Woman Brought Home A Dying Shelter Dog So ‘She’ll Feel Loved For 24 Hours’, But A Miracle Happened
Meet Jay-Z, the adopted chihuahua with her signature sticking-out-tongue and no less extraordinary story than her looks. She was a very old and very sick pooch at a shelter where everyone thought she didn’t have much left. Then, the eyes of the dog and Heather Hayes, a marketing manager at the Asheville Humane Society, met, changing their lives forever.
“The staff at the shelter wondered if she was even adoptable because her health was so bad,” she tells The Dodo. “I said, ‘Let me take her home for a night and if we decide she doesn’t have a quality of life and we have to let her go, I want her to be at a home. ‘At least she’ll feel loved for 24 hours.'”
Since that day, 4 marvellous years have passed. Yes, the doggie survived the next day, and the next, and in fact, being loved gave her a second life. “It is so rewarding to bring home animals who are overlooked and give them a family… She has the most incredible will to live of any animal I’ve ever known.”
The woman added: “Jay-Z taught me to cherish senior animals, who need love and comfort the most in the final years of their lives. Just like people.”

Share on FacebookThat is such a great story, thank you for sharing and thank for for being the kind of human that dog needed.
She's beautiful! Chihuahuas are clever enough to know how to gain sympathy from people using any means necessary. They are super smart and street-wise.
not the ones i met, vicious little creatures, didn't try to suck up for attention, I respect that

What a beautiful and lucky little girl. They are very robust dogs. Small but tough. I lost my old chi a few months ago and this story made me cry.
I adopted a 13 year old Chihuahua. She also stuck her tongue out all the time. (Chihuahuas' teeth are fragile and tend to fall out when they get old. She lived almost to 18. She was a wonderful pet.
A great story, but in the picture of her eating from the bowl...is she eating chocolate chips??? Chocolate (especially dark chocolate, and lesser but still semi-sweet) is toxic for dogs. And that's a small dog so it won't take much.
Definitely not chocolate! They are dog food kibbles :)

Beautiful story.. We have a rescue near us Paws for Seniors, that rescues and finds loving homes for Senior pets. Their success rate is amazing! These animals need love and families too.
