When a celebrity appears in the media soon after she's had a new baby, you'll probably hear quite a few questions about what she's doing to "bounce back." But the answers about their body transformations might not be 100% honest. That's when the Instagram account called @takebackpostpartum steps in. It spreads body positivity, encouraging new moms to embrace their postpartum stretch marks and other pregnancy battle scars.

January Harshe is the woman behind the postpartum body project. "I said, ladies, if you want to make a change, we have to do it ourselves," the mother of six told TODAY. "There was a big response. Women said, 'Let's show what this is like'….What I've learned is that every woman struggles with pregnancy and even postpartum depression one way or another. Every woman struggles differently. I'm trying to show all the variations of normal for postpartum and motherhood."

Scroll down to meet the moms proudly showing off their postpartum bellies and battle scars in these before and after pregnancy photos!

I just cried for this woman. I felt that pain and hopelessness too. I am 20 years from there now, it was a struggle, my husband didn't understand at all and just got mad when I'd get irrationally emotional. Ladies, it does get better. Sometimes it just takes awhile. (((HUGS)))

Thank you for sharing this I was think8ng I am alone and everybody will hate me for having depression. People have treated me worse because of it and I only sink deeper and deeper sometimes my brain won't let me function with all the negative feedback I receive and which I live in. I felt like giving up but knowing I am not the only one and that there is hope makes me feel like this will pass we will live on to a better day.

Hang in there - you are not alone and it will pass. It is difficult to see the positive when your brain is in depression as it's wired to only notice negativity, but with support, medical help and time it does get better. Allow yourself the same grace and patience to recover that you would show to someone you loved. I suffered with depression for 25y (because it was undiagnosed for a very long time) and nearly gave up more times than I can count. Sometimes you literally live from breath to breath. But you keep on breathing and one day you find that you can actually see beyond that next exhalation to tomorrow, next week, even years in the future. Just keep on breathing.

This photo is beautiful and tragic at the same time. Despite her depression, she is still nursing the child. And the child needs her. She's doing her best.

I had it too. Being a mother is a shock almost nobody is prepared for and if your hormones don't cooperate it can be hell. I have been better since 2013.

I am with you. I feel this photo and know From the outside I appeared the same way, just no pics because I was alone most of time. You are wonderful and brave to expose such a real and true emotional moment. This is truth captured in a snap of a camera.

I have been there too. Begging God take me out of my misery and no longer feeling human. But it does get better. And you will feel proud of how you made in through in time. It is fine to reach out also. Most moms have been through this and will understand your pain without judgement. Love.

I think you look really good in this pic.. feel bad for the crying tho... When my ex had our daughter Maddy she was the same... Yet here you remind me of her and how much more beautiful she became to me after giving birth to our little girl.. the changes in the body were so much more sexier to me than ever .. yet when I told her this she never believed me. And when I tried to whoo her with so much more attraction to her she would cover herself up.. yet... Still so much more attractive

My partner and I have been trying for a baby for over seven years, Finally i am now a mother now, Anyone with this problem should please do contact Doctor JAMES now, he will help you too I will only advice every other woman TRYING TO GET PREGNANT or have Fallopian tube issues, pcos and other infertility problem to do their research and don’t base your option only on anyone’s advise, I did and it resulted in waste of money and time. contact Dr JAMES only WHATSAPP +2348073216638 because I have discover Dr JAMES long time ago and I would have been pregnant earlier if I follow my heart and buy the herbal herbs but I disregard it because of my doctor’s advice and I am annoyed at myself but at the same time I am happy that I made the wise decision by going back to Dr JAMES, for his herbal herbs. Now I am a strong believer of this herbal herbs natural medicine, thank you dr iboro for bringing this joy into my home am so happy...

I have an exact replica photo of myself in the same situation. I'm sorry it hit you so hard. But I'm proud of both of us, and countless others out there, for busting through to the other side. My baby just turned 18 and is about to attend college in Dublin, Ireland. (We live in WA State USA) I'm proud of her and I'm damn proud that I survived depression, the monster toddler years, and the whack job teen years too. We both turned out ok.

PLEASE Please Please keep this picture. Yes it shows you at your worst and a dark time. But it's honest and naked. You never know who in your life will need this. Can you imagine your coworker talking about how no one understands and you pulling this out with a quiet "I'm here, let it out" Or your best friend? Or your child? This picture tells such an amazing story.

I hope she never takes this picture/message down, because it will be a massive support for some and a massive eyeopener for others. Depression is hard, PPD is unthinkable if you hven’t experienced ot yourself so these ‘insights’ will help. But I would totally u derstand it if this lady would have this reminding herself of her worst. She rocks!

Child looks awfully big to be considered PPD. That's just depression from a different source.

I suggest you learn to control your ego: ask yourself how you benefit from making your point here, and why that is of any importance to you. Or: who cares what you think.

I like this text, it's honest. These bellys are not beautiful, but they are real. I'm pregnant with my first and none of my friends have got bellys looking like these after their childbirth's so I did not think it was this common and now I'm scared I will look like this. If I will look like this, I will also have trouble letting my husband touch and a look at my belly. But just as she writes in the last sentence, one should be thankful for ones mommy body.

Right after my first child was born, I was very swollen and bloated. TBH, I still looked pregnant. I was in public, and my MIL was holding my son. A stranger asked how old he was. Then she turned to me and asked when MY baby was due. I still laugh about it to this day.

The uterus is the size of a small pear but when it's housed a baby it obviously gets a lot bigger to accommodate. That's quite a size difference so it'll take as long as it takes to shrink back. Everyone is different.

I don't get these pictures of the placenta. For me, it just looks disgusting. I know, it's natural and all that and I think the placenta is a really cool and amazing thing. I mean, we pregnant women start growing a hole new organ! How cool isn't that!? But I still don't see the point in showing it of. It's a beautiful thing that enables new life, but it's in no way beautiful to look at. I mean, pooping is also natural and it's amazing how are bodies function, but we don't want to see a picture of a women with a big s**t in her lap, do we?

These celebrity moms are set up as an example of what we "should" look like postpartum. It disgusts me. How many of us have a nutritionist, personal trainer, a gym room in our home, and access to tummy tuck surgery? And how many of us have lots of idle time bc we are "between projects" and have a full time nanny to care for the baby?
