If The World Feels Like A Terrible Place, Here Are 50 Of The Most Wholesome Things People Shared Online To Make Each Other’s Day
The idea behind feel-good stories is that it's important to counteract the negativity of bad news.
Of course, there will always be skeptics who say maintaining optimism in the long run is impossible and that every attempt to prove otherwise is just a form of escapism, but every now and then something happens that puts a smile on your face and makes you believe that we're all going to be OK.
So we at Bored Panda put together a new collection of such moments to remind you that there's still good in this world. Whether it's someone beating an illness or caring for an animal in need, we people are strong and have an endless capacity to love, and we can't forget that.

Sometimes, the impulse to consume negative news can be difficult to resist. "We are evolutionarily wired to screen for and anticipate danger, which is why keeping our fingers on the pulse of bad news may trick us into feeling more prepared," says Cecille Ahrens, clinical director of Transcend Therapy in San Diego, California.
Following the news may be necessary to stay informed, especially during a crisis but according to Ahrens, the feelings of fear, sadness, and anger triggered by negative headlines can keep people stuck in a "pattern of frequent monitoring," leading to worse mood and more anxious scrolling (doomscrolling).

Ddoomscrolling can take a toll on mental health. Studies have linked the consumption of bad news to increased distress, anxiety, and depression, even when the news in question is relatively mundane.
Graham Davey, professor emeritus of psychology at the University of Sussex, says exposure to bad news can make personal worries seem worse and even cause acute stress reactions and some symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder that can be quite long-lasting.

The root of our interest in bad news may be the result of feeling vulnerable or helpless or overwhelmed.
"Let's say you are feeling stressed out at work and you disengage from your tasks to pick up your phone and doomscroll. Once you catch that compulsive behavior, check in with yourself and ask what it is you are thinking and feeling,” says Megan E. Johnson, a licensed clinical psychologist and researcher specializing in trauma and brain-behavior relationships.
"Once you understand your need, then you can find a realistic and appropriate way to get that need met, rather than compulsively turning to doomscrolling."

I Volunteer At The Humane Society And Fell In Love With This Girl. I Cried When I Found Out She Had Been Adopted. Two Weeks Later And She Was Returned For Being âToo Lazyâ
Took her straight home to her new couch where she is the cutest potato. Don’t know her name yet but just look at that face.
Or, Sweet Potato (cuz she is sweet & a potato & her arms are orangy-ish)
Load More Replies...I love my lazy dogs. Short walks, limited playtime, endless snuggles, what could be better?
Agreed! I got me a potato dog right now. Nothing better
Load More Replies...You were meant to be her person. The universe made sure she would be.
The best dog I ever adopted was returned twice because â she was not pretty/cute enoughâ!!! She was my Angel forever dog and she lived to be 16. Miss her everyday.
I think Sunny, Sunshine, Sweet potatoe (T'toe for short). I'd call her Sunny, because she looks like Sunny afternoon at the beach. Maybe a bit lazy but lovely.
I didn't see yours until after I posted my comment. First thing I thought was Sunny.
Load More Replies...No, that's wrong. SHE decided to go back to shelter because the humans were not deserving of her! Now she has a loving home. â€
How can a dog be too lazy. I didn't know we had them to do jobs around the house. She looks very comfortable. I would name her after a flower. Our dog is Lilly.
Hahaha... well. Let me tell you about my dog now. First of: I love her to bits and I don't want her to change. But when my old boy died and it was time for a new dog, her picture spoke to me because it was so full of life and power. So I adopted her, thinking I get a dog now that will kick my lazy a*s a bit and has me doing all outdoor-fun-stuff, like biking and all that. Turns out, my girl likes nothing more than being lazy and comfy in a moderate temperature. Too hot? Nope. Cold is okay. But rain? Double-nope! Bike-riding? Well, I found out how slow you can ride your bike before you fall over, lol. Best girl ever (only had male dogs before ;-) So no competition) but she'd definitely be too lazy for very active people who'd love to take the dog along for their hobby
Load More Replies...I'm dying to know what a human uses as a gauge to declare a dog "too lazy.' She didn't take out the garbage? She didn't ask if she can get them anything while they were eating dinner? Didn't make sure the lights were off and doors locked at night? Gawd. May all dogs feel so happy and secure that being "lazy" is one of the ways you know THEY know they're loved.
Her breed is typically used to work and guard livestock, especially cattle, hence their name Australian Cattle Dog. They also make loyal and devoted family pets.
Load More Replies...Who says she's lazy she's contributing enormously to society with that cuteness
Something ridiculous, l worked at a refuge got a cat returned once BC it was too catlike...some people..honestly, save me from Stupid!
Load More Replies...I'm not crying, you are crying! I absolutely love this doggo and happy for her new family â€ïž
Thank you for bringing her to her new home. You must be a good person.

Just going to type Daisy - I got beaten to it. She's totally adorable xxxxx
Too lazy?! The only thing that makes me reluctant to get a dog is the fact they usually are very active and always on the move, while I'm a couch potato if ever there was one. A lazy dog? Sign me up!
She has been through so much and it takes, sometimes a year for pets to finally feel safe. Anyway she fake the lazy part in order to live with you.
I can't understand that. Most dogs don't have to work, so why is a lazy dog a problem? It is a super dog, you only have to make nice small walks with them. There are so many people who want a dog but not walk to much with it. And such a sweetie she is!
My rescue dog wasn't returned. He was never adopted in the first place. Rejected outright by everyone else, b/c he had special needs. He had a bad heart murmur. And epilepsy, but that was unknown & didn't manifest until after I'd had him several months. I'm told he was a day away from euthanasia, when I adopted him. He was 3, lived with me for 7 years, & didn't need meds (apart from his epilepsy pills, which he didn't need until a year after I adopted him) or even act any different from any other dog, until the last couple years of his life. He was there before my hubby, before my son, before it wasn't anything but me & him, in a shĂtty 1 BR apartment. He was my shadow, my baby, my confidant. Went everywhere w/me. He lived to 10 years old, a good age for a dog w/a heart as bad as his was. I never regretted adopting him for a single second. Even with his health issues. He was my heart dog, & I still miss him every day. I even have a tattoo for him. There will never be another like him. RIP Goblin. â€
I second Daisy. Sunflowers are too peppy where a daisy will stay with you a long time. đ
Name her: "Girlfriend" that way, when you're out and about, all you have to say is: "Hey! Girlfriend!" ( I know, it's silly.....)
Lazy Susan? And that sweet face can take up space on my couch any old time.
She's an Australian Cattle Dog, or Red Heeler, used for centuries to herd livestock but they can be great family pets too
Load More Replies...Damn, a lot of dog owners would love to have that "problem." Congratulations; she's beautiful.
She needed you - the right angel to take her in. I don't think the other people should have animals. I am sure this4 legged angel is coming out of her' shell'. Happiness and love to you both
She'll get comfortable and grow into her own special personality they missed out!
Most shelters tell potential adopters what the energy level is of an animal. I would still have the vet check her out and make sure her health is ok. She looks like a snuggle bunny!
what's wrong with lazy dog? if you want an active dog read about the breed and adopt an active breed!
I think the people who returned her are jerks, but to be fair, she looks like a red heeler, which are known for being extremely high energy.

Turning to your phone might just distance you from the colleagues and friends and family who could help.
"All it will do is temporarily distract you from your uncomfortable emotion," Johnson adds. "But those unpleasant feelings are there for a reason, and they communicate to us our needs, so we cannot just silence them with distractions. Once you become aware that what you actually need is support, then maybe you can reach out to a colleague and delegate some tasks.”

Given that avoidance might not be practical, experts suggest these three ways to make your experience on the internet more positive:
- Be mindful of what you consume on social media. If you log on to connect with other people, focus on the personal news and photos shared instead of the latest headlines;
- Seek out the content that makes you happy to balance out your newsfeed. This may be images of cute kittens, beautiful landscapes, drool-worthy food videos, or something else. You could even follow a social media account dedicated to sharing only happy and positive news;
- Use social media to promote positivity and kindness. Sharing good things that are happening in your life can improve your mood, and your positive mood can spread to others. You may also like to compliment others on social media. While this might sound awkward, people will appreciate it more than you think.

You might also want to consider doing something nourishing for yourself – such as being outdoors in nature or making your favorite meal. This might help shift your mind from troubling news and create a more positive and resilient mindset that can better deal with worries.
At the end of the day, we have to accept that some things are just out of our control and focus on the ones that we can, in fact, change.
