Hairy Armpits Is The Latest Women’s Trend On Instagram
Throughout our history, there have been countless beauty trends. Just these couple last years gave us the squiggle brow, glittery butts, fur nails, faux freckles, and unicorn everything. If you'd wish to dig deeper in the older days, you'd find such trends as dyeing tour teeth black a la Japanese, eating absolutely deathly arsenic for skin whitening, and removing the eyelashes in Middle ages just to name a few. But what about keeping it au naturel ?
Alongside the over-the-top makeup trends goes the liberating natural beauty trend. And believe it or not, hairy women, or hairy armpits to be exact, is the new it. Many Instagram influencers have posted pictures, proudly showing their ungroomed armpit hair. Some of them have even begun dying their armpit hair, receiving plenty of praise and criticism for inventing new beauty standards in the process.
Girls with hairy armpits declare this trend as a form of feminism, because why should you shave for somebody else? For some women, cultivating body hair is a way to protest the beauty and maintenance standards placed upon them by society. Indeed, even photographers like Ben Hopper have used armpit-haired models to communicate this message.
Before 1915 and the advent of women's shaving marketing campaigns, even pinups often sported all of their body hair and women with hairy armpits were absolute norm. As they say, there are no friends in taste!

I don't care what people do to their own bodies, but I shave my pits cuz I can't stand the feel of the hair there.. my husband shaves his pits for the exact same reason. I'm straight, so I don't know if a woman who has hair there would be a turn off, but I don't have a problem with men having it, so I doubt I'd care. But I will say these are beautiful women, and as such are going to be more accepted. If you put up Rosie O'Donnell or Roseanne or just someone who isn't a widely accepted beauty, and I'm thinking these comments would be undoubtedly different.

This is trend really awesome! However I think it is irrelevant wether it's a woman or a man who's showing armpit hair.
It's a real society fail when something what's naturally on everyone's body is called disgusting. Armpit (also pubic) hair is natural part of skin flora. It's still being explored but there is scientificla proof that most of our "unwanted" hair has impact on our imune system as they catch microbes and don't let them cause skin diseases and reach blood.

Some employers require you to, but if they do you yell at them to stop oppressing you or you're going to sue for gender discrimination. After all, if women in the workplace can go around showing off their scraggly armpit hair in sleeveless dresses or grow out a thick beard, why shouldn't men be allowed to let the hair on their face grow naturally at the office? For that matter, why do men have to wear stuffy two or three-piece suits and sweat profusely while women don't have to wear a wool jacket on top of a dress shirt and undershirt.
Well...I probably won't join the trend but I don't think it is disgusting or something, it is their choice (and it is easy to break with this trend, not like the other more invasive trends, tunnel earrings f.ex.) :)
I have never shaved my arm pits and I am 41. Personally I believe if you want to shave do it if you don't then leave it. Society in general judges individuals by the wrong thing. Personally I have been judged for my body my entire life. I don't care who you are or where you come from you are human and have the right to do as you please with your body. Putting expectations on someone to conform is unfair to the person. We as a society should be looking at character and ones ability to help or not help his fellow man. If you want to be helpful Judge not. Expect good from others set a high standard. Not a superficial Idea to make everyone alike. Being different is a gift from the universe. Embrace it!

It's a cultural norm for women to shave. Bucking that norm makes people feel like individuals. I suppose there are more harmful ways to show ones individuality and we should be glad it's just pit hair.
Notice how so many are saying that shaving should be a free choice for the individual woman... so then why are mean not allowed to have the free choice of the opinion that they don't personally find this attractive? Your body, you can do with it what you want, but that doesn't mean it's going to be to everyone else's taste. It isn't about men's opinion, that's why. Men don't own women's bodies, so what they do with them is none of men's business and doesn't require nor ask for any thought a man has on the subject. Not everything is done to appear attractive to the male eye, as there are far more important things in life to be wasting time on.

In some countries men that shave their chest,armpits or legs are considered sexier by the ladies. Just because it's trendy now to have a beard and rock a hairy chest doesn't mean man do not face similar challenges ... Of course ... it matter only when we talk about women ...
The thing is, it isn't about who has it rougher. Playing the victim game is not the gal here, and protesting a protest isn't exactly productive. Women are far more likely, around the globe, to experience these issues with this level of intensity. You wouldn't spend all of your resources on a species that is relatively healthy across all markets; you would spend them on the one that desperately needs aid and is suffering at immense rates.

you know, i get the whole anti-imposed-beauty norm movements. but personally i don't like the feeling of moving my arm around and feeling the rub of the hair in my armpit. yack! makes my skin crawl. the same with hairy legs. when i get into bed and i feel the sheets rubbing against the hairs on my legs.... i mean i get the ideology, i get some people like it, i personally shave like crazy and wax because i'm more comfy like that. and i remember a girl once scolded me at a festival for doing all that and i was like.. er... isn't it all supposed to be about what women find most comfy for themselves?

I find it charming, and not in the least bit unattractive. People associate body - particularly female body hair with being unhygienic and it is definitely a negative stigma without foundation. As a man I actually choose to keep my own body hair neat and trimmed- personally, it makes me feel cleaner and more presentable should I find myself in an intimate situation. I must however confess that I'm still not sure how I feel about female leg hair- I think the legs are something that is so often sexualised and ingrained into our cultural ideals of what is sexy- smooth, soft skin. To conclude: Armpit hair can be sexy. Leg hair- not so sure, not yet. And I understand that is a completely selfish/sexist and objectifying way of looking at it. But that's the only capacity in which I have a preference.

I feel like this is part of the feminist trend , but in a lot of countries, especially Europeans, even men are considered "disgusting" or a "turn-off" if they do not shave their armpits ... No one should tell you what to do with your body, but don't go around calling others names because they can't accept it. That's part of a cult that women helped create. I guess I'm just ahead of my time. I got my wife to grow out her armpit hair got the first time in about 2001. I had seen some pictures online and thought it was sexy. No, 15 years later, and she basically only shaves in the summer, and then only if she is going to wear something sleeveless (I can't convince her to just let the world see it.) anyway, I hope the trend continues to grow (pun intended)

Personally I don't find it at all charming. I am a man and I keep mine closely trimmed. Of course it's perfectly natural, like having hair on your (female) butt or upper lip and everyone has the right to opt out of grooming whatever part of their body but there's nothing at all sexist or oppressive about shaving your armpits, it's just the same as waxing your legs or plucking your eyebrows. Yeah, people talk about all the wonderful natural benefits that armpit hair brings while at the same time putting a ton of chemicals in their hair, on their face, their fingernails, you name it. It's all about getting likes/followers, being popular. And of course armpit hair is a fad, nothing but a fad can make something gross so popular hahaha. Hygiene wise it is always good to shave because hair traps sweat and hairs may drop-off inappropriately. Otherwise, its a personal choice.

Deodorants can be irritating for the skin. The French used a lot of perfume in the old days because they did not wash enough.
I think it is smelly =(. I shave them since ever and even my boyfriend shaves them when the hair gets long... at some point his armpits smell like sweat even after a shower but when he shaves that smell disappears

Keeping the armpits hair is definitely a personal preferences, but if you decided to go public with it then you should expect pros and cons.. For me personally is not about shaving it or not.. but the public display can be very disturbing to some extent..
