Woman Shares All The Crimes She’s Committed Despite Having No Criminal Record To Illustrate White Privilege
Krista Vernoff is a TV screenwriter, showrunner, executive producer and director, best known for running the medical drama Grey’s Anatomy. She’s also white. Which, according to Vernoff herself, has been her the most important mitigating circumstance every time she got herself into trouble.
So, to make a case for defunding the police, Vernoff tweeted all the times she escaped consequences due to her race. From drunk driving and stealing thousands of dollars worth of goods to beating people up, the woman shared it all and even inspired other people to do the same.

Vernoff said she was inspired to share the stories after learning about the fatal shooting of Rayshard Brooks, who was shot during a struggle with Atlanta police after he was found sleeping in his car in the drive-thru lane of a Wendy’s.
Vernoff talking about white privilege would probably strike a chord with Frances E. Kendall, Ph.D. , a consultant for organizational change specializing in issues of diversity and white privilege. Kendall thinks this subject is extremely difficult for white folks to discuss because many of them don’t feel powerful or as if they have privileges others do not. “It is sort of like asking fish to notice water or birds to discuss air,” Kendall wrote. “For those who have privileges based on race or gender or class or physical ability or sexual orientation or age, it just is – it’s normal.”
Kendall thinks white people can — and should — try to engage in conversations about their privilege more often. “While people of color understand the necessity of being able to read the white system, those of us who are white are able to live out our lives knowing very little of the experiences of people of color. Understanding racism or whiteness is often an intellectual exercise for us, something we can work at for a period of time and then move on, rather than its being central to our survival.”
So, our dear readers, let’s do just that; let’s discuss white privilege in the comments. We are eagerly awaiting your thoughts on the subject.

While I understand the point this woman is making, she also sounds like a not so good person. I've never had any interaction with cops except for traffic stops (and visiting someone in prison). I don't punch strangers or steal thousands or drive drunk or do drugs. Her stories turn my stomach because of her flagrant disregard for other people.
Ikr? It's almost like those are normal choices instead of really crappy ones. I've never done anything like that either. Punching people and drink driving? Ugh. Okay, so she's turned her life around and hopefully making MUCH better choices. A black person is highly unlikely to have had the same chances she has had. She's been very privileged.
That is exactly her point!!! She knows her behavior wasn't right but she survived and got away with it because of her privilege. Young adults and teenagers make risky choices, many middle class white (not poor whites) are able to get away with having a troubled youth and get a second chance or no consequences. While blacks dont have that ability and what's more often time are harmed or killed when doing nothing unlawful.
"She's been very privileged." - Good lord, that's exactly the point!!

imagine the tweet she put after losing her privileged lol
Yeah, but that's the thing, right? She's done so much shit in her life that would have earned her a conviction of SOMETHING but she doesn't have any. Everyone was convinced that she wasn't doing anything worth ruining her life for, but others with darker skin or maybe less-fortunate genes would not have gotten the same chances.
Marlowe. Yes! And that's exactly why she wrote this. She's privileged and she she knows it now. She wrote it to show what our white privilege looks like.
Most of these seemed to happen when she was in her teens and very early twenties, when many of have no common sense. The only way it would make her a bad person is if she continued this behavior well into adulthood. Just shows another disparity between those with and without privilege. I have worked with a lot of POC in their mid twenties who had records for way less than what she was allowed to get away with.
Sure, I did stupid things in my teens. I think (and hope) everyone does. But never at this level. Though I know several white women who did a fraction of what she did and do have records. I guess it is the luck if the draw, which is NOT how the law should work.
And her point is, she was NEVER arrested, detained, charged or convicted for any of those offenses, whereas we know that black people have been shot point blank for less. This is her whole point!!!!!
I thought it were several people responding to the thread she started. Different people including herself
It was, but she said she did all those things the comment says.
You're completely missing the point.
She didn't. She just added further points.

Y'all are missing the point so fucking hard.

The human brain is not full developed till you are in your mid 20s. Teenagers and young adults don't have the decision making capabilities or the ability to understand consequences adults do. She is not a bad person. Much of this is stupid teen stuff. Her point is that being white means she doesn't have a criminal record for this where a no white person certainly would
She stole thousands of dollars worth of stuff! She drove drunk! She could have killed people! Not a bad person?!?! Bullsh*t
I'm 13 but I understand why all these are bad, I thought that she would go to jail for years for a lot of these.
Even tiny children know the rules that stealing in wrong, and you don't hit people! You are just trying to excuse her behavior, that that is part of the problem!
Female privilege, not white privilege. And apparent lack of parental guidance. She's almost bragging about it.
Or both? Pretty disgusting that she got away with so much. Particularly the drink driving - that can and does kill. I knew a little boy who was killed by a drunk driver so I have a very low tolerance of anyone getting away with that. I've never been stopped by the police for any reason but I don't need to be to see that there is a massive problem with the disparity in the treatment of black and white people. It needs to be dealt with. No-one running any police forces seem to be taking responsibility for that and they should be.

It is white privilege. If she was black she'd either be dead or in prison. And there's no such thing as female privilege
But it happens to white guys too- rapes, drinking etc. They get away with it and things are getting swept under the carpet..
Also- it's not just ;lack of parental guidance. My brother stole from family, others, robbed shops and I tell you now- NO ONE taught him or allowed him to do it. Some people just do it.
I suppose there needs to be some type of compensation for when creepy cops use car plate numbers to hit you up and let you know how hooooot you are. Eeeewww!
It’s both. If she was a black woman do you think she would have gotten away with so much?
R L: EXACTLY. And not just 'female' privilege, but "blonde, pretty female' privilege. It has already been scientifically proven that "beautiful" people get "passes" from their horrible behavior from most people, especially members of the opposite sex. Women who are blonde and pretty in the USA get away with all sorts of horrible shit, and guys usually just chuckle at them and say things like "I'd hit that". Ugly women such as myself get zero passes for the most minor infractions, and we've never been able to "look pretty" and get out of a speeding ticket.
I agree
It's white privilege.
Agreed. I had a friend (beautiful girl, 1/2Jamacian 1/2Asian) Never got a ticket... even when caught speeding without her drivers license. She'd just burst into tears and voilà no ticket. Last time I was pulled for speeding I was pulled from the car, thrown against the trunk, yelled at, spit on (maybe unintentional), and held for an hour.... and I have a clean record.
The standards of the cops are a massive problem if they think being a bully is part of the remit. Doesn't take away from the central point being made though - black people are disproportionately badly treated. Were you actually done for speeding? What do you think would have happened if you had been a black man? Doubt that they'd have been let off. I'm assuming that you are a white man from what you have written - apologies if that's not the case.
Liam. No worries. You are correct. Its hard for me to image being treated worse. Not all cops are racist and not all of them are bullies, but I don't think there's a nickel's worth of difference between the two... although I'm sure some are both.
@blugeagua yes actually there is, people think that men commit more crimes then women, but it's not true it's a 50/50 you're gender doesn't predict if you're gonna grow up to be a criminal or not.

No its white privilege. And she's not bragging about it, she's making a point that she got away with it because of her race. If she was black she would either be in jail or killed. And female privilege isn't a thing.
Female privilege is a thing, but can also be a heavy burden. There's many pros and cons to it. Sure sometimes tears can get you out of a ticket, but other times simply being female invites harassment from police. Believe me, being sexually harassed by a police officer happens more than is ever reported! (That's another topic for another post)
Yes it is. It is very different from male privileged. It does not negate it or bear weighing the two in some kind of scale against each other. But you can find lists of things that are much easier as a woman written by trans-men who did not appreciate the advantages they had until they lost them. But to restrict it to just the subject of this discussion, women who commit the same crimes as men are less likely to be arrested, less likely to be charged, less likely to be convicted, are more likely to be granted plea bargains, and if convicted, typically face shorter sentences. The exception to this is crimes against children, where women face longer sentences.
Privilege isn't limited to race. If she where male (or and race) she would have been convicted for many of those crimes.
A bit off-topic, but seeing what people say on various sites and articles on the matter, I have to say it. I think, rather than one group being privileged, it's more like the other group was denied basic human rights. It doesn't make the situation any better, but at least it shifts the focus onto empathy, instead of generating hateful over-analysis and competitions to who's more miserable. Language does matter, it really affects people's thoughts. (And I say this as someone legally qualified in linguistics, not as some random "angry Karen")
You make a good point. I find it very insightful. Unfortunately, privilege does figure in a lot, not just police, but in education, pay , healthcare, the legal system as a whole, etc. and while it's common across the board that those in lower economic groups to face these disparities, when you add in color, ethnicity, gender, etc. it's even more obvious and widespread
Being an ethnical minority myself, I confirm this to be true as well.
It’s true that the main issue is black people being denied their rights, but what’s described here in these specific instances is flat out special treatment.
And, indeed, I started with "a bit off topic (...)". ^_-
As someone who enjoys being a pedant, your distinction doesn't seem to diffrentiate things much. If anything, using your language, the solution would appear to be not to treat those with less privilege better (i.e shifting the focus to empathy*), but to stop being so forgiving to those who are benefiting from the privilege differential. -(*Which, however you look at things, I think we can probably agree that more empathy is indeed the solution, or at least a start to it)
This comment has been deleted.
Why has my comment been deleted? I pointed out that because it's only white people that are getting those human rights it's called privilege, because if white people got the same treatment as black people it would be considered normal, despite how horrible it is.
I'm a white woman and I've been arrested and charged for shoplifting and drunk driving. I was assaulted by a cop in the elevator at the police station by a cop that wasn't my arresting officer. My arresting officer was there and did nothing. Every time I've gotten pulled over I've gotten a ticket. I'm not saying that privilege doesn't exist, but that it isn't consistent.
Sure! I went to jail and have a lot of tickets. But the ones where I SHOULD have been to jail, or gotten a ticket I did not. And it was because of my skin color in SC. Florida too.

Oh really. Did the cop say, "because you're White"?
Anecdotal evidence is not evidence of a prevailing truth.
I never had problems with police, but also my biggest crime is probablly bad crossing. But I know few people from USA who had been hold on gun-point for things like "not having driving licence and registration in sunshield above head, but in glovebox (that white-middle age university teacher just turned to right and when he turned back, he was looking in gun).
Ask and wait for permission to get credentials. When you just start reaching the officer is going to assume the worst no matter what color you are.
This comment is hidden. Click here to view.
First off it is illegal to drive without a license. Second without id the cops have no idea who this man is and needed to check him for outstanding warrents etc
In some countries you don't need to have the license actually on you - if you are stopped by the police in the UK you are given a number of days in which to report to a police station with your licence for verification. Though Simon's point is the location in the car rather than not having one at all.
Reread what he says! Šimon Špaček says "not having driving licence and registration in sunshield above head, but in glovebox", so you going off about not having license and ID is totally beside the point.
She is asking white people to think about the crimes they've committed? How about none. I never did any of those stuff she did. And instead of wanting everybody to get away with what she is getting away with, she should not get away with it either!! Drunk driving should have consequences regardless of your skin colour. So not just a warning or being shot to death, but a decent punishment for everybody who breaks the rules.

This comment makes no sense. Drunk driving didn't really become a big deal until the early 2000s before that it was rarely discussed. There were laws but they weren't enforced as they are now or the last 20 years I know this bc I lived through these decades and in the 80s and up to mid 90s the laws weren't as strict. People drove drunk and it was acceptable
I grew up the same time. It wasn’t that drunk driving was accepted. People drove drunk back then and still killed people. It’s that the laws became stricter like having a blood alcohol limit and requiring breathalyzers. It became easier to charge the drunk drivers. It’s always a big deal when people are getting killed and it can be prevented!
Michelle Geiger. There literally were not laws about drunk driving unless you caused an accident. It did not become a crime to drive drunk until very late 80s and even then it wasn't enforced until you had an accident. Of course I do not want anyone to drive drunk and it is a crime.
I was attacked by a group of about 30 kids from my school when I was a teen. Only one of the group was black. Reported it to school and police. Guess how many students were punished by the school? Guess who the police chose to talk to in person? That's right. One: the black girl. Everyone else got away with it, and it wasn't an isolated incident. White privilege is real.
I don't doubt the point you're trying to make, I've seen it happen a lot. The part of your story I do doubt is that you were attacked by 30 people and not only survived, but didn't suffer any traumatic brain damage. 30 on one isn't just a lot, it's deadly.
From the context of Charlotte's story it seems safe to assume that not all 30 of the kids were physically attacking her - I'm guessing most were just cheering the others on. We have no idea what the extent of her injuries were, but having gone to high school in the US this sounds entirely plausible to me. I doubly appreciate that in a story where she was inarguably the victim she still recognizes the further victimization of her black classmate. I'm sorry you had to go through that Charlotte, even sadder that most of the perpetrators continued to get away with it.
What the hell has happened that all 30 attacked you? Honestly asking because I cannot imagine one scenario where a whole class of kids turning against only one, unless you killed Santa or something.
This is not just a problem in the US, unfortunately. When I lived in Netherlands, where you are required to carry your ID at all times, my french/african friend was arrested for forgetting his residence card and held by the police for seven days. He lost his job and apartment and was only released after getting the consulate involved. He was a legal resident and not committing or suspected of any crimes when the cops approached him for his ID. I (white female expat) was not asked for my ID by police once in ten years of living there, and all stories I've heard about white expats being found without ID involved them being allowed to call a friend to retrieve it (my friend could have done this but wasn't allowed).
All this proves to me is that Krista Vernoff is a fucking asshole!
Or was. Let's hope she's a better person now. Being a TV screenwriter, showrunner, executive producer and director isn't proof of improvement, but it sounds as if she's at least stopped attacking people at parties.
Where as you sound like you must be fun at parties.
Thank you to the woman who posted this. I've been wondering why there are so many racists, and just general stupidity on Bored Panda for awhile now. I guess it's as simple as because it's tolerated here. Racism is everywhere in America. You can't get away from it. It's the perfect combination of idiocy and evil. I bet this post will be deleted, or invisible soon because of all the down votes. Racists hate being called racists. Keep fighting the good fight good people. I've just got to add something for the especially intellectually challenged folks. You can stop pointing out that she wouldn't have been involved with the police at all if she weren't a criminal. That is obvious to the very stupidest reader. That is not the point of her post. The point is that the police let her off, despite her being a criminal, because she is white. That is white privilege. Do you not get it? Really?!
100% agreement. Like they are missing the WHOLE point of the post and only focusing on the same opinions they give day in and say out. People! She knows shes wrong that's part of the post. smdh
I agree with you. I was just going to post the same thing.
I'm having trouble seeing the forest for the tree. She is a immature, self-centered person which makes it harder to focus on her valid point.
Or was that person. At least she is using her dodgy past to make an important point now. People can change and learn to be better.
You are focusing on the messenger instead of the message.
Counterpoint: Her point is quite simple, valid and perfectly clear.
A man broke into my house this morning while my son was home alone. I called the police. They got to my house and stayed with him until I got home, and I have never been more thankful for else enforcement
I'm glad your son is ok. I'm so glad they stayed with your son. How terrifying!!! Yes, the police have an important place in society... but, we still need change, and to recognize the need for that change.
my only "mistake" in my life was to CYCLE in a One-way street, and I got caught. I was 12, and was taken to the police station to pay the fine. I am a white person living in Europe. Looking at your mistakes, I wished my mistake would also have been tolerated.
Wow, harsh! Which country were you in?
Holy shit the judgement in these comments. She's airing out her skeletons, how can people not see this? She's not bragging, she's raising attention to the shit that's going on. People who looked at this post and saw HER totally missed the fucking point. If that makes any sense.
That's because she never says "I am sorry. I was an asshole". She just wants others to get away with the same things. She should have gotten a criminal record.
She has a good reason and it does kind of support blm, but I am disgusted of what she did. Cops should NOT have let her get away with that much.
Is that thing about Dylann Roof true? And the story about the police trying to convince a teenager to say the weed is his (Mexican) friends. US, you have serious problems over there! And until now everyone thought this is normal and a good way of living? You are worst than Nazi Germany was!
The Dylan Roof anecdote above is a bit confusing. It is true that the police bought him a meal. By the way, I really don't recommend the comparison with Nazi Germany as some people might think that you're saying that mass murder of Jews, Roma, gay men, Slavs, the disabled, etc. is not as bad as police brutality. Otherwise, I'm totally in agreement with you that the inequities are horrible. The black girl getting jail while the white girls got probation was a clear-cut case of racism.
Complete agreement. While US with its disparity between black and white, rich and poor is undoubtedly in need of a serious re-design, it's NOT at the level of murdering people just because of their existence with the clear goal of wiping them and everyone like them from the planet entirely.
Judging by available information he was bought a burger as the police have a duty to feed him but it looks like it was a burger purchased and taken back to the police station rather than Dylann Roof being taken to burger king. https://www.snopes.com/news/2015/06/22/dylann-roof-burger-king/

Huh this probably is the most ignorant thing i ever read
I'm a interested in what you mean by your comment. Do you mean "most ignorant" in "Girl, you are white and you don't know you really have to go totally mental before the cops will even consider arresting you?" or "most ignorant" in " I am amazed why you are making an issue out of this because that's how the US police works. So what?"

Lol love it
She does have a point tho I had a troubled youth with let's say numerous substance abuse issues when I got caught with drugs ( and I mean hard drugs) I would get them taken away and escorted home and when friend's of mine who were Latin or black got caught it was straight to the detention center I'm ashamed to say I actually never thought of it that way or made the connection until I saw this article no matter the personal feelings towards this lady it does ask a little reflection from us and that never hurts
As for the new mexico guy that got shot, he deserved it. Don't mob chase and threaten to kill somebody.
me and my fiance were pulled over because he went over the divider into the hov so we could get out of traffic. wen the cop ask for his liscense and stuff wen he came back he gave my fiance his liscense back and said just go on and try not to do it again. he gave no ticket just let us go and said he had somewhere else to b. my friend who is black switched lanes without a blinker and got a ticket for wreckless driving...she was going 25mph on a 20mph street. that right there shows u the difference in how cops treat ppl. i later found out she was excused from the ticket bc they thought it was ridiculous but still we get let go for something thats actually wrong and ur not supposed to do while my friend who is black gets a ticket for no reason at all. to this day i wonder wat would have happened if she told him her brother in law who is black worked for the same department the cop who pulled her over worked for lol
Nobody gets a ticket for failure to signal a turn, unless it's while committing a secondary illegal act or causing an accident. I'm not saying I don't believe you, but I don't believe your friend. Regardless of color, that doesn't happen because as a stand alone offense you can't be ticketed for it.
Depends on the country, and then it depends on the cop's mood.
Yes, cops will use any excuse possible, even made up excuses, to pull someone over... it's a proven fact. It's happened to my kids, my friends, my family. I understand that you may have a hard time believing it, but I've seen it with my own eyes.
She seems way to proud about being white trash
Me no crime commit except jaywalk.
That's not a crime.
Actually 2 black teens were arrested in Tulsa last week for jaywalking.
The bull shit and white guilt is deep on here look at the real facts and the real numbers on deaths and colour by cops look it up facts people
I too understand the point of this thread. But all I'll say is, I'm a white female and literally have never got a slap on the wrist or a go ahead and get home dear. Literally went to jail 98% of the times I've been pulled over or I received a giant ticket for going 45 in a 40 when I honestly did not know the area. From having weed on me to a state trooper swearing I "sped up" as he put his lights on. (I didn't ) so while it may happen to most, it's not all. And there's definitely 2 sides to every pancake ;)
I didn't break laws by being a drunken shoplifter. Funny the police left me alone!
Damn. I've gotten 2 tickets for running stop signs, once while I was crying so hard from being suddenly fired that I didn't see it, and once when my brakes failed on a steep hill. Once when I was 10 I jaywalked and a cop explained it was illegal and let me go. Other than that... I've kept my nose clean, I guess.
usa is fucked up if jaywalking is a crime there.
I think what's more important to consider is what a turd this gal was/maybe still is.
Is there a statute of limitations for being a raging a**hole?
Apparently not, lol!
This is sickening. Thank you to the contributors for sharing.
RICH White girl for sure. I’m white and I have to seriously watch myself and ass kiss every police officer I’ve ever dealt with. I mind my mouth, keep my hands on view and work HARD to de-escalate anything during the interaction. I’ve also been arrested for being too compliant and charged because I chose not to get a solicitor, I hadn’t committed the crime and still got it twisted on me. We have a Rich/Poor divide where I come from. Sick of Rich white people apologising for ‘my’ privilege.
Or beautiful. Beautiful girls are the ones that get passes, not ugly ones such as myself. I've had zero privileges due to the way I look.
How is this even possible; I rented and forgot to return a vcr tape ( yes I'm old) A yr later I was extradited, left in jail for a week over thanksgiving, and find 800$ and given the title of felony theft For a damn movie that sucked
Damn!!!
There’s also a difference in having a visible weapon and not touching it, and properly responding to the commands of the police officer.
100 arrests before 30-knocks 93 year old woman down-Someone's WAY more privileged than you are
EXACTLY. It's funny how the press doesn't report that story. The same thing happened a few days later...some animal knocked down an 80 year old guy and tried to steal his back-pack. Same city. Could have been the same guy even.
Oh. And I would call this being a narcissistic twat. No matter her color.
Ugh! Why are you giving her the kind of publicity Bored Panda?! There are so many GOOD people who have stories! I'm losing my faith here...
You don't understand the thread at all. I'm so sorry this conversation makes you so uncomfortable please feel free to stay in your cushioned little white privilege bubble. No one wants to hear mediocre opinions from people w no imaginations anymore
She's lucky it's not a crime to be annoying because she would still be guilty
Ive been pulled over by cops when I did things that I shouldnt have been doing
This is female privilege not white privilege. White men don't get away with any of that.
This is white *female* privilege. It’s astounding to me that neither she nor the author of this article put that together.
This comment has been deleted.
Funny how none of these people can provide of their so-called "white privilege" crimes they got away with, alsmost as if they are making shit up
When I was 14 I took my moms car out for a joy ride. No license or learners. I got into an accident that was my fault by t-boning a car. There was a cop right behind me. She pulled up behind me, did the whole report thing and took me home to my mom. I was put on 6 months probation. At 16, I was caught stealing cigs from a grocery store. The store owner and cops allowed me to call my dad to pick me up. Went back to court and got put on another 6 months probation that didnt last the whole 6 months. I honestly only remember going to see my PO a few times.
Women have special privileges. Especially attractive women. Ask your ugly friend....
So she is an idiot. Hardly screams white privilege. Next......
I'm honestly shocked at how many in the comments are being intentionally obtuse, completely unwilling to even try and see the point that's being made here. Did the OP do some pretty reprehensible stuff? Yes! The point however is not that she shouldn't have escaped any kind of negative consequence, it's that she didn't! Hence, she is - or least should be - a glaring example of white privilege. It's not that complicated.
*female* privilege.
There are going to be thousands of stories like this. When are we going to realize these are not the exception, but the rule for people of color?
It's not white privilege tho is it... It's having tits privilege... A white guy never would of got away with this stuff..
Hahaha. The posted comments to the article could be taken straight out of the book White Fragility.
The article shows testimonies of those willing to be honest and vulnerable. Many of the posted comments seem to lack empathy and appear to assign blame...a very common deflection response. Opportunity missed.
The bull shit and white guilt is deep on here lol
First, it's incredible that Krista Vernoff turned out okay considering all the CRIMES she committed, including VIOLENT crimes. That said, following is a true event that reinforces the fact of racism. In December, 1983, a jewelry store in Santa Barbara was robbed. The Harlem Globetrotters happened to be in town, and 3 of them were on State Street (a main street, which runs through downtown with retail stores and restaurants). They left a jewelry store about a half-hour after the other jewelry store was robbed. They were waiting for a cab when they were surrounded by police, who pulled their guns and made them get on the ground, then handcuffed. The only thing in common the Harlem Globetrotters had with the suspects is that they were black, and they were wearing athletic warmup suits. If nothing else, consider how tall basketball players are; that difference alone (the real criminals weren't nearly as tall) should have made the police realize they couldn't be the criminals.
White privilege is a myth. Don’t owe black people anything
and if it helps im from long island new york
I agree there is such a thing as "white privilege" but it is not a problem to the extent as to rioting and defunding the police. It's young people who had stupid parents not raise them to respect any and all people regardless of color. Me, yes I consider myself lucky and blessed that my parents taught me to respect others. Color was not even in the equation. I consider everyone created equal no matter the color of their skin. God created man in His like image. It doesn't say anything about color!! ps, defunding the police is the most stupidest thing I've ever heard. Don't worry about everybody else you just worry about you and how you treat others.
Ew Carmen Davis u are one gross ass racist person. Educate yourself so ignorant. White privilege just dripping off you. But go ahead only worry about yourself. The apathy is appalling along w the ignorance. No one is safe until we all are!
she met cops with brains in theirs pants...how many whites males got shot or beat up ? none existent ?
I was taken to the station once after a stop, because I had an out headlight, for a bounced check 15 years prior. I didn't even know about it! The cop let me drive behind him to the station with another cop following me and sit with them at their desks. Though it was not a dangerous situation, I believe my skin color is what allowed that. I'm embarrassed to say, I have never thought of it before this thread.
I got charged and arrested with a felony over violence... My bail was $50,000. The interrogation officer & judge said my case was BS and I was set free and didn't even have to go to court. My record says arrested for "suspicion" and found innocent. 20 hours in booking and 6 hours behind bars.. What a waste of time. Lol. .. Worst thing is they ignored medical treatment for my broken finger I got about 5 mins prior to arrest. No pain meds .. Nothing.
Boy I think I've been living one heck of a boring life. I've never been stopped by cops, never had a ticket and never been in any kind of troubles. I'm missing out lol. She sounds like a crazy woman. I wouldn't want to be her. Who the heck did all the things that she did?
I don't know much about the police in the America except what was said in the internet, but I wonder if ALL your police were allowed to carry hand gun everywhere and anytime? where I'm from, they were only armed with baton but even that was quite rare. we fear the police as well but more like a stern dad/principal figure that you can't joke around with.
'Cause guns are legal over there and probably not where you live? So it's a gamble if a person might be carrying? Our police have guns and guns are not allowed for your 'personal' protection in my country. A baton is illegal to have on you as well. You are allowed to use your body parts to fight off an assailant! Cool!
They have their service revolvers on them at all times and full riot gear along w deadly weapons that they very often use on peaceful protesters and then they blame the protestors or the person they want to arrest for escalation/resisting. Their word in court is taken as the truth even w camera evidence. Our system is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty but in reality it's guilty until proven innocent
Now I know why Fiona Gallagher is so fucked up in Shameless (Krista is a writer and producer for the show)
Mostly it is based on the original British series. She may have added aspects of her life story but it is quite close to the original concept.
Fucking disgusting woman!
The Brooks shooting was 100% justified. He was driving drunk, resisted arrest, punched a cop, stole a lethal-force weapon, AND he fired it at the cops while trying to escape.
You didn't watch the video and you didn't bother to read what happened. Completely ignorant. It was MURDER! This is this cops second time he shot a black man in the back!!! In the back!! In the back!!! If those fat ass cops can't get handcuffs on a drunk man they should not be cops!! There was 2 of them and they shot him in the back!! His partner is testifying against the shooter! It was murder!! Not to even mention all the other black peoples murdered while unarmed over non offenses
A taser isn't considered lethal-force. There have been many a people that have punched, slapped and spit on cops that have lived to tell the story as recently as last week, however they aren't black. Shooting someone in the back is never justified. If firing a taser at a cop is a sign of deadly force then cops should start carrying 2 guns because that is what you are equating it to. Shooting someone in the back has always been a sign of cowardice. They had his car, his identifying information so they could have arrested him. BTW, didn't they shoot an innocent motorist's vehicle? There was a parking lot full of people when the officer decided to discharge his firearm. Mr. Brooks was not a physical threat to anyone at the time of his death, the police had his info and could have arrested him later. Please don't forget that they didn't render aid until 2 minutes later, kicked him to look for casings and stood on his shoulder all while he laid there dying. They are suppose to render immediate aid and call for medical right after a shooting, not wait until they got their story straight. But sure side with the officers who shot a man in the back over a verified taser!
All I get from this is that this is maybe not the best person from which to take advice.
It really cracks me up with all these white dudes complaining that it's "female privilege". If female privilege was a thing then women would be the dominant gender. But we're not, we're still seen as less than compared to men. We're not equal either yet sadly. White men want to be oppressed so badly when they are the ones who society completely caters to. No, what this woman has is WHITE privilege. If she was black she would have been shot or still in prison because of her crimes. And honestly she deserves to be in jail for all the crap she's done. But that's not the point of this.
Okay... Generally speaking you are right. Women have been and are, held back and considered lesser in comparison to men in many areas of life. However, I think it is disingenous to pretend that some women aren't let off certain infractions in a way that a man rarely is. If you think about it is because we're seen as the 'little woman' who needs protection. The macho cop lets us off so we don't have to worry our 'pretty little heads'. They are showing their male privilege 'look at the power I have to make your problems go away'. Of course it mostly happens to the prettier women so it is more 'Attractive Female Privilege'. I appreciate that female privilege is a strange term when there is still discrimination against women and I personally don't like women who play up being helpless in order to try and get their own way. Doesn't make it less of a fact though.
K Witmer - Yes, of course it's sexism but there are women who benefit in this way and that's a fact. It puzzles me that some men get irritated with women over it when it's men who are responsible for it happening. All that said I don't think that is what was going with this woman. I agree that it IS white privilege at work. I merely provided the explanation as there are some people banging on about so-called female privilege and it needs recognising for what it is. It shouldn't be what the conversation is here. I wanted to shove it into a corner and hope it would stop being a focus when it was not the point that the original post was meant to be about.
That's not female privilege that's straight up sexism
I'm a woman and yes, it totally is female privilege. Other examples of female privilege are never needing to worry if the offspring is hers (while it's estimated 8-12% men unknowingly raise another man's kid), existence of female-only scholarships and workshops, extra points when applying to schools, getting away with statutory rape (look at stories of female teacher sleeping with male student vs male teacher sleeping with female student) etc.
OOOH look at me I'm a douche bag and got away with it. So let's defund the police. What an idiot. I'm not saying what's been happening was right, but I also know that said person just got out of prison for some pretty violent crap and was getting picked up again on a WARRANT so if you've already been down for rape, murder, armed robbery or some other violent crime (not sure what his was just an example) AND you go for an officers weapon less than lethal or otherwise, AND you attempt to use said weapon on the officer, AND you flee..... well play stupid games, win stupid prizes. This idiots rant means nothing other than she's just as big of a POS, just a free one. You know who this nation should be crying and protesting over? Breonna Taylor. SHE was wrongfully killed. She is whom I shed tears for. She was an innocent EMT that did nothing wrong but go to bed that night. Not condoning the rest, just making a point.
Wow so cops should be judge jury and executioner now? I agree if someone has a weapon and comes after someone that's self defense but unarmed black people being shot in the back or while they're handcuffed or while your sitting on their neck is straight up murder and as for priors that has nothing to do w being murdered. This is an old racist argument that's been going on for 100s of years and you've been conditioned to repeat it bc you are ignorant and have chosen not to read anything that doesn't agree w your antiquated racist views
This person clearly is not from Eaatern Europe
When did she say she was?
I've never been let go. So you want a pat on the back?
Difference between Canada and the USA: Crimes are determined by the crimes YOU DID.. Not by the color of your skin.. When I was 23, I was in South Central Los Angeles (about 30 years ago), trying to score some weed from an undercover cop. I was escorted to a police station (no handcuffs), I was taken to my Father's house (Lower Beverly Hills) and told not to do it again. *I AM WHITE*
With respect? Tell that "crimes by what you did" to the *indigenous* woman shot in her home by RCMP? (I read the news for Canada. Glass houses.)
She was brandishing a knife by the looks of things, fair point. What I don't understand is why it ends up with 5 shots instead of 1 or 2? It always seems excessive no matter which country these things happen in. I know they can't all be marksmen but shouldn't they have some skill with aiming a gun if being allowed to carry one? They are trained aren't they? What's wrong with aiming to take someone down instead of almost emptying a gun into them? Just queries - no criticism. EDIT: Sorry just realised I replied to the wrong comment.
@Rosie Hamilton The Police are trained to fire multiple shots, as 1 or 2 shots might not always stop at person. They dont know what drugs the person might be on.. EXAMPLE: A person on Meth can sustain multiple shots, and still not die, and still be combative.
@Leo Domitrix Why was she banishing a knife, and threatening the police?? Maybe you should tell the whole story, instead of your deluded version of it.
The investigate into the death of Chantel Moore is ongoing. It will be several months before a report is made public. No one has the whole story yet.
@KrazyKanuck... Why are you so angry at *me*? No, I was not personally there. WERE YOU? NO. So allow that your information is the same as mine, and we are interpreting it differently, and back the heck off, please. BTW, a person on meth might not die and be combative, but no, you don't get trained to empty your weapon. Maybe in Canada, fine, but not in *every* PD in the USA. Allow that your POV might hold as many errors as you see in mine, and call it a day. Peace, out.
@LEo Domitrix OK let me rephrase it. YOU ARE AN IDIOT.. Were you there PERSONALLY, Did you see exactly how and in which manor she was threatening the police?? Piss off TROLL!!!
Ever seen seen the video of that Chinese guy getting stabbed to death at the ATM? He ran a martial arts studio
The ONLY person saying she had a knife and was "brandishing it" is... the cop that shot her. And why was she shot instead of there being even an attempt to talk her down? It was GUn versus KNIFE. She made threats. GUN versus THREATS. Canadians shit-talk the US, but first half of my life was on the border. You can call me deluded, but my eyes didn't lie to me then, and there's no lying now. You're indigenous, you're treated worse in Canada.
"World, I was a juvenile crime spree, and look at me! I have success and privilege! Isn't it sad that not everyone does?"... I cringe. Just... cringe. For so many reasons. Ugh.
I got her point. I also got the sense she's yet another well-off white telling how POC suffer by showing how she *does not*. Came off as a brag to me. That's my POV on her POV. Peace out.
Errr... why exactly is it bad that I cringe at what comes across to me as the woman bragging about getting away with crimes?
She's not bragging. You missed her whole point.
Her point is that she got away with all that because she is white. If she wasn't white, but was black or brown she would be in jail. That's the point... So the rest of the white people who have gotten away with "little" crimes, wouldn't have if they are black or brown. She was just trying to draw a picture of how her white privilege has let her get away with all that horrible behavior.
Can we vote to defund this woman
Appeasement for more eyes on her shows, nothing init
Funny no mention of the rich area that all this took place..cops let rich people skate
I don't see why anyone is mad about the Dylan roof thing. If you watch any of the multiple police/true crime shows, you'll see it's super common for police to act friendly and nice to suspects to get them to cooperate.
Do they definitely do that with the black people in custody? Make nice? I'm in the UK and don't watch those types of shows so really don't know the answer. Being filmed doesn't seem to make officers behave better but does it make a difference when they know for sure that certain footage will be used on a TV show? There will be contracts in place over what can/can't be used so I expect it does to some extent. Also the problem with the Dylann Roof thing is that facts got distorted and people think he was taken to a Burger King. It wasn't that - he was bought a burger and given it while in custody at the police station. They have a duty to feed him.
I didn't realize it was brought to the station. That is even more common.
White privilege does exist, but this woman is boasting about being a criminal. She is scum. Why is she getting air time. Also, there is a gender privilege when it comes to crime.
Really, the only thing that was proven was the she’s an a**h***.
can we please not take advise on how to be a good person by a woman who cleary was a criminal all her life? It's like... someone would come and say. Yes....I raped a lot of women and always got off easy. But guys.... there are surely a lot of other rapists, that have the face much harsher consequences because of their skin color. I'm asking myself...what dafuq did I just read here. It is radiculous... It's not about her explaining BLM, defund the police or racial problems in the end. That women had clearly no respect for people all her life.
I once shot a man in cold blood. He was unarmed. He was just in our AO. I was ordered to do it and I followed my training and the order. I can't tell you if it was an unlawful order or not, it wasn't during normal operations. My point is that training and orders play the primary role in an authority killing someone. When you add any kind of discrimination, things become really screwed up. Killing someone in cold blood isn't ok. These cops don't recognize that right now, but in time they will.
The moral of this is to never go anywhere near Krista Vernoff! Sounds like a total nutter!
What is wrong with this woman?
This comment is hidden. Click here to view.
Anger issues, narcissism, etc? Sounds more like she's arguing for the police being a hell of a lot tougher on her, rather than stopping police brutality!
So what is the point? White women are less likely to commit a crime?
The point is that she got away with some serious shit because she is a white woman. A black man would have been persecuted or even shot for probably all of what she did.
Is everyone really defending cops still and denying white privilege? You can see w your own two eyes that black people are treated differently. The us is a small part of the global population and yet has the most people in prison the black community is a small part of us population and yet they are the most imprisoned and then poc are the next highest demographic this is systemic racism stop defending racism and saying it doesn't exist just bc a few white people have also been harassed by the cops. Black people are dying bc of it
You are right when you say that still now racism is an issue in the US. But you can't blame the problems of the black community only in that. (sorry I used the wrong verb the first time)
They aren't denying racism, read the comment.
exactly my point its not something u get a ticket for my black friend got a ticket even showed it to me its y she never paid the ticket like i mentioned bc it was ridiculous and she was excused bc of the reason on the ticket. they knew it wasnt a real reason. me and my fiance were pulled over for an actual reason and didnt get a ticket she gets pulled over for a made up one. thats wat i was trying to point out wen i shared wat happened. the cop literally told us he had better places to b and just go yet my friend who is black gets a bullshit ticket. the world is becoming very unfair and messed up. one of my friends is a cop and he said cops he works with have actually given fake tickets to meet the end of the month quota or just bc they felt like it and in one case a recently divorced cop took his anger out on as my friend put it non white drivers gave anyone he saw a bullshit ticket....that guy isnt a cop anymore bc of that. but its true cops will make excuses my friend who got the ticket her brother in law has said the same as my friend whos a cop some cops do it
Blugeagua u seem to really understand what this thread was about. Everyone is so far up their own ass they can only see it from their bubble of white privilege. This woman is very aware what she did was utterly wrong but bc she's white she got away w only a slap on the wrist had it been a black person they would've been shot in the back when running away. Stop disputing whether or not there's racism and police brutality for gods sake and I sure as hell would like to be a part of this female privilege everyone is talking about. Maybe then we can stop being raped
Nobody claims that women don't get raped or attacked. Obviously, it happens. But it happens to men, too. The imaginary concept of "female privelage" is super unhelpful, but here's where the thought comes from. We do sometimes get treated nicer than men by normal decent men, just because we're female. Like when I was 19 and forgot my driver's liscense at home, got stopped because my taillight was out and I didn't know, and I apologized and started crying. The cop softened his tone a little, and let me go with a warning. I didn't cry to manipulate him. I was just extremely upset because I was the type of kid who never broke rules. I was just sad. Was going to respectfully accept a ticket. Now, what if I had been a boy? Don't you think it's likely the cop would think I was a total weirdo, or I was drunk? Would he have reacted the same? I don't think so. And how about all the times women don't get punched in the face by their friends for acting like a total asshole, because "never hit a lady", but a man who acted the same way would get punched? Yes, there are a lot of men who beat up women, but we all know that's abuse and those women didn't deserve it. I'm talking like maybe you get drunk at a bar and act totally foul and purposely put out your cigarette in a guy's drink? In movies, the guy with the drink would punch another man who did that, but wouldn't punch a woman who did it. Women are disadvantaged and vulnerable in some ways, but privelaged in others. But honestly I'd say the same is true for men!!! My husband was a victim of sexual assault, but he's been told by some women that he has no right including himself in the MeToo movement, or that men don't understand, or "shut up, man." Men don't report it much if they get raped, because it's a lot more likely their manliness will be doubted. What kind of horrible crap is that?! Women aren't told they aren't "womanly" for being raped. They're told they were innocent victims. Yeah, some people will say "she asked for it," but only people with a rapey mindset say that crap. Most people don't. And yet most people think it's funny to see a guy drop the soap in a movie. EVERYONE gets treated horribly in some way or another. I wish everyone would get treated with respect and there was justice for all, but that isn't real life. Female privelage shouldn't be a saying but neither should male privelage or White privelage etc. Why don't we just talk about how douchy people act like douches and they need to cut it out.
I’m very sorry for what happened to your husband. We as a society have a hard time believing that a man can get raped or that a man can be a victim of spousal abuse. We still have a long way to go as a society.
Are you elligible for female-only scholarships? Are you, as a woman, default custody of kid when divorced? Are you less likely to die at work? Congratulations, here's your female privilege.
And get paid fairly and get hired to more positions of power such as friggin president not to mention how black women are treated I'm guessing it's breonna Taylor's fault she was shot and killed w 8 bullets while in her own friggin bed. The stupid racist cops had the wrong person for the warrant so not only were they not accurate bc they didn't do their due diligence they also murdered an unarmed black woman bc she was black they did not care not to mention the cop that killed her is being investigated for rape that's real female privilege all of you that say that really are only seeing this from your own echo chamber and it's sad you cannot empathize at all. That's why things have gotten so bad
There's also WAAAAY TOO MANY white people who haven't been around black culture or accepted it or saw it for what it is.
I'm not sure I would use the term "black culture". It seems to me that Black people are pretty diverse.
Wow she is a piece of shit
All I learned was you are a really awful person and I'd be embarrassed to admit all that stuff.
tbbaot yes

Jesus, are people in the usa allowed to be white anymore?I am from a white country far away and it looks like that color doesn't matter until someone who is black gets arrested or killed.Do caucasians/latinos/asians never get bullied/harassed/killed?.I just cant believe that the media only shows one side all the time. This is ridiculous
Whit people don't get shot by the police for the same things black people do.
I have seen a video where a white man was kneed on the same way as they did on floyd. There was never a media coverage on it,no protesters...I didn't even know about that video until i was told about it.So it is only important when blacks are effected? This is the textbook definition of racism.

Nearly every person ever incarcerated for meth trafficking in the US is/was a white male. But, as groups, white and asian women sell meth just as much as white men!!

Mr Brooks own actions led to his death. When you take a Tazer(which is classified as a deadly weapon) and point it at police ' it's on you
Wait. Cops always claim a Taser can't kill. So how is it a deadly weapon? ...
I read that a taser was considered a 'less-lethal' but not 'non-lethal' weapon. For instance people can have an unknown pre-existing heart condition and being fired at with a taser could kill them.
He was drunk. Yes, he was very wrong but also remember, he was an inebriated human being.

THIS ISN'TTHE FLOYD MURDER
You didn't read the coroners report. U didn't watch the video. U didn't read the charges against him. U have absolutely no actual knowledge of what happened other than making up falsities from a bias news article. Read the actual facts please. The taser had already been fired twice which means it cannot be fired again officers new that. They stood on him while he bled out wo giving proper cpr he was shot twice in the BaCK!!he was not a threat at all. They shot him dead bc he ran! Who the hell gets shot killed for running over a dui!!!
Bill that is not exactly what happened. Educate yourself and read the police report. This was straight up murder the cop in question was also involved w another shooting of a black man he didn't die but he almost did and then the cop and two others covered it up. He also was sighted for using the N word to another officer that was black. They already had deployed the taser twice. It will not fire a third time and the cops knew that. It was therefore not a deadly weapon

Im sorry but this woman obviously grew up with real priveledge, wealth, gated community sorta bs, Im white and grew up on welfare. If i stole 10 dollars my ass was going to jail. If i fought the police my ass wpuld get a beat down. Not sure what world this woman lived in

I don't have a record and I have had the police pull a gun on me twice and a taser the third time. I think it was a taser. It was dark. I register to most people as white. just because you never had a bad police encounter doesn't mean that others of your nominal race have or have not had a similar experience.
And if you see my post on s panda thread last week, you'd see I had the police storm my house and harass me due to computer error and I I'm certain that if I wasn't white, it would have gone so much worse that it did. No one is saying bad stuff doesn't happen to white ppl, it's more about the fact that, in general, black ppl and poc face harsher punishments etc that white ppl. This is in general and backed up statistically, but there are always going to be cases that don't follow the general trend, like your experiences with the officers. I'm sorry you were treated that way by the police, it isn't right for anyone to be treated "guilty until proven innocent"
P2/2. hour of questioning and abuse from the cops, including being told I'm a dangerous liar and don't deserve my baby, they were going to haul us off to the psych dept of the hospital to "find out who the liar is". Well I remembered healthline records all calls, so I asked a cop if I had the right to call healthline to access recording and he begrudgingly told me I did have that right. I rang them, explained, and got to watch the sergeants face drop as he heard me on recording asking about my son's constipation like I'd told him from the start. Turns out healthline computers were fault and assigned my number as being the source of two simultaneous calls: mine and the threatening call. The officers left, no apologies given. If I hadn't been so shocked and shaken I would have filed a complaint. Still wish I had.
Here's what I posted: p1/2 Well, my son was 4months old and constipated early one morning, so I called healthline(a free number to speak to a nurse) and was advised to give him a deep warm bath. 10 mins later there's frantic banging on my door: I open it and 8-12 police come in, saying someone had called them making threats to hurt themselves and animals. I was confused, and scared. They separated my partner and I and questioned us. I showed a cop my phone with the call log to say "see I called healthline not you guys" and he took my phone. Found out it was healthline who had received the complaint. After an
So no, they didn't go oh ur white we will leave you alone. Not at all. And I don't have a record either not even a parking ticket.
@Lauren, you have no way of knowing that the situation would be worse if you were black. on another note, I think you should have pursued whatever avenue of justice you could for the officers and their obvious misconduct/incompetence. No one needs police like that

Maybe Black officers should stop helping white people. Maybe White officers should stop helping black people. Grow up Sheeple!! There is no proof that this had anything to do with white privilege. She doesn't know that the exact officers involved wouldn't have acted the same way if she were a black girl/woman. What she's doing here is bragging about how she's so awesome because she recognizes here privilege. It's just stupid bragging. Also, Rayshad Brooks was not murder. He resisted arrest, assaulted an officer, stole the officer's weapon, then fired that weapon at an officer. The other officer in line of sight saw Brooks shooting it and fired immediately. Are we now saying that a person has a RIGHT to do all those things and the officers are just supposed to stand there and be shot by a taser and then perhaps by a gun? It's ridiculous. I agree we need to rethink the police. What if they'd let him go and he killed a family on the road. There are multiple people a day who die by drunk drivers. That isn't an excuse to shoot him, but is the reason for arresting him. Shooting him was in self defense & public safety
This comment is hidden. Click here to view.
This is why I don't support BLM movement specifically. They call everything murder, regardless of circumstances. The officer who fired now has 11 charges against him and could face the death penalty. They demand charges regardless of circumstances and want the charges immediately. The officers followed their training, so if the problem is training, fix that, don't punish the guy. I think we need mental health responders in many cases, but when it comes to a drunk driver, they need to be arrested and removed from the road. Whether they need a gun and taser when they approach him is another thing that can be questioned. But an officer is 18 1/2 times MORE likely to be killed by a black man than an unarmed black person is to be killed by the police. In this country, with all the guns out there, our police need to be armed. It's a sad fact.
But much more training would still be a good place to start. I read that some countries actually require a college degree in criminal justice of their police officers... maybe the we could start there? More fire arm safety training, more deescalation training, more psychological training are all needed.

Kinda funny how karen stereotyped a whole race of people based on her experiences
I understand that your experiences were quite different because of poverty, social class and family dynamics. So when it comes to encounters with the law, it's going to feel like quite a stretch that being white gave you even a slight advantage over a black man with the same poverty, social class and family dynamics as yourself. I'm not disagreeing with your experiences, which certainly affected you badly. On the other hand, there are cases where racism is absolutely a factor (as are social class, gender, etc.).
Thank you! People seem to think that because they are subject to disadvantages in one respect they cannot possibly be privileged in other regards. We all have a pick-n-mix bag of attributes that impact the way society sees and treats us. Some people win the privilege jackpot and are born rich, white, straight men. (They can be thick as shit, incompetent and downright criminal and still get to the very top of society, as we can clearly see). Others get dealt a hand full of discrimination. I really feel for the poor, disabled, black lesbians, who get to face financial inequality ableism, sexism, racism AND homophobia! Most of us fall somewhere in the middle. Acknowledging our own privilege doesn't negate the personal challenges we have faced, it just highlights the need to level the playing field.
