This story occurred in 1996. Scarlett lived until 2008--she always needed a lot of care after this event occurred. Unfortunately, one of the kittens, the little white one died a month after the fire due to a virus. All of the other kittens were okay though.

She was the "spokescat" for Northshore Animal League, Port Washington, NY, until she passed at 12 years old. 4 of her 5 kittens lived after being rescued.

We read a short story in school when I was younger called Scarlet, about this cat! Or at least or similar, I remember being so happy it was based on a real life story and that the kitties where safe

I remember this story. Except for one of the kittens dying, it otherwise had a happy ending. Scarlett got the happy life she deserved

I think that all of us Mothers would absolutely face those flames to save our children.
I remember when this happened. It was within the same time frame as when the notorious Susan Smith drove her two little boys into a lake strapped into their car seats and killed them. I remember Ophah having the cat story on her show and saying, "It's a shame when a cat is a better mother than some humans."
I sure hope she has a forever home with one of her babies!! What a sweet loving momma some human moms will never be when compared with one hair on her body!!

I talk to every cat, england or poland. We go to see my dad in poland and go to the seaside- bet you I bother every cat. My dad and my husband just gave up and roll with it. It's gonna happen anyway lol

I pat a cat for the first time in over 20 years this weekend. Went away with the family to a farm and there was a cat that seemed to like our cabin and would sit outside all the time. He would also try and get inside the cabin but he isn’t allowed and I am allergic to cats. He was a gorgeous looking cat and had such a beautiful temperament. I was umming and ahhing on whether I should risk patting him. I couldn’t resist I gave him a little pat then ran to the kitchen to wash my hands thoroughly. I usually don’t see myself as a cat person for a few reasons and that is because of my allergies, and it also pisses me off when I see cats roaming, cats coming into my yard and dig up the garden to s**t, they kill wildlife and leave half eaten corpses around etc. Bit the fact is the cats are doing what comes naturally to them. The problem isn’t the cats, the problem is the owners. My judgement of cats themselves is misguided.
*Feral* cats in Australia are a huge problem. They have and are devastating wildlife. I have taken "stray" cats in for TNR. before that became a thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wF_omFE7Etc <<<<
