Some people just looove talking. Like your auntie Betsie who just created a FB account and floods it with posts on chemtrails, or that entitled anti-masker who believes wearing a face covering impinges on their rights. Or many other loud ones on social media who can’t miss a chance to spread some misinformation on drinking bleach to prevent COVID-19.

But the world is the place of karma, and if there’s yin, there’s always yang. That means that if you throw some nonsense out there into the world, it may come back and hit you like a boomerang.

To show you how it works in practice, Bored Panda compiled a mesmerizing collection from the witty subreddit called “Murdered By Words.” It’s a prominent corner of the internet entirely devoted to put-downs, comebacks, and counter-arguments.

Being in an argument, whether voluntarily or not, is one of the most emotionally draining situations you can get yourself into. It raises your blood pressure, and you may feel trapped by the opponent trying to prove their point no matter what.

It gets even more frustrating when the person you’re arguing with is proving a point that, in your eyes, doesn’t make any sense to begin with. Whether it’s anti-maskers, anti-vaxers, flat-earthers, or conspiracy theorists, anyone can have their own opinion, but as such, everyone can stand up for their own beliefs.

Luckily, there’re some tricks you should know to winning an argument. According to Susan Krauss Whitbourne, a professor emerita of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, you should start by knowing your facts.

“How many times have you made a claim about some piece of trivia only to realize, as soon as you’ve made that claim, that you’re completely wrong?” Such a situation doesn’t lead you anywhere and gives your opponent a straight shot to winning.

Spot on. As a doctor, you are absolutely obliged to treat all patients the same way, regardless of age, gender, occupation, and anything else. If one is unable to do this, they simply aren't doctor material and should not be allowed to graduate.

Seeing other person’s perspective may also help you in an argument. “You don’t have to agree with a foe in order to see his or her perspective,” says Susan.

“However, if you want to win an argument, you do need to be able to see the world the way your opponent does. Stepping into the mental set of those you argue with allows you to figure out what’s influencing them.”

If you figure out what’s triggering the person you’re arguing with, you can direct your focus there and showing a little empathy never hurt anybody.

And the third thing is to remember that “Becoming defensive is one of the worst ways to win an argument.” Letting your opponent see that you've dug into your position with no other alternatives may lift the argument from bad to ugly. Moreover, if you let the other person realize that you’re open-minded, even if you're pretending to be, the argument may resolve itself.

Estonian healthcare is one of the best in my mind. Every single person who is working or is under 19, is insured. Also retired people. You just pay for your medicine which is also with a discount. Time to get to a specialist is also fairly short. No medical bills. People are not paying idiotic sums for an ambulance ride. To be exact, we pay nothing.

Wait times? Only if its a non-emergency procedure, and even then the wait time is really not that bad. Perfectly worth not having a panic attack every time you have to visit the emergency or go to a doctor.

Canadian medicine literally saved my life in the 1970s (blood clot the size of a fried egg near my brain, I nearly died, yadda, yadda, still kicking nearly 40 years later), has helped a great deal with my autistic son (now 33), and recently saved both my hubby's life when he was hit with Stage 4 throat cancer and my Mum when she got bladder cancer. The most I've ever had to pay was 45 bucks for the ambulance ride. Yeah, I'm never leaving Canada!

I feel like a real comeback would include actual facts on wait times. For "serious medical procedures" with any real urgency, you don't wait. You DO wait if it's not serious or not urgent. As opposed to the American system, where you don't wait if you're rich or insured, and if you're not rich or not insured you either 1) don't get the procedure at all, even if it's serious & urgent, or 2) get it but declare bankruptcy afterward because you just lost everything. Guess which one I prefer?

If other countries can successfully have socialized medicine there is no reason why the US can't do it. Other than the fact that our government is bought and paid for by big pharma and insurance companies.

My friend had an AVM in her brain, once it was discovered she had surgery a week later to have it removed. Absolute emergencies are seen to earlier otherwise you do have the option of going private, which is expensive but cheaper of you have private health cover. At least we have options, we can choose to go public and have to wait and pay nothing or go private with less waiting times and pay a gap fee if you have private health or full cost without private health cover. The longest I waited was 2 years but that was for breast reductions, I paid a TOTAL of $165 and that was for the initial private consultation fee. Medicare covered the hospital stay, surgery, after care etc.

Canadian healthcare is amazing. I had 2 c-sections free of charge. I almost died the second time and the amount of medications they had to give me was also free! I also had a tumor removed free of charge and there was practically no wait at all. So yeah, i'll take my "socialized" medicine any day over american health care avenues

Our healthcare system is garbage. That's awesome you had good experiences, but people are dying on waiting lists for no reason. What's covered and what isn't is illogical. For the amount we pay we shouldn't be consistently ranking in the middle to lower end of the pack for first world countries year after year.

Hmm... let's see... wait time for serious medical procedures. Well... I suppose that depends on what you consider serious. If it's life/death (ie: cardiovascular, organ failure treatment) - no matter how much $$$ you have - you don't get to jump ahead of those people... also... yeah, you have to wait for your 'serious but non-life threatening surgery'... a surgery that **WILL** happen. In America... if you haven't paid through the nose to *exactly the correct* HMO... or haven't paid ENOUGH (meaning a huge ungodly amount)... what're you waiting for? You're waiting for exactly **nothing** to happen. You don't get a surgery at the end of 18 months.... you don't get one at all. Is this supposed to be better? I'm confused.

Canadian here. If you have a life threatening injury and its time sensitive, Canadian Healthcare system is a damn blessing. The only time its really sketchy is when you're at the clinic for something non-life threatening. Wait times can be hit or miss depending what part of the country you're in. (Speaking from experience. Ive lived in Big Cities (Montreal, Toronto) and small ones: Sudbury, Timmins, etc. and the experiences of healthcare aren't the same.

Went to the emergency room and had it cleaned up and bandaged for nothing, plus a follow-up inspection the next day, also for nothing. And they gave me a free sandwich when I mentioned that I'd missed lunch. Yeah, I think I prefer it here in Australia.

Australia's system works on two levels. We have public health care which is used for emergencies and general health. If you need elective surgery (eg, for something bothersome but not life threatening) or to see a specialist etc etc you can choose to wait a little longer, or you can go private. We do have health insurance companies, it is an available option for people. Not always a great one (a friend needed a knee reconstruction and in the private system and with full health insurance she was still going to have to pay $45,000. She opted to wait an extra 2 months and have it done in the public system). I do not understand the resistance to a system like this, which would save lives and make a health crisis less of a devastating financial burden on families.

A lot of immigrants work in jobs that others don’t want to do, majority have come for a better life and will take what they can, they have to start their lives all over again and they are not picky like many of us westerners (especially the privileged). They often take the lower paying jobs like trolley collectors, taxi/uber drivers, food delivery drivers and fruit pickers etc. What a lot of people don’t seem to understand is that a lot of these immigrants are well educated but their qualifications mean nothing because of where they are from and studied so they have to do it all over again.
