Woman Adopts Dog For Her 25th Birthday, And Its Before-And-After Photos Say It All
Sometimes, the best part of birthdays isn’t the gifts you get from others, but the ones you get for yourself. Imgur user ‘jekyllandclyde’ recently turned 25, and she decided to mark the occasion by bringing a special new friend into her life.
She adopted Teddy, a Cattle Dog/Australian Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix with piercing blue eyes and an infectious smile. “He’s definitely a chick magnet. He deserves all the attention he gets,” Teddy’s new owner remarked online. “I thought he was so loving and happy at the humane society… And then I brought him home and those eyes and ears just came to life!”
Not only is Teddy set to help her stay active during the coming harsh winter months, he’s also “got a good snoot to boop.” Really, what more could you ask for?
Scroll down to see Teddy in all his glory, and if you’re thinking of getting a furry friend of your own this holiday season, remember to fully consider if you’re ready to take on the responsibility of keeping them happy and healthy. Also, consider rescuing a dog like Teddy from your local shelter rather than buying from breeders.
This is Teddy, a Cattle/Aussie/Golden Retriever mix, and this is how he looked inside a shelter and at home
His new owner just adopted him as a 25th birthday present to herself
It’s safe to say, they were both very excited about this idea
Teddy now spends his days as a person-walker, a “chick magnet,” and the proud owner of a “good snoot to boop”
“I thought he was so loving and happy at the humane society…”
“And then I brought him home and those eyes and ears just came to life!”
This feel-good story is pretty much exactly what all of us need in our lives right now
If you’re thinking of adopting a new furry friend this holiday season, remember to consider if you’re ready to keep them happy and healthy, and always check your local shelters before breeders

Share on Facebook3 years ago we adopted a border collie cross and we called him Shilo. These photos remind me so much of our experience with him. Even though the man at the shelter was a real dog lover and took care of all the dogs so much there all the puppies there just wanted to go to a forever home. The difference between Shilo in the shelter and Shilo once we got him home was EXACTLY the same as Teddy here. What we got in Shilo was a beautiful warm kind caring puppy full of love and fun and a real joy to have and a wonderful addition to our family. We love him so so much. I would recommend adopting a dog so much. If you do you are giving a wonderful dog what he deserves; a warm and loving home and in return he/she will give you a lifetime of unconditional love loyalty and pure and complete joy. That is a picture of him here on the right. SAM_0008-5...e58697.jpg
I love border collies! I'd love to adopt one but I'm not sure it's a good idea, I think that even I'm not energetic enough to keep up with a border collie, I'm much more comfortable with my hyperactive corgi! :D
Load More Replies...Wow, ausie/golden/cattle dog is such an awesome mix, why would anyone abandon such a cute pooch in first place?
maybe its owner no longer could take care of him or they died etc.
Load More Replies...Because you're a compassionate, empathetic human being - beautiful qualities to have. :)
Load More Replies...Great story. We rescued a wonderful border collie mix 11 years ago and she's been a joy. Last year when we became homeowners, we then rescued a sweetheart of a malamute...who's evil previous owners dropped him off at a kill shelter. People, PLEASE research the breed you're getting before you buy or rescue. It was obvious the malamute was just too much to handle for the idiots who originally got him.
Oh yay!! What a happiest birthday for the both! I hope they have the best adventures and a lifetime of love and companionship. My dogs are my angels I love seeing people bring these amazing creatures into their lives :)
This is so lovely, look at the difference you have made to this amazing dog, after my current constant companion passes i will only ever have rescues for the rest of my life, i will adopt the older dogs and make sure the last few years of their life is amazing and full of joy, good food and lots of playing and cuddles.
It's great that this dog was (apparently, from this story) already healthy and ready to live with his new owner, but those thinking of adopting, really, but really consider it and study as much as you can about the dog you're thinking of getting, because it can turn your life upside down for a long time if you get a dog that is ill or has emotional trauma. Not saying not to do it, or that it isn't worth it (it definitely is!), but just really think about it first, whether you're personally ready for dealing with whatever comes your way. Financially as well. Just don't let apparently easy, happy and warming stories cloud your judgment.
I am not sure if you are trying to warn people about adopting or just getting an animal in general. I agree with what you are saying, but want to add, please adopt when you are ready. Do not buy from pet stores.
Load More Replies...What a lovely dog and a great story. Well done for adopting an animal in need, rather than line a breeder's pocket. Wishing you many happy years together ;-)
I adopted the most amazing leopard catahoula. I adopted him at 4, I couldn't believe he was in the shelter. Can't post pick on here, but you should google it. Pretty dogs!
I love this rescue story! I have rescued all my pets and I think they all somehow know they are special and thankful to have a 2nd chance and this time around, with someone who truly loves them. I tell each of them, no matter what happens, I will never willingly give them away. They are my babies for life!
Best "present-to-yourself" ever! Hope you 2 have many years of cuddles, walks + adventures together. :)
I THINK HE IS STUNNING. THOSE EYES ARE SO ALL KNOWING. THEY MESMERIZE AND APPEAR TO BE OTHERWORLDLY. HE IS BEAUTIFUL.
HE IS BEAUTIFUL. THOSE EYES MAKE ME THINK OF CELESTIAL BEINGS. HE LOOKS AS IF HE COULD READ YOUR MIND.
So happy he's happy and you are happy! Beautiful pup and ya'll have beautiful days together!
I worked with a rescue for 10 years and advise people NOT to adopt/buy a pet for Christmas. Too much going on, doors get opened often, strangers come in and too much can go wrong. Wait until after the holidays so you can spend a lot of time with your new furbaby during the initial time at home. I spent several Christmases looking for dogs who darted out of a door in their unfamiliar new home. Fortunately we did find all of them safe.
Good advice in general, but not an issue for everyone... I don't even celebrate Christmas, so my house is the same in December as any other time! Actually, it can be rather quiet and lonely when everything is closed (for the holidays) and my friends are out of town. :-/

Well she Photoshop the eyes and used soft focus to highlight the happiness. Bad dog rescue centre with poor quality lighting and cages
