Wife Turns WiFi Off After Noticing Husband Goes To The Toilet Whenever It’s His Time To Take Care Of Kids

Wife Turns WiFi Off After Noticing Husband Goes To The Toilet Whenever It’s His Time To Take Care Of Kids

There’s procrastination and then there’s Procrastination with a capital ‘P.’ We’ve all been in situations where we’re supposed to be doing something important but we keep putting it off. (You might even be reading this article right now because you don’t want to finish that mega important school essay/job report/dragon-slaying quest of yours?)

Well, Reddit user FinalWintersEve turned to the ‘Am I the Assh*le’ community to tell the story of how her husband procrastinates. Every time that he has to take care of the children, he goes to the bathroom first. He spends an average of 25 minutes each time watching YouTube videos and whatnot. And when he’s not on the toilet, he’s playing video games on his computer.

Fed up with her husband tricking her into doing the vast majority of all the childcare, she took matters into her own hands. From now on, every time he’s in the bathroom for more than 10 minutes, she switches the WiFi off. Truly dastardly.

One woman told the internet what her husband does to avoid helping her out with taking care of the kids

Most redditors thought that FinalWintersEve was right to confront her husband because he was obviously avoiding being a dutiful dad and husband. We can’t judge him for playing Diablo, but it’s pretty clear that he doesn’t have his priorities straight.

But whatever reason for turning off the WiFi, at the end of the day, going to the bathroom with your phone is not a good idea. It can have serious consequences for your health. And FinalWintersEve might even be improving her husband’s health without even knowing.

Wireless carrier Verizon’s 2015 survey showed that 9 out of 10 people bring their phones with them when they go to the bathroom. Healthline explains that when you do that, you end up sitting on the toilet longer than usual and increases your risk of getting hemorrhoids. Ouch. Just to be clear, it’s the prolonged sitting that’s bad for you.

The second problem with phones in bathrooms is that you’re contaminating them with disgusting bacteria, microbes, and other nasty things. A 2017 study of students’ phones showed that some of them even had E.coli on them. That. Is. Disgusting. (How many of you are wiping down your phones with antibacterial gel right about now?)

And what do you imagine happens when you touch your face after touching your phone? Or what happens when someone else touches your phone? At least avoid using your phone in public bathrooms like at school or work because it’s difficult to gauge the level of cleanliness there, unlike in your own home.

According to Healthline, pooping should take 1 to 15 minutes. Any longer and it’s clear that you might have some problems with constipation and you’re raising the chance you’ll get hemorrhoids.

Here’s what people thought of the story

He's on Parental Leave, not "8 hours playing Diablo, working on his car, and hiding in the bathroom leave." He's being a jerk and would have continued to be, as long as he got away with it. Reminds me when my husband "stayed home from work to help me when I was sick" but then spent 12 - 15 hours playing on the computer without ever even once checking on me. I should have thought of the wifi trick.

So I wonder how frequent and how long his bathroom breaks are during those video games...I don't think she needed to turn the wifi off to find out he was using bathroom time to hide from his responsibilities.

Years back, I made the mistake of asking my sister, "So [your husband] is babysitting while you have an evening out?" She sternly corrected me, "He's not 'babysitting'." It does devalue the father's role to call childcare "babysitting". In the above situation, this evasive idiot is acting as if he requires babysitting.

When my parents come to “visit” my children they ignore the kids and stick their noses in their tablets. I turn off the WiFi. Don’t care what that makes me, but it feels good.

It sounds like this guy hasn't grown up yet, and was absolutely not ready to have children - he's still one himself. The blatant childishness of sitting on the toilet watching youtube videos while his children scream and cry is just mindblowing. Especially when he already spends that long every day on his own hobbies. Also, if his 'condition' magically clears up when she turns the wifi off just proves that he's running away from his responsibility. If he was mature enough to decide to have children (I assume this was a joint decision), then he should be mature enough to look after them as well.

I'm sorry your husband is stupid. He spends 8 hours playing Diablo, finds time to work on the car, hides in restroom while you start and finish feeding the babies, blames his bathroom usage on his medication, and still blames you for turning into an a*****e from lack of sleep when he's called out? If he he thinks your sleep deprived instead of using it as "leverage" for him he should help you!!😤

IrishClaire, I've met a number of great step-parents and a number of people raised by them. What astonishes me: I know of three cases where stepchildren are so much like their stepparents that I think the biological parents picked someone like their exes, but way better. I hope this poor mother finds Husband 2.0 soon.

He's off work to help take care of her and the babies. He can play video games when he gets down time. He should be helping out in every way or go back to work. What kind of a jerk hides out in the bathroom while his newborn is screaming and his wife had her hands full with the other baby? Help your family, turdball!

NTA. I would put it to him this way..He either helps with the kids and stops using the bathroom as a damn excuse or you will do this completely on your own, as in, he can pay you alimony and child support for the next 18 years. And tell him you've recorded everything he hasn't done for his own kids so the lawyers can make sure you get every penny you deserve. See if that doesn't light a fire under his a$$. Also threaten to turn off the Wi-fi permanently if he doesn't start pulling his weight. Sounds like you two need marriage counseling TBH.

Also..make sure that his time in the bathroom is YouTube videos and not him stepping out on you. My BIL wife would go out to the garage for 30 min to an hour. Turned out she was having long conversations with her lover in another state. When my BIL confronted her, she admitted it. They broke up, she ran to be with loverboy...loverboy says "Hey..it was fun..but I'm not leaving my wife for you...." Couldn't happen to a nicer B****.

Idk how anyone can say she's the a*****e here...she is literally working 24/7 to take care of the kids and her husband is spending this time not helping her and playing Diablo. While her actions are passive-aggressive, she is probably sleep-deprived and sick and tired of his avoidance. He should grow up, and definitely not complain when she turns off his wifi the one time where he should definitely be helping her. She is already being lenient with him by not taking away all of his devices, so he can get off his a*s for a god damn 10 minutes while his kids are being fed.

Start saving $, reaching out to friends and family, build a support group & start mentally preparing for a divorce. No, I'm not negative, no I'm not jaded, no I'm not over reacting. I HAVE LIVED THIS. This is unfortunately never going to change. It's who he is. Don't waste time wishing it were different or think if YOU change he will change. You can't sail a ship together when only one of if helping bail out water. You can't be in a partnership when there's only ONE of you contributing. He's a selfish pr*ck who wants a vacation disguised as parental leave. SPOILER ALERT-- the father of your children ...IS A CHILD. Tell him to move back into his mother basement and take his video games with him. If he doesn't see this as a special moment in his life to bond with his offspring ....then his heart is dark- he will not change.

Does he lock the bathroom door when he is in there? If not then tell him after 10 minutes I'm bringing your child to you to feed. And when he is on his computer the other times, take him one of the kids with their bottle or diapers and say,Here take care of your child while I handle the other. And I would casually mention his lack of helping to his mother, unless she doesn't like you and would be on his side..

He's been playing video games for 8 hours a day for two months straight? That's one hell of a paternity leave he's got. After the first couple days of that I would have lost my sh*t. The wife needs to develop a backbone and tell him to start acting like a parent or he can gtfo. She doesn't need a third child in the guise of a grown-a*s man.

An experiment I read about recently: Take two fresh slices of bread--don't touch them; use plastic. Put one slice in a bag you can zip lock or seal. Rub the other slice against your phone, then place it in a separate bag. Wait a few days and see what grows. Then stop taking you phone into the bathroom.

So instead of talking to teach other, flipping WIFI on and off is how you manage your relationshop. This is not about being an a*****e, this is sadening. Although it is easy to judge this guy as leaving from his fair share of duties, the situation might be deeper than can be interpreted from her writing. Fathers can be insecure, too. The only way to solve this is to talk about it, confirm each other, and back-up each other in times of needs without EVER judging. This strengthens the relationships and will make things easier, as also the children will be much more relaxed.

I have a co-worker that uses this tactic to avoid doing jobs that he doesn't want. Has at least 2 twenty minute sessions per day.

As stupid as it sounds I'd tell his mum, see what happens then. She'd kick his a*s for you. And for those saying about communication 1. She's already tried that 2. She is managing twins by herself atm when does she get the chance to talk with him

As your children get older - you will see who they gravitate to more when they are hurt... need something... have a question or want a hug. Guess who that will be.

I'll get right to the point, your husband is an a**hole, and he's obviously not interested in being a parent. I'd highly recommend getting rid of him asap. If you don't, I predict that in the future you'll look back at this time, and regret not having done so. Mark my words.

She should leave him and take the kids, or kill him and claim self defence, that would solve the problem.

That's the technique I used to avoid chores when I was a kid ... Stopped doing that long ago ... There is a point where you need to grow up and take care of your responsibilities.

They probably have limited Data on their phones,so the Wifi usage gives him lots more time to avoid being a dad..

Then you'll have some idea of wether there are more mould spores on your phone or in a bag of bread. Super useful! *facepalm*

I don't think a father spending time playing video games instead of spending time with his kids is insecure, I think he's lazy. If you prioritise video games over spending time with your kids, then you shouldn't have kids.

They both shouldn't be parenting since they obviously aren't even mature enough to settle their problems. Seems like another case of children having babies.
