needs to be the one who, on seeing a bloke be just a little tipsy, buys him more drinks before he's finished the last one, so he's kept just a little off-kilter by how many he's had, because of course, he shouldn't have drunk so much if he didn't want to get robbed.

According to Silva, men need to do their part and be more in tune with their emotions, instead of trying to repress them as is par for course with toxic masculinity.

“We need more representations of men who embrace their emotions, talk about them and show them with crying, laughing, or hugging,” he said.

Honestly I stopped dating,so I don't start to judge men over a bunch of men which " don't find we match- but can I get some sexual service instead?" Annoying how often it happens.- and it's not my clothes or behavior.( I'm already used to this explanation automatically) Wanna stay openminded and believe in all the good guys out there- so I've just avoid this situations by now.

Something else that drastically needs to change is how ‘male success’ and masculinity are defined. “We also need to change the image of 'male success'. So, basically, we need to change society at its core because toxic masculinity is part of a faulty system of thoughts. That will take time, but it can start with all of us doing our parts about it,” the psychotherapist told Bored Panda.

Unfortunately, there seems to be getting more of the wrong sort, with the internet spreading weird ideas and connecting the creeps together so they can feed off each other rather than being kept in check by decent male role models around them.

Hi John - it's absolutely true. I have male cleaners and I explained to them the other day that I would have never allowed them to clean my house if they were Caucasian (I live alone) and that women feel less scared around Asian men. Omg they were so surprised. Yes we have to do the safe thing and assume we are under threat 100% of the time because if we are wrong the outcome is devastating. The outcome is something we will NEVER get over. And the outcome is a very real possibility.

Last night, I was catching the bus at 10:30pm and there was a drunk guy playing the guitar. I decided to get off at the stop before the last stop to avoid him (but it was also a slight shortcut). As I got off the bus, he stopped loudly singing off-key and said, "There you go, Lady, get home safe". Don't judge a book, etc. (On the other hand, I have been yelled at by drunks, because I ignored them calling out at me).

I'm a 13y old girl, every time I go outside on my own I try to avoid streets where there is very few people, if I'm walking down a street and i see a group of men I will turn the nearest corner and run, I keep my phone close to my hand, I call my friends/family just so I can feel safe, if I'm being followed I'll speed up and go to a street where there's people or just run. I'm so sick of it and yet I'm a teenager, I can't even imagine what older women go through when they walk alone on the streets

Yup. Back in the days before Google Maps, I had moved to a new town, got a cab to go home but got lost. Called my landlord for directions and I kept calling him "dad", purely for the cab driver's benefit. I was living alone, and I wasn't going to let on. He probably thought I was really dumb though for not knowing where my own dad lived.

Very much so. More often than I care to think about. It's exhausting to constantly be aware and not just freely walk to my car without concern of being followed or attacked. We shouldn't have to run to our cars and slam the door locks as soon as we get it. Or be scared when getting off a bus or train. It's not ok.

I can no longer take a walk down my street, why? Because there is an RV that has decided to make my street its home. Although our city has a law in that RVs are not allowed to do this. No one gets out of the RV, but I have seen him driving in our city so I know what he looks like. Recently he removed the back lic plate from the RV. No one is allowing their kids even older ones to walk the dogs and play outside with adult supervision. Its really scary to think what this person might be capable of especially since he has people pulling up in cars and bikes all times of day and night. But the police dept will not do anything, we all have called and its been a month and the rv still lives on our street. Sadly its a cul de sac so taking walks are very uncomfortable for a lot of us right now. I guess something bad will have to happen in order for the police to do their jobs.

Actually, many women I know haven't even been out of their homes frequently. They have lived the majority of their lives as traditional housewives, not knowing many times people normally know. This they always remain dependent on others, mostly the men of the house. I want to change this, atleast among the people I know.

Don’t forget “Has disguised their gender with clothes”. When I was around 10, my friend’s mom had us dress in gender neutral clothes, wear baseball caps to hide our hair, no jewelry so we would be less likely to be grabbed or harassed walking 1/2 mile to the corner store. I still do it somewhat now, to avoid unwanted attention.

Women are not dismissible incubators. I wonder if men would be okay with an unwanted growth in their organs for 9 months, causing weight gain, mood swings, nausea, and basically a complete loss of bodily autonomy as strangers constantly pat you like a class gerbil. I assume men would not be okay with that. Why they think women should be is beyond me. If you want to avoid unwanted pregnancies, get a vasectomy.

I once heard that the rate of attempted suicides among men is about the same as that among women. But men are more often successful. A woman would take sleeping pills or cut her pulse. You can still save them in time. A guy jumps in front of the train or out of the window and is dead. Those might be clichees too, but women think more and men are more impulsive / spontaneous.

You can even decide to only pursue romantic interests that fit your preferences. What you should really stop doing is loudly broadcasting to all womankind how they should mold themselves to what you like.

OMG, I find that ALL the time on reddit, mainly with the stereotype of men gaming and girls not at all (it angers me so much as I am a girl who enjoys computer games a LOT) and men vs girls after masturbation, which is so disgusting for me. The annoying thing is, that they often get SO much upvotes >:(

Problem is, as with any social construct, sexism has multiple levels. You have "innocent" or mimetic sexism (literally just doing what everyone else does with no beliefs or understanding involved; seen almost exclusively in small children), passive sexism (weakly-held beliefs at best, mostly just doing it because they either don't know there's an alternative or haven't given it much thought; many fall into this category), active sexism (strongly-held beliefs, resistant to alternative viewpoints, very prone to cognitive dissonance), and extremist sexism (striving to enforce and enhance sexist attitudes and beliefs in others as well as holding strong sexist beliefs).

Don't forget the "what a waste", but it's like "sorry dude, even if she liked men, she still wouldn't be dating you"

We're clearly soldiers in petticoats And dauntless crusaders for women's votes Though we adore men individually We agree that as a group they're rather stupid

This American YouTuber lost it when she came to New Zealand, because when she had kids in the US, she lost her career and had to start over. Then she found out that we get maternity leave and our prime minister used it during her first term, and it really hit this woman that whatever problems we have in this department, the US is next-level horrible about it. It really sucks and I hope the US improves that.
