It's tough to stay positive when coronavirus deaths top 10,000 globally and entire nations go on lockdown. And in the midst of the fear and uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, each day seems to bring news that's worse than the day before. However, as in most major disasters, tragedies, and public health threats, there are reasons for a better future.

So, even though it's difficult to be the “it could always be worse” type of person during these difficult times, let's try. After all, what other options do we have? Bored Panda has compiled a list of good news about COVID-19 to complement the ones we already have, so scroll down and check 'em out!

It's worth mentioning that most people with COVID-19 recover. Current estimates suggest that 99% of people infected will beat it. Some people even don't experience any of the symptoms at all. Yes, thousands have died, but the overall death rate is about 1% (or perhaps even lower), far less than MERS (about 34%), SARS (about 11%), or Ebola (90%), though a lot higher than the average seasonal flu (0.1%). Condolences to all the lives lost to this illness, and we should expect many more cases, but if we were to isolate the fatality rates, it could be far worse.

Also, scientists have found out how the novel coronavirus breaks into human cells. This will significantly help to develop treatments. It began when researchers revealed the first picture of how the novel coronavirus binds with human respiratory cells to produce more viruses. The scientists in China then solidified the images all the way down to the level of the atoms at the binding points. With this news, understanding how the virus enters cells will significantly aid researchers in finding drugs and vaccines to fight the virus.

A good example of this also comes from China where local medical authorities reported that a drug used in Japan to treat new strains of influenza appeared to be effective in coronavirus patients. Zhang Xinmin, an official at China's science and technology ministry, said favipiravir, developed by a subsidiary of Fujifilm, had produced promising results in clinical trials in Wuhan and Shenzhen involving 340 patients.

Not Often Do We See People This Young And Mature. Bravo Edmidgley, We Are Sorry You Had To Step Down

reddit.com Report

Next, humanity's response to future pandemics should improve. "The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed shortcomings in healthcare systems throughout the world that provide an opportunity to improve them," Robert H. Shmerling, MD, wrote in the Harvard Health Blog. "For example, a faster global response, better and quicker distribution of testing kits, and more coordinated and coherent public messaging should be expected the next time around. (No guarantees, of course.)"

The new coronavirus epidemic is a huge problem that's probably only gonna get bigger in the following weeks and months. For those who are infected and those trying to avoid infection, these are definitely tough times. But, as Shmerling put it, "Amid all the doom and gloom, there are some positive stories, positive messages and reasons to remain hopeful."

There are no people producing toilet paper..it's a mechanized and runs 24 hours. That's the only reason why stores keep getting shipments.

It's the folks on TV and radio and all their backup folks who keep us informed. It's the fire department, the police officers, and the EMA. It's the governments and bureaucrats who are trying to organize so very many details too numerous to mention. It's the scientists who are working to find a vaccination. It's even Amazon that is hiring 100,000 people to keep up with orders but helping laid off workers at the same time. It's the car companies volunteering to retool factories to manufacture key medical supplies.. Not all folks are front line but where would we be without all these other folks backing them up.

We could last a lot, lot longer without obscenely overpaid actors, athletes, CEOs and hedge fund managers than we could with woefully underpaid cops, firefighters, bus drivers, teachers, etc.

Don‘t forget about all those who work in critical infrastructure - electricity, waste management, telecommunications, water and waste water, public transport, road maintenance, power generation etc. These people are easily forgotten. There’s always a big uproar if any of their services malfunction/fail but nobody thinks about appreciating them when everything goes right. And if you are lucky to work from home (therefore, still having a job), don‘t forget to thank your IT department colleagues! Without them, there would be no WFH.

In our modern world we tend to make heroes out of the wrong people. I think we all know the kind of people i mean!! Let us realize we are surrounded by 'heroes' every day who quietly do the jobs that really make a difference to society. Let's remember that when all of this is over.

Oh jesus. How do you think business start? From saving your paper route money? People wouldn't have jobs to begin with sans bankers, and they wouldn't have pensions either. How about people stop the virtue signalling. Lots of people are important. You aren't special. And what does this have to do with teachers and shelf stackers? F**k off with the virtue signalling. Rich people are not inherently bad, but you're inherently jealous.

May I ask, why the teachers? They are safe in their homes, they are getting their full pay, and most of them are not even teaching, so why are they on this list? Don't get me wrong, I respect teachers for what they do, but I do not believe that they are doing anything heroic in this situation; they are not doing anything that is on par with the others who are mentioned here.

Other people that are being forgotten again are the homeless. They have no where to quarantine that is not crowded to the max. One guy that I know that's homeless in the area was still standing on a corner with a sign asking for work or help. I gave him $50 and he started crying. I just hope they don't completely lock down everything or these people might starve to death.

It's not propaganda, the elderly are more susceptible to corona, like they are with influenza, and many other illnesses. It doesn't mean that some won't survive this pandemic. Just like some of the younger victims will sadly die from this.
