Convincing your parents to get a cat can be hard. You tell them you did all the research on pet care, they say "no". You tell them you will pitch in to help cover the expenses, they say "no". Eventually, they start repeating that word so often and with such confidence, you start suspecting if they are humanoids, not yet programmed to understand the concept of "yes".

But there's one argument that might override their system and install the required update—the Twitter account 'Why you should have a cat.' It describes itself as "the perfect account to show to your parents when you want a cat," and it's sharing funny and adorable cat photos to achieve this goal. In fact, the pics are so cute, I'm certain you will enjoy them even if you are no longer a child and already own a feline. No wonder the account already has 830,000 followers.

Cats do a thing called "mirroring" - it's a form of social bonding where they match the position of other cats or even humans. This cat really is copying it's people to show love!

When you do get a cat, ASPCA recommends purchasing high-quality, brand-name kitten or cat food. Your veterinarian will be able to assess your new pet and determine the best diet. Factors such as age, activity level, and health make a difference in what and how much a cat should eat.

The good news is, most cats stay relatively clean and rarely need a bath. That being said, you should still brush or comb your cat. Regular brushing helps keep your cat's coat clean, reduces the amount of shedding, and cuts down on the incidence of hairballs.

You should get your cat its own clean, dry place to sleep and rest. Line your cat's bed with a soft, warm blanket or towel for comfort. Don't forget to wash the bedding often, too. It's also best if you keep your cat indoors. Of course, every situation is different, but outdoor cats do not live as long as indoor cats. Outdoor cats are at risk of trauma from cars, or from fights with other animals. They are more likely to become infested with fleas or ticks, as well as contract infectious diseases.

All indoor cats need a litter box. You should place it in a quiet, accessible location. In a multi-level home, experts recommend one box per floor. Avoid moving the box unless absolutely necessary, but if you must do so, move the box just a few inches per day. Remember, cats won't use a messy, smelly litter box, so scoop solid wastes out of the box at least once every day. Wash the box with a mild detergent and refill at least once a week; you can do this less frequently if using clumping litter. Do not use ammonia, deodorants, or scents, especially lemon, when cleaning the litter box. If your cat refuses to use a litterbox, please consult with your veterinarian. For more information on how to look after your cat, visit ASPCA.

A new take on the universal "If I fits, I sits". You should have a cat just so that it can appropriate your sandal.

The mask on the kitty supurrvisor is the best. Even a cat can wear a mask. What's your excuse?

I had a cat for 15 years and by the end of his life he became very ill. I have, on more than one occasion, looked at him like that when I had found a food that he wanted to eat (he was a die-hard Whiskas eater for 14 years, no matter what superior food I bought, but by the end of his life he could stomach hardly any food except almost pure meat).

I love to visit establishments that have working kitties. They're just folk trying to earn an honest wage.

Wow! This cat is living the life. That cat house is gorgeous. And the cat agrees: "Yes, I know that I am glorious. You may worship me.".

The cat on the baby is so dangerous- please keep cats out of cots folks, SIDs sucks

Seconded! The cat doesn't mean harm, but babies cannot regulate their temperature and the cat could cause overheating, leading to SIDS. Babies are not strong enough to shove the cat out of the way if it is accidentally smothering them. You can get netting to put over cribs and cots to stop cats getting in. Keep the cute kitty-baby cuddles fully supervised folks!

Would prefer the cat not to be in the cot... babies should ideally sleep on their own without too much bedding or cuddly toys to potentially cause over-heating or discomfort. In my case, I have two cats- the one that weighs 4kg I barely sense when she lies on me, the other one that weighs 5.5-6kg I very much feel.

On a baby too young to turn, a cat's body against the baby's face can cause the baby to breath in carbon dioxide trapped in the cat's fur and no access to fresh air. Like telling parents not to position a baby where it's face can be buried in soft bedding. Same issue - no access to oxygen.

When my oldest was a newborn, up through being a toddler, my cat would sit above his crib, bassinet, bed, and guard him. Never climbed in with him or on him, but was always watching. And if you came in and were not suppose to be there, he would hiss and attack. Best guard ever.

My mother in law said to me, when I told her we had a cat "Aren't you afraid he will steal his breath"? And I said, "Nah, the cat will be ok."

cats are also known as breath stealers for the fact they used to suffocate sleeping children by laying on their faces.

I bought one for my baby's room but my cats didn't really like her so left her alone luckily. Screen doors are a really clever idea

My Grannie would have freaked out if she saw any of these images. She was born in 1900 so she believed that cats could steal a persons breath. She wouldn't let my cat in my bedroom till we showed her articles in JAVA about the cause of SIDS. I was 7 or 8 years old. She still made Mom check 9n me constantly for several weeks cause she was sure I was going to die.
