Some people just looove talking. Like your auntie Betsie who just created a FB account and floods it with posts on chemtrails, or that entitled anti-masker who believes wearing a face covering impinges on their rights. Or many other loud ones on social media who can’t miss a chance to spread some misinformation on drinking bleach to prevent COVID-19.

But the world is the place of karma, and if there’s yin, there’s always yang. That means that if you throw some nonsense out there into the world, it may come back and hit you like a boomerang.

To show you how it works in practice, Bored Panda compiled a mesmerizing collection from the witty subreddit called “Murdered By Words.” It’s a prominent corner of the internet entirely devoted to put-downs, comebacks, and counter-arguments.

Being in an argument, whether voluntarily or not, is one of the most emotionally draining situations you can get yourself into. It raises your blood pressure, and you may feel trapped by the opponent trying to prove their point no matter what.

It gets even more frustrating when the person you’re arguing with is proving a point that, in your eyes, doesn’t make any sense to begin with. Whether it’s anti-maskers, anti-vaxers, flat-earthers, or conspiracy theorists, anyone can have their own opinion, but as such, everyone can stand up for their own beliefs.

Luckily, there’re some tricks you should know to winning an argument. According to Susan Krauss Whitbourne, a professor emerita of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, you should start by knowing your facts.

“How many times have you made a claim about some piece of trivia only to realize, as soon as you’ve made that claim, that you’re completely wrong?” Such a situation doesn’t lead you anywhere and gives your opponent a straight shot to winning.

Spot on. As a doctor, you are absolutely obliged to treat all patients the same way, regardless of age, gender, occupation, and anything else. If one is unable to do this, they simply aren't doctor material and should not be allowed to graduate.

Seeing other person’s perspective may also help you in an argument. “You don’t have to agree with a foe in order to see his or her perspective,” says Susan.

“However, if you want to win an argument, you do need to be able to see the world the way your opponent does. Stepping into the mental set of those you argue with allows you to figure out what’s influencing them.”

If you figure out what’s triggering the person you’re arguing with, you can direct your focus there and showing a little empathy never hurt anybody.

And the third thing is to remember that “Becoming defensive is one of the worst ways to win an argument.” Letting your opponent see that you've dug into your position with no other alternatives may lift the argument from bad to ugly. Moreover, if you let the other person realize that you’re open-minded, even if you're pretending to be, the argument may resolve itself.

And it was the judge & jury that decided to award her with that amount. She did not sue for that amount. After all the facts came to light regarding McDonald's greedy reckless business decisions, the courts found it not only appropriate to compensate this poor woman, but to also punish McDonald's. Justice served (at just the right temp)

I always love when this case gets brought up. I totally bought the whole frivolous lawsuit thing until I actually learned the details of the case. Amazing, the PR job they pulled on that one. Extra detail: the amount the jury awarded the woman was equivalent to the coffee sales McDonald's made in a SINGLE DAY at the time. They were trying to make a point.

That and another fact that never gets mentioned, a lot of the other burn victims were little kids. They'd be running around in the restaurants, bump into someone carrying a cup of coffee and have coffee spilled on them. Granted kids shouldn't be running, but being thoughtless as a young child shouldn't rate life long disfigurement.

I am not defending McDonalds at all but what folks need to remember is that this happened in 1994. 3 years after the internet became public. Back then there wasn't social media (that happened in the early 2000s), there wasn't google (that was in 1998) and obviously the news was still in print so the hows and the whys of this lawsuit were not readily available to everyone. That meant there was a huge misunderstanding as to the details of the case. So people formed opinions/theories over what was available to them. Now we can find all of that information at our fingertips but people still cling to their original assessment and therefore post stupid s**t like the OP did.

That poor woman genuinely suffered. I am so frustrated this still keeps coming up. Also, I once sloshed hot tea on me (I drink it black, so no cooling milk) from a takeaway drink from a chain in the UK, and it burnt my hand a *lot* worse than the times I've spilled boiling water directly from the kettle while pouring a drink at home. These places keep the water above 100ºC, under pressure, in their machines. I even had a couple of friends (who hadn't seen the scald) make similar comments "ooooh, hot water is hot, who knew" because they didn't realise. Thankfully the scalded area wasn't big. I contacted the company and pointed out that this could have easily got spilled on a baby or an elderly person, for whom it would have been a lot more serious. I was offered two lids, to close the sipping hole, for a while afterwards . . .

I have NO PROBLEM with corporations being fined millions or BILLIONS. But paying it to the first person who sues them for an infraction is stupid. Fine them and have the money go to pay for the legal system, or charity, or someone other than the person who sued. Give that person (and every other person who sues for the same thing) money for pain and suffering, lost wages, medical, etc., but not "profit". THAT'S where the greed and frivolous lawsuits come in.

The point is that coffee shouldn't be served at that temperature under any circumstances. Accidents happen, and there is no merit in the argument that she caused it herself by being careless. If the coffee had been the right temperature, all that would have happened is she got coffee on her lap. As it is, the burns were so severe that her labia were fused together. Also, she wasn't driving. She was in the passenger seat and the car was parked. She was 79 years old. You know how older people can be a bit shaky? Think of your grandparents and have some compassion.

A lot of immigrants work in jobs that others don’t want to do, majority have come for a better life and will take what they can, they have to start their lives all over again and they are not picky like many of us westerners (especially the privileged). They often take the lower paying jobs like trolley collectors, taxi/uber drivers, food delivery drivers and fruit pickers etc. What a lot of people don’t seem to understand is that a lot of these immigrants are well educated but their qualifications mean nothing because of where they are from and studied so they have to do it all over again.
