Woman Accuses Cop Of Racism, Gets Surprise Of A Lifetime When Police Release His Body Cam Footage
On April 27th, a South Carolinian woman was pulled to the side of the road by police in Virginia. Dawn H. W. immediately went live on Facebook after the incident, sharing her experience through tears. “I was just bullied by a racist cop, who threatened to pull me out of the car,” she said about her encounter with the officer, “I was going 70 mph in a 65 zone”. In her 11-minute video, Dawn stressed how traumatic it felt, and how she feared being shot, tasered or “Sandra Blanded”. As well as detailing the encounter, the woman mentioned that she “did a lot of protesting, a lot of fighting in her day, so things like that wouldn’t happen”.
After the video went viral, Brunswick County Sheriff Brian Roberts received a flood of angry calls from concerned people. He reviewed the officer’s body cam footage and determined that his deputy did nothing wrong during the encounter with Dawn H. W. “I don’t know what she has been through and I don’t know her life history, what I worry about is this kind of thing will inflame situations where you see cops in other states have been executed while they were just eating lunch,” the sheriff told WTVR.
The officer’s body cam recording was then released to the public and it became clear that he acted in a professional manner. In the video, the deputy clarified that the reason he stopped her wasn’t racial profiling, as Dawn H. W. had claimed, but the fact that she was going at 70mph when the speed limit was 55mph. He then gave her a ticket and wished her a safe day. Scroll down below to watch the video and see how the deputy handled the situation.

This is why as much as I'd absolutely support people who experience real racial bias from officers, I need legitimate evidence in order to do so. I take no one at their word alone, sadly you can't. I think body cams are a good way to try to hold EVERYONE accountable in those situations.
Needing legitimate evidence is what the whole western justice system(and probably most countries in the world) is based on, thankfully camera phones have made easier to gather that evidence but theres still going to be people like the above woman who tell lies.
Load More Replies...On her video she says she was having a good day, just talking on the phone. If she had been paying attention instead of being on the phone, perhaps she would have seen the speed limit sign. The officer was very professional in dealng with her. She is a total disgrace to african americans by making false allegations. She needs another ticket for being an all out liar.
Just the fact she was talking on her phone while driving warranted being pulled over.
Load More Replies...The police in many parts of the USA have a lot to answer for in terms of unacceptably prejudicial and discriminatory behaviour towards ethnic minorities, especially black people. However this officer is not one of those. Assuming both videos are full and correct then the officer did his job correctly and kept the lady informed at all times as to what he was doing. I can understand she was upset too. We all get upset if we get pulled over and those of us who are of colour always have a nagging doubt as to "why did he pull me over? Is it because of my race?". But if you 70 in a 55 zone it's your fault. Deal with it.
Lol she's driving on her phone right after getting a ticket?! Give her another!!
That whole interaction was very innocuous. Basic. She was not happy about receiving the ticket... very sad thing for her to cry wolf like this.
Maybe she's mentally ill. How does she flat-out lie about going 70 in a 55? "Some tiny difference, like 7 miles an hour..."
She didn't think the facts would ever come to light; I guarantee.

Ironic that you’re ok with generalizing all cops across the entire United States as racist killers, but you are disgusted with her lack of integrity? How is her attempt to rally African-Americans and people of color in her video not racist? She wanted to create buzz, target the cop and make it a race issue when it was clearly a routine traffic stop - nothing more, nothing less.

She is probably a drama queen and does this for every situation in her life. She's pissed that she got a ticket but wants to blame anyone else but herself.
She's a coward who basically did not want to own up to the responsibility of her actions.

My first thought was what the last twitter commentator said - THIS is why every cop should have body cameras. It isn't just to catch the bad ones, it is to protect the good ones who are wrongfully accused. It also will help in the event that the officer walks in on an ongoing crime. There are so many good reasons for the cameras, the technology is there, it is terrible that not all the officers are wearing them.
Shame on her. There are good police out there who genuinely do their job with respect, let's show them a little respect it's a tuff job dealing with the public.
As an Anglo\African I find her lies and behaviour disgusting, that police officer couldn't have been nicer even if it was possible.Good policing in keeping her and the roads safe, she should be ashamed.
The body -cam footage was like watching the interaction between a parent and toddler. She did something naughty, got caught, tried to charm her way out of it, realizing that she wasn't going to get out of punishment, and resorted to a full on hissy fit. That deputy handled it like a pro. He must have a little one of his own...
It genuinely makes me mad that people started hating on the cop without hearing the whole story. It never ceases to amaze me that whenever somebody is falsely accused of something they didn't do, that a lot of people will just believe the accuser and start attacking the person who's being accused without hearing his/her side of events. It's only when the truth comes out that people apologize to the person they originally thought was portrayed in such a negative light.
I think she was already genuinly scared and on edge as soon as she got pulled over. And her fear for what COULD happen made her listen only to the things that confirmed her fears. been there.
Maybe she felt guilty because she was yapping on her phone instead of paying attention to her driving. People who do nothing wrong have no reason to be on "edge".

So speeding and lying about it (ofcourse claiming there were no signs between the gasstation and that point, what about before the station though?), having an attitude like that, not complying to the cop and then using the phone (for +12 minutes?!) while driving to make a video and accusing the cops of racism and bullying/threatening her?? Geez... too bad it's not allowed to slap some sense in some people...
About time we realized the benefits to Body Cams. This unfortunate individual is a racist herself. By Spewing her lies and propaganda, she is causing untold damage to all of us. She should be prosecuted for that also! Kudo's to the Officer. A Gentleman and a Patient Human Being. At the Very Least this woman should be made to post the truth and apologise in person to the Officer and his department
Crying wolf at the top of her voice! Not a good idea to be playing the victim here. I am grateful that the truth was on video. Playing the race card makes it difficult on those who have truly been victimized by it. I don't wish evil on anyone and pray that she never really experiences true abuse from a police officer, and I hope she has learned a good lesson here.
Is she delusional? What actually happened is nothing like what she wants us to believe.
The difference here is black and white. (Pun intended). Unrighteous pride and the spirit enmity are so ripe. People who are set on looking for ways to take offense will always find it. I am so angry at the leaders/dividers on the left who fuel this destructive undercurrent. All in a brazen attempt for power and to keep people on the plantation pushing the right chad so to speak. I invite all to free themselves and join the party of the free.
In this society, people can be so oversensitive and never take the blame for their actions. This is a prime example...
Search for The Flaherty Files on youtube. This absurd childishness and race-baiting behavior is posted on a daily basis for all to see. The lives of your loved ones depends on knowing the scale of the hostility blacks have towards everyone else, especially whites.
Well, isn't she just a big ol' liar? Threatened with likely bodily harm, bludgeoned, dragged into a ditch; really? since the cop was just THE MOST AWFUL ever! Liar, liar, pants on fire. What gives her the right to denigrate this officer just doing his job, in a polite and professional manner- her over-inflated sense of indignity, injustice and fear of her very life? OR, trying for that elusive 15 minutes of fame? Sorry to tell you sweetie, but now, FB and EVERY SINGLE, FRIEND, CO-WORKER, NEIGHBOR, CHURCH MEMBER, FAMILY, hell, even your enemies knows beyond any shadow of a doubt you're NOT an honorable woman. You talked about lynching? Fear of dying there on a lonely country road? Guess what, Baby, YOU just did yourself in, for good. Yeah, put a big ol' "L" on your forehead: "L" means, "I'M A DAMN LIAR." Oh, AND you get to speed, too! Cause you're special. Poor you! Crocodile tears and "fake news" . Tell someone who GAS!!! LIAR!!!
Wow. What a b******t f*****g thing to pull. The officer was absolutely polite and professional. Why do people do this kind of thing? Is she that insecure and desperate for attention? C**t.
I'm an old man now and live in Arizona but I had a lot of tickets when I lived in Washington State. Over 10 in one year. From my experience this pretty typical of the treatment from the police. Only in 2 or 3 out of what must be a total of over 30 traffic stops were the police rude or unpleasant. Of course, I took a different approach than this woman and tried to be pleasant and friendly and admitted what I had done unless I honestly hadn't done it. That works wonders.
thank god for body cams. It makes sure that good cops aren't unfairly accused of s**t and indicts the bad ones.
REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!! NICE TRY!!!!!! TOO BAD HE HAD HIS BODY CAM ON!!!!!! :) :)
First she lied about not seeing the speed limit signs (plural). Then she had the audacity to be upset that he wasn’t just going to give her a warning. THEN she goes on to break the law some more by driving while using her phone to record her “racial discrimination”. These kinds of people make it so much harder for actual victims of discrimination of any sort, for everyday drivers who tell the truth about seeing the damn signs, AND for the good cops just trying to make their home towns safer.
I totally get this lady's fear. She actually has a valid fear of cops being a black person because of the racist views on this country and the unfair treatment and abuse that black people have received. I hear about it all the time on the news. I'm not saying all cops are racist, but I do fervently believe their is a rampant problem of police brutality and aggression, esp towards blacks. Trump's presidency has only made racism worse. IMO, I felt nervous just watching the cop's footage. He seemed amped up on adrenaline or caffeine. I don't think he would've busted out the "I'll arrest you for not signing this" so defensively if it had been a white person. I can't say whether the cop was racist or not, but I did sense a prejudice. If a white person was acting that way, asking questions like that etc, I feel they would've been given more latitude, more "rights" to go on, then a black person. All this bashing of this woman's genuinely fearful reaction is way too biased.
Stacy-get a grip will you. All the police officer was doing was giving her the facts of refusing to sign the ticket. Pumped up on adrenaline of caffeine? Really?? He barely raised his voice to be heard over her protests of not signing it. Any time a black person does something wrong all they do is gripe racism instead of owning up to the fact they did something wrong. People are sick of hearing racism this, racism that. As someone pointed out in their response, if she hadn't been yapping on the phone and paying attention to her driving she would have seen the speed limit signs.
Load More Replies...We've gone from thinking "the cop is a terrible person who must be shamed on the internet" to "the driver is a terrible person who must be shamed on the internet". What if neither of them was terrible? I don't think it's accurate to say she's lying about being distressed about a white officer pulling her over in rural Virginia. Did the officer do the right thing? Absolutely, and that's great! But there are many many stories of black people being pulled over and harrassed and/or shot for less than this. It seems unfair to claim that her sense of fear over this is false or "playing a race card". If I'm in a park at night and a hook-handed man shambles up to ask me for directions, I'm going to be terrified, even if the hook-handed man is totally polite. The only untruth I heard in her video was over what she thought the speed limit was. The rest was interpretation. How many times are you not sure whether the zone you're in is 55 or 65?
As a Canadian whom has traveled the States 3 times in my 45 years I have known highway speeds are 55mph unless otherwise marked, so don't pull this c**p!
Law enforcement officers should all want body cams for exactly this reason: being accused of misconduct when none occurred.
As a black person, this kind of thing really annoys me. There have been too many black people genuinely injured or killed in interactions with police officers for this woman to sit up and claim that the officer was racist toward her. Everytime someone makes a claim like this, it makes the Black Lives Matter movement crumble a little bit more. Not all black people would act like this, however. Some of us are very gracious when dealing with law enforcement personnel.
This woman is vile and a nasty trouble causer! She broke the law and tried playing the race card. It’s only out of sheer luck that the police officer had a body cam recording the traffic stop. Otherwise it could have easily led to the police officer being landed in a world of s**t. Not only from the public, but from his superiors as well. Even her initial claim was bad enough when she said she was only driving 7 mph over the speed limit. Even 7 mph over is still speeding and subject to receiving a ticket. But to actually have been driving 15 mph over makes her ridiculous claims even more heinous. I sincerely hope that her friends and family see the truth of what happened and learn just how much of a nasty piece of work she actually is. I hope that people actually understand just how bad what she did is and treat her accordingly. I personally hope she gets severe dysentery and melts from the inside out!!
There should be an arrest of her as soon as she steps into the court room for her case. I'm sure thought that she will not show that ugly mug of hers in the court house. This will be paid through the mail now that she has made a horses's azz outta herself ! Fake crying and disdain over her being treated like a slave. LOL This lady is busted big time, even her friends will find it hard to ever believe her again.
I saw this young woman's 11-min video & then I realized that there was a body-cam video from the cop that pulled her over so I watched that. The cop was very detailed, telling her that she was going 70 in a 55-mile/hr zone, issuing her a ticket/summons to be in court in June or prepay if she so chose--then when she started to say she wasn't going to sign or pay the ticket, THEN he said "you'll have to get out of the car & be arrested for resisting"...and then, the woman complied. To me, it seemed like she was making a mountain out of a mole hill...but then again, it's only my lazy-eyed, [right-side] hemiplegic, hydrocephalic opinion, which means nothing in the final analysis.
You do not have to agree with the complaint but sign your name with UD1-207 under duress means you received the complaint, that is all it says - not admission of guilt. Otherwise they can arrest you. This was not a race issue, she didn't agree with the complaint (ticket) had she known she could do this she would not have had to feel so icky. Carl Miller - very informative
Racism does exist. But if you keep crying wolf then it's not going to help the real victims of racism. This was more the fact that she felt she was above the law. Regardless of whether she thought there were no signs, the officers clocked her going 20 over. That's a fact. Rather than give her a ticket on the spot, she is given the option to either admit guilt later and pay OR collect evidence to prove her innocence (by going back and seeing where the signs are). Arguing about not signing a legal police document saying "I don't have to sign" isn't going to help. She could have asked to read it first or ask what it's for - rather than outright refuse.
She's "appropriating" another race's hair color & style. Don't Black people have a problem with that when Whites do it?
Nothing good to anyone ever comes out of these fabricated tales. Of course we know there are actual incidents that are unacceptable and too often tragic. But false accusations like this are just as likely to anger and incite people as the real thing. It just exacerbates the problem. She didn't draw attention to a problem that needs a solution, she just put doubt and suspicion into a lot of minds. She didn't make the police look bad, she just made herself a part of the problem. That's how it becomes a vicious cycle and slows the progress to resolve the overall dilemma. She's just feeding the fire and poking the bear.
I watched the body cam vid first. Then her vid. I couldn't even finish her video! I was done when she started blubbering. And really, lying about the speed limit. New area, fine. Quick changea in speed signs, fine. Been there. But those long stretches have speed signs posted every mile or less. 70 in a 55 (NOT 65 like she claims) is a huge span. I am really glad for body cams.
she should get a ticket for being on the phone facetiming while driving. she tells us where she is while she is facetiming. maybe that town should send her a ticket.
I was stopped in Montana for 75 in a 70 zone. Cop asked me to sign the paper I asked why he gave a similar explanation as this officer. I took the paper, signed it, handed it back and paid the fine on line. I didn't argue just asked politely why I needed to sign it. He politely explained why and it was all over in a matter of minutes. Most cops are usually very polite if you are polite towards them. But maybe they just treat me special because I am white.
or because you are polite and don't accuse them of racism without any reason
Load More Replies...My following statement is only philosofical. I'm a person who believes that we're *all humans*, period. However, why is that when someone who wears cornrow hair - or dreadlocks - be accused of racial appropriation when other persons dye their hair blonde - and that's not "appropriation"? Because it's not. It's exactly the same thing! Let's all get pretty the way we like it, and let's all be ONE.
Since you're open to philosophical thought, my opinion is that there is deep seated fear and resentment for what's happened in the past and continues to span through the generations since the original slaves were brought over. Now you can argue well why don't they move on? This is why, there have been laws up until the 60's that have literally oppressed people of color, secondly the attitudes of racism and prejudices continue to proliferate in America while right wing programs systematically target people of color. Look into ALEC, One of these organizations. Prisons will profit and prison Subcontractors will profit. That is why the Justice Department with Jeff sessions in charge right now are passing all kinds of legislation that will make it easier to round up people into private prisons for crimes We would not call criminal. While this is happening to pad the pockets of bad politicians and corporations, they will try to distract us with racially divisive propaganda.
Load More Replies.....and then she continues to drive doing a video..i´d give he another ticket for that.
Very sad. Unfortunately, she should probably not be driving & talking on the blue tooth/phone [you can also get hurt/killed because you are distracted or pull over & talk on the phone or Facebook or blue tooth or whatever] because she was going 70 in a 55-mile/hr zone....she needs to pay attention to the road & how she is driving...she was obviously too distracted by texting/speaking on the phone to whoever she was speaking to/speeding to know what she was doing...granted, the cop should not have threatened to pull her out of the car & she is most likely correct that if she were any other race, she would not have been threatened. On the other hand, race can be irrelevant as everyone who owns a driver's license is probably guilty of speeding at one time or another, so the acting of "speeding" [inadvertently or not] is a moot point in itself. My heart goes out to this young lady...
Typical anti-White racism. It's rare that the (((media))) ever discuss anti-White racism. (((They))) mostly encourage it.
I don’t think they should say she’s “lying”. She’s not a bad person. She believes what she’s saying. She’s simply 1) ignorant of the law - no excuse; 2) a bit on the paranoid end of the racist spectrum. I hope this was an opportunity for her to understand more about what she’s said. I’m sure she’s pretty humiliated by now! I think WE, as readers should keep things into perspective and quit overreacting and putting her down. I, personally, don’t think this should be exploited the way it is in an entertainment blog.
Well he definitely didn't seem racist at all, but he still sounded mad and irritated. And also seriously? You're allowed to go 10 over the speed limit and she was only going 15 over so he should have just gave her a warning. I feel like he was in a bad mood and just wanted to get his frustration out
I'm not surprised. I was in the Navy for over twenty years, and worked with many "people of color." Most of them were like this. They always had imaginative excuses for not being able to do their work.
This is a typical lesson to those who buy anything that others sell in the first place.
Typical nagger. Taser her until she catches fire, then conveniently don't p**s on her.
Not really related to this particular case but "people of color" in comments crack me up every time. Am i "people of no color" just because i'm not black.
This is why l've always supported body cameras for cops, most often it will exonerate cops against BS claims.
I meant to say people of color including white play race card nowdays.. That's a shame.
Load More Replies...Her accusation is racist. She should be ashamed but people like that have no shame. She's an entitled piece of garbage who wants sympathy and people to go after the person who caught her.
Or the other reading of it is that unbiased people don't like when people do bad things, i.e cops being racist or people lying about being the victims of police racism.

This isn't me sticking up for this woman or her actions, it's just absolute nonsense to pretend like racism from some whites lately isn't bad.
Load More Replies...Yeah but that scenario has nothing to do with the story or any of the more main stream killings of unarmed people that have given police a bad name recently, one police officer forced a guy(who was in tears) to crawl along the floor before shooting him dead. Police officers need to have the right mentality to do the job, if you're walking around with a gun thinking everyone is a punk kid that needs to be tought to respect you then you probably not right for the job, not saying that you're saying that, but it's an example of the way some of them think.

Yes there is a racial dynamic but you have to judge the situation by what is actually happening in it, not by the worst ones you have read about.

Load More Replies...Lol. God are you joking? White supremacy is having a HUGE comeback. There are actual white people calling for the genocide of black people right now. There is no f*****g way that "reverse racism" is worse at this point. It has nothing do with being PC and everything to do with reality.

Load More Replies...I've seen WAY, WAY more actual racism than people making stuff up like this. Please don't put all "whites" in the same category. I'm still more apt to believe a victim.
Load More Replies...And sometimes the exact wording really do matter. She framed it in a way where the police officer was aggressive and threatening, nothing in the officer's video came close to it. If she really felt so threatened that she thought there was a chance that she would never come home then she needs to see a shrink. Yes there is a racial dynamic but you have to judge the situation by what is actually happening in it, not by the worst ones you have read about.
