“It’s Like A Train Wreck That You Can’t Quite Look Away From”: Mom Roasts Cringy Mom Groups On Facebook

When you are a new mom or dad, joining an online parent support group can be a savior. After all, there’s just so many things you don’t know or need advice on, and luckily, there are people going through the same thing as you. Plus, you make friends!

But it turns out, not everyone is convinced by the content of these mom groups. In fact, one unknown woman explained why she insists on staying in them, by sharing this sarcastic post. “It’s like a train wreck that you can’t quite look away from,” she wrote and shared a handful of rather dumb questions and even more hilarious responses to them.

People applauded the post for being “tragically accurate,” so read it in full right below. Also, share what you think of social media groups for moms in the comments below!

Recently, someone has shared this sarcastic post from a woman who explained why she insists on staying in mom groups on Facebook

While some of the mom groups online are genuinely wonderful resources for support, advice, and interaction, others may indeed raise an eyebrow. From the anti-vax sentiments, bogus claims to mind-boggling levels of Karenesque entitlement, you can find it all in some of them.

People on Reddit have known this all along, so they created a subreddit dedicated to “Mom Group Drama.” Their description invites people to share the drama like “Essential oils cure all? Anti-vax show down? Cat fight over circumcised d****?” They claim to be “here to judge the ‘No Judge’ culture of the internet mom groups.”

But such “anti-mom group” groups may not be that innocent either. In fact, many claim they contribute to the growing trend of mom-shaming on social media. The data shows that moms clearly do feel the effect of these groups. According to a 2017 national poll of nearly 500 moms conducted by Michigan Medicine’s C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, almost two-thirds have felt mom-shamed.

Moms are not the only target. Brides are often shamed in similar groups known as wedding-shaming groups where people roast anything from decor to dress. But the whole narrative where open competition and criticism of others is present projects the insecurity and instability of the person who’s criticizing. The need to clap back at people doesn’t come from a good place, and so, for many reasons, the mom-versus-mom narrative should retire.

People found the author’s points hilarious and somewhat accurate

I personally think the worst thing to do is to discourage people from asking silly questions when they're in panic (because, you know, they're in a new situation and suddenly have a responsibility for a new, very fragile life, etc.). Maybe it's good that they ask instead of just acting stupid?

From the stories, it sounds like they are being stupid first and asking questions second.

That one guy with the misogynist comments was annoying. I can guarantee that there are dad groups who are terrible out there as well. Not just mom groups. Ive seen it

Yep, those are questions that all mothers and fathers should already know the answer to. But apparently they don't. Given the lack of knowledge about basic childcare (the marshmallow and the hair straightener), you might even argue one or two of them need external help. The question is, should anyone be making fun of them for asking? Given that if the people asking the questions see the post, they might be afraid to post their question next time, I don't think anything good can come of it. We should be helping new parents, not shaming them.

The cold uterus is an Eastern European thing. I remember sitting on concrete steps in the summer and getting lecture from an old lady in Moscow about how I would never have babies cause the concrete would send a chill to my uterus. I don't want babies so I stayed parked, but I was deeply confused.

Oh in Morocco too! Never sit down on the floor/steps or your uterus will get cold. Never barefoot, put always something on your feet... The elder women are wearing in 40°C a dress, underdress and leggings. Even their uterus is already retired, they have to keep everything warm!

I remember walking in on a young couple having sex about 13 hrs after she gave birth. I literally said "get off her!". It was consensual, but jeezus, stop having sex in the hospital!! Give your cookie a break!

I was "allowed" a whole 9 days after having my first before my now ex husband forced me into having sex, because it was just so difficult for him and I couldn't possibly understand how hard it was and what he was going through......never mind I had a 10lbs 10oz child not long pushed out of there followed by surgery as the placenta wouldn't come out - but HE was the one who was going through difficult time that I couldn't understand

My first time, the nurse came in every time with the message " just remember girls it's 2 forms of B C for the next 6 weeks cause I don't want to see ya in 10 months" then if hubby was in the room, would look at him and say " none for 6 weeks as she has stitches to the back" --yeah he was traumatized when I ripped having a 'football player with full gear" as the doctor mentioned afterwards. He was a big guy with broad shoulders.

We can all be stupid sometimes. As I was in labour I was instructing the midwife what kind of tummy button she should give my baby, she was looking at me like I was an idiot, but didn’t say anything. I didn’t realise that the cord just falls off a couple of days later and you are left with whatever happens. If you’ve not experienced something, you don’t know about it.

My aunt worked as an OB/GYN nurse for 40+ years, and wow, did she have some stories! One I will never forget is the couple who had immigrated to the U.S., and had a baby. Two hours after the delivery, she went to the new mother's room to check on her, and found the husband in the bed, going at it. Obviously my aunt was shocked & screeched at them "WTH are you doing?", and the husband explained that it was required by tradition in their native country, and that she needed to leave so he could finish. My aunt had a lot more stories, but they were even more gross than this one.

As a foreigner, I've heard other foreigners just use "This is normal where I'm from" as an excuse to do things the way they want. I've done it once to stop a post partum helper from overheating and over feeding my newborn.

The comments responding to the post are more insane than the fake satire the original person wrote. “I had sex the day after giving birth and didn’t know I was pregnant for almost eight months BLESSED” what the f**k

She might have thought she didn't lose pregnancy weight, periods often cease while breastfeeding, she didn't consider ultrasound... can happen. I know one overweight woman who didn't realize until she was 7 months pregnant- and it was her first.

Perhaps, instead of shaming her for having sex the same day she gave birth, screen her for abuse. Just because she had sex doesn't mean she wanted to.

Recently our office has had a round of babies being born. One co-worker in particular is having his first kid. He was talking during a meeting and said he was doing everything possible to be totally prepared. I said "first time parents are never prepared. You will be terrified, doubting yourself and questioning everything. Once you realize that, then you'll be prepared to face it." He looked worried, but I assured him he had plenty of help because many of our staff were either on 3rd kids, halfway through raising their kids or had kids that were now adults. He still look terrified.
