In alcohol abusers, testosterone levels drop and estrogen levels elevate. This is why some physicians specializing in hair replacement inject steroids or testosterone – blocking hormones directly into the scalp to stop hair loss and promote hair regrowth.
Vitamin D – They get plenty of sunlight, and they don’t shower to wash off the absorbtion of it, since it takes over 48 hours for the skin to absorb it.
They eat less food overall- Food isn’t as plentiful, so their insulin stays low even though they aren’t eating healthy. Also they don’t eat much meat, since it’s more pricey, so their iron stores stay low which also helps keeping insulin levels down.
The lack of bathing. It’s really unfortunate, but since a homeless person probably does not have the opportunity to wash their hair as often, their hair is not stripped. Shampoo strips hair of natural oils, and thus can make it dry. In fact, most beauty gurus and ‘experts’ of the sorts say you should try to wash your hair every two to three, even four days- or as long as you can make it.
