The argument "we did it 200 years ago" is beyond stupid. We did slavery 200 years ago. Everything else you stated didn't answer anything. That's séx - the objective biological fact, not gender - the human construct that is entirely subjective (your words, not mine). "Can you give any reason why bathrooms by gender is a problem?" Yes. Because women and girls who are survivors of rápe, séxual and/or physical abúse at the hands of men need spaces free from male bodies at times when they are most vulnerable: using toilets, getting undressed, showering, etc. There is nothing imaginary about it.

Nobody is punishing men by keeping them out of women's spaces. Forcing women and girls to accept men into their spaces IS punishing half the human population to appease the feelings of men who claim to believe they're women.

In case you haven't heard the people who are assaulted in these multi-stall public restrooms are cis women with short hair and trans women but not trans men. This isn't a solution, it's biased discrimination. That little sign does not "protect" anyone. Clothes can be ripped off, they don't make someone vulnerable because they have their pants undone on the toilet any more than it makes ANY HUMAN vulnerable. Once again; sexism and projection, not protection.

So because some men disregard the legal obligation to stay out of women's single-séx spaces, your solution is to open them up to everybody? Why stop there? By your logic, as people commit all manner of crimes regardless of the laws prohibiting them, why not just decriminalise everything that is currently illegal?

It isn't a legal obligation, it's sanctioned s*x based discrimination. Do y'all have public accommodation/anti-discrimination laws over there? We do in the US, and this little thing called the equal protection clause. And no, my suggestion (which I mentioned in a previous comment above) is that everyone deserves a private space, not these huge multi-stall rooms which seem to be the source of the actual problem: a simple lack of privacy coupled with sexist biases.

Providing single-séx spaces for the bodily safety, comfort and dignity of women is what is known as 'positive discrimination'. It is done for perfectly valid reasons, so please stop pretending to not know that simple fact.

Given your comment above about Nova, do you expect a witty reply? Given you are knowingly ignoring Nova's point and making a very insulting comment towards Nova, do you to think you deserve any better than Nova's response? Quite frankly Nova's reply was more gentle than you deserve.

One more thing - try asking him to clarify or justify something he posts. How he responds (if at all) will tell you a lot.

I will not pretend that I have seen every interaction between AA and Nova, what I will say is that most of the time it is AA commenting on Nova's posts with some irrelevant nonsense. Nova? I think AA is in love with you and just cannot admit it to themselves.

I asked a simple question, and he has responded with aggression, deflection, projection, and belittling insults - as well as accusing others of doing exactly what he does. If he'd just responded to my question with a polite, sensible answer, we'd have been fine. That response showed his true colours - he cannot handle having his views questioned or criticised. Good. What I've shown is that people need to be treated respectfully, and I will deal with the miscreants accordingly if they aren't. I'm not the only one who he's shown this sort of disdain to, and in all the cases I've seen, he causes the first problem. Anyway, rest assured, it's all done with now; the mods have removed his comment, which perhaps says what they think about how conversations should be conducted here. Hopefully we can all move on with a respectful intellectual discourse - that is certainly my intention.

And of course you can claim that trans people are not at all dangerous when, as soon as a trans person proves to be a danger - 'Alexis Black', for example - you simply declare that they were actually never trans at all and Hey Presto, the trans record is unblemished and the myth that all trans people are harmless can be perpetuated.
