Mom Shames Plus-Size Woman For Wearing “Revealing” Clothes At The Park, She Wonders Whether She Was In The Wrong Here

No one should ever feel pressured to feel insecure and even ashamed of how they look. Sadly, the reality is often different.

Body shaming comes in all forms, whether it’s weight bias at work, a nasty critique made on social media, an article documenting celebrity weight gain, or an inappropriate comment coming from members of the public. This is a form of bullying, so why does it still find a place in our society?

This story comes from a woman nicknamed Good_Practice_8441 who shared her story on AITA, telling how she and her two friends took up exercise trying to lose weight. One day, while exercising in the park, the author said a woman approached them saying “This is a family park, as you can see.”

Turns out the entitled lady didn’t particularly like the author and friends exercising in biker shorts and a sports bra. Or rather, she didn’t like what she saw. “Okay, so if you know, why are you dressed like that?” the lady demanded with attitude and added that the author “was jiggling all over the place.”

Now that you have probably raised your eyebrow already, scroll down to see how this uncomfortable-to-read incident ended, and be sure to share your thoughts in the comments.

In recent years, body shaming has become an increasingly prevalent issue in society. Body shaming is the act of mocking or criticizing someone based on their physical appearance and it’s considered a form of bullying. This can be done in person, or through social media and other forms of communication.

A new survey revealed a whopping 60 per cent of adults have been body shamed because of their weight, hair and even the size of their feet. Meanwhile, another survey showed that over half (52 percent) people with obesity are “fat shamed” all or most of the time and 34 percent say that they, themselves, or someone they know have experienced it firsthand. Among those with obesity, that number rises to 43 percent of respondents.

It’s important to realize that body and weight shaming can have a serious impact on a person’s mental health and self-esteem. It can lead to anxiety, depression, social isolation, and other mental health disorders. In extreme cases, it can even lead to eating disorders and self-harm.

Despite the negative effects of body shaming, it continues to be a problem in our society. It’s important to be aware of the issue, and to stand up against it when you see it happening.

People expressed their overwhelming support for the author in the comments

And people wonder why overweight people have problems loosing weight via exercise when they get treated like this lady was treated. She’s doing the healthy thing for herself and exercising with her friends to loose weight and she’s the only one to get harassed and threatened with the police. Mind your own business and keep your comments about other peoples bodies to yourself

I seriously doubt the kids either noticed or cared. This 'think about the children!' malarkey is just an excuse.

So does this woman actually want children to follow her example and insult women doing exercises? And call the cops on them?? "9-1-1. What's your emergency? [...] Okay, try not to panic. We'll pull some cops from the hostage situation downtown and send them right over with housecoats and long skirts."

I've been to a few gyms where people stare at you and I feel like yelling "what do you expect me to do about it if I get shamed when I come to the gym?" Luckily I've found a nice one now, where people a friendly.

I can understand that for some people seeing an overweight body not covered very well can be uncomfortable. To me it's very uncomfortable to see ANY body scarcely clad in public. Not like I want to feel this way but I do. And as the OP pointed it out, it's a ME problem. I won't ask a lady wearing what makes for comfy to cover up, how crazy would that be?! In this case it would've been a great opportunity for mommy of the year to point the ladies out to her kids and have a chat with them about how great it is that people who realise they've gotten a bit unhealthy are getting out and do the work to get back into a healthy body. Or IF the kids even noticed them and made any negative comments she could've told them how unkind that is and reminded them that others could always find something to mock about them, and they would feel bad if they were mocked. Instead, she goes and shows the worst example.

I've battled my weight since childhood and have also "learned" to cover up, especially when working out. I don't wear shorts and only recently began wearing leggings. Anytime I see someone of larger size exercising, in my head I think, "You get it girl or guy, great job" It takes an extreme amount of courage to go out amongst your peers and exercise. Please don't discourage this by inserting your opinion when it is neither asked for or needed. You might just stop someone from getting healthier and changing their life when they were on the right track. Can we start building people up instead of tearing them down? In some states (including mine) it's perfectly legal for anyone to be shirtless (i,e, nothing at all above the waist) in public spaces. Whats-her-name would have to take her kids home, ensuring another generation of people with ill-founded body beliefs.

Definitely not about weight but about revealing clothing when performing exercises that show a lot more than when simply walking around. Clothing and behaviour that would not be acceptable by a male for that matter - and then the offender pulls the FAT card, and is surprised that doesn't work. Entitlement behaviour. S you, S your kids, S everyone else, the world is all about me...

Good day Everyone, I know this post may not be related with this, but for those who care, this is a testimony on how i got my Loan. Its painful to come online and see people complaining of loan scams, The reason for you all falling victim is simply because you want everything done freely, and secondly you keep believing loan company that operate with Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo Domains, those are scams, that is the reason they are using free Domains, Including WhatsApp. A legit loan lender, you apply online. Allow me share with you Standard Finance Corporation one of the best i have come across. I got $400,000.00 from them within 24hours. You can contact Standard Finance via the below website and apply online Website: www.standardfinancecorporation.com OR Email: standardbankfinancialgroup@accountant.com

So, she is perfect? Does she wear a bikini when going to the beach? Where there are CHILDREN?! Some people must just keep their mouths shut. I am sooooo tired of people bodyshaming others. I am also overweight and i am working on it (health issues that made me overweight) so I am strigling to loose weight. Ive lost 50 pounds the past yearand still going strong. Please do not listen to her. She is just jealous because you are doing something to look and feel good. Maybe she is "pretty" from outside but she is rotten on the inside. Ynta

Seriously fuuuuck that woman. I would have BEGGED her to call the cops. PLEEEASE waste their time and get fined for it, I f*****g dare you. These kinds of people deserve to be knocked flat on the ground while everyone around them pretends they didn't see anything.

Is this a thing in the US? Calling the police because someone is wearing revealing clothing? Like, are there times when this would be an appropriate use of the police?
