Internet Destroys White Woman Who Called The Cops On Black Folks Having A BBQ With 24 Brutal Memes
Merritt Lake in Oakland, California, has seen some crazy stuff. According to locals, creepy men are jogging there in Speedos and women are walking their cats on leashes. However, people think that a recent video by Michelle Dione has captured the weirdest incident that has ever happened there.
A white woman called the cops to stop a few black folks enjoying a BBQ. "I hear you have a problem with these gentlemen having a barbecue here at the lake. What's going on?" Michelle asked while recording the lady. She responded that it was a non-charcoal grilling area, "It causes extra money from our city to do things when children get injured because of improperly disposed coals." Lake Merritt has six designated barbecue zones ― three that permit charcoal grills and three that don't. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the unidentified woman was actually correct. But it's her attitude and the way she handled the situation that people are debating over the internet.
"My husband was one of the men being harassed at the barbecue. I was up the street from the park and had just finished eating brunch with our daughters," Michelle told Bored Panda. "He texted me a picture of the woman and said 'If I go to jail this is who did it to me.' I immediately called him, asked what was going on. He said she wouldn't leave him or his friend alone for two hours and kept saying they were going to jail for barbecuing. So I asked where in the park he was and immediately walked down there with our daughters."
"I think it is really incumbent on all of us that when we call [the] police, it is for emergency purposes," Oakland City Councilmember Lynette Gibson McElhaney said. "I want to encourage people to know when to call the police, when to raise a question of regulations with the city council, maybe there is a passive way to reach out to us."
McElhaney claimed she is not aware of any reports of children being injured by discarded coal, but Dana Riley, a spokeswoman for Oakland’s parks department, told HuffPost that the last time they received a report of a child being burned by discarded coal at the lake was in 2015.
Eventually, Oakland police did arrive at the scene. The officers took a report, both parties claiming they were being harassed. No citations were given and no arrests were made. The group were allowed to continue the barbeque.
"Compared to other stories relating to people of color getting harassed and targeted for various reasons, and the many times we hear about police shootings, I think this one story had a happy ending for many people," Michelle Dione added. "It was not a happy ending for the woman who was harassing the men, but it was for the many people who made the video go viral. The feedback is amazing. The Black community is thanking me for exposing a problem on video that they often deal with but feel like many ignore or do not believe their stories. The White community is thanking me for exposing something that opened their eyes and has given them confidence to deal with harassment whenever they see it."
In response, Oakland residents held a huge cookout on the same site a few days after the controversial events. The backlash spread across the internet as well, transforming the woman into a meme. What do you think about all of this? Let us know in the comments.

this is funny, but this whole thing is just depressing. people as stupid as this woman shouldn't be allowed to use telephones.
"he keeps shouting about a dream he has....yes, I think he might hurt someone..."
"Yes, they just finished brunch and are showing love to one another. Help!!!"
"i would like to report a fat black guy and his friends singing catchy songs."
" yes police this is Susan i see black people catching the holy ghost" Police: (dial tone)
"yes the 2 black men seem to be about to attack a poor innocent white man behind his back...."
Hello police there's a large number of blacks taking a photo, I think they're going to start rioting
Sometimes, people *deserve* to be memes, and made fun of. This woman is an awful human.
Let's not forget the moron who called campus police on a graduate student who had fallen asleep in the student lounge.
Load More Replies...My only question is: Why does this suddenly need to be a race issue? The way I see it the woman was just one of those very strict types that wants everyone to follow the law. No bbq in a no bbq zone. Sure that is still an attitude that is worthy of some discussion(especially if the folks holding the bbq are not actually causing trouble for anyone) but just because it's a white lady and black dudes this becomes a race issue??! Just sad
It's because there is a series of white people calling the cops on black people. Having a BBQ, sleeping in a dorm, waiting at Starbucks, etc. Highly likely unconscious bias plays a big role here.
Load More Replies...The police officers face is pure gold, you know he's thinking don't laugh and I can't wait to tell my buddys about this later.
I'm kind of on the fence on this one - according to the blurb she was actually correct, in that they should technically not have been grilling where they were. So then the internet takes the p**s out of her forever, and the whole neighbourhood go back and have another bbq, laughing about it. Let's just switch this around for a second - what if it's a black woman calling about a group of white guys doing something that they ACTUALLY are not legally supposed to be doing, the police aren't interested and the whole WHITE community heads down there the next day to show support to their rule breaking buddies. Would we all be cool about that? Because she may be petty and grumpy and blah but end of day it WAS against the rules. If the rules is stupid, change it, but if it's not, enforce the bloody thing. I feel sorry for the grumpy old cow.
It says they were allowed to BBQ there, just not use charcoal. She could have called the correct authorities (apparently one is not supposed to call the police in such cases) and walked away. Instead she stood there for two hours and stole a card from the lady making the video (which is why she didn't leave her alone). She was in the right, but handled it poorly.
Load More Replies...Ok, I saw the video. The woman was talking ONLY about the charcoals and there was another woman, who super aggressively shouted about the first one being racist.
Weeeell, in my country, that sort of complaint - about not doing something correctly in public - is actually fairly common. I've not been able to watch all of the video because I'm not in the mood for dram, right now, but while it is very likely that this has a racist background, I'm not 100% convinced that it justifies the outcry. Looking at the woman's face I think she'd do the exact same thing on anybody using a charcoal grill in that area.
Sometimes people have trouble on letting other people be... Is it too hard? It's very confusing for me.
The amount of stories about these kind of incidents happening in america honestly shocks me a little. London has its fair share or idiots and bigotry, but its nowhere near as casual, neither is it acted upon by authorities or citizens as much
(Rant mode activate)This was in no way a racist thing. They had a charcoal grill in an area where they are not allowed. I'm not saying she should've called the cops, put alerting the park service is fine. This is just another of the sickenningly many cases where people just fall back on racism. Anyone remember the black guy who sued Old Navy for the cashiers thinking he stole the jacket he was wearing? I saw so much praise for that man everywhere the story was, while no one even questioned the fact that it was basic theft prevention for the cashiers to stop him if he was wearing their jacket that still had a tag on, despite the fact he got it many months ago. No one considered that he may have walked in there wearing that coat proudly with the tag in sight, just so he could film three poor minimum-wage cashiers performing basic theft prevention and then get them fired so he could sue and complete his sick get-rich-quick scheme. To be applauded by the media for 'fighting back'. Please.
The woman who made the call is obviously mentally ill and needs psychiatric help. What an awful waste of time for law enforcement. Nothing better to do except loiter in parks making other people lives miserable. Should give her a job on the council here in Australia they are equally obsessed with making everyones lives miserable.
Omg ALL OF YOU (I’m sorry) maybe she had a bad day or maybe a relative died from the charcoal you people don’t even know. But if you do know her and she is racist then fine. My opinion (hopefully not offensive)
"the unidentified woman was actually correct." A child being burned by discarded coal at the lake some time ago. -- enough said.
Five years ago, seems just like yesterday don't it?
Load More Replies...I bet this woman regrets this day and never forgets it. A very good lesson for her to have learned. At least I hope she learned something. Unfortunately, some people are as thick as tree trunks and never get the message. She may be one of those!
Okay ppl... IT'S 2018!!! MY GOD. When I saw the video that was messed up! When she called the police and they arrived she was having that white lady attitude. But before that she was fine and just confronting them for using JUST A FREAKIN CHARCOAL GRILL! This woman is a fake
People with entitlement wanting dominate over other individuals... I didn't deem this as a ethnic attack, however I have no respect for that woman trying to disturb that family's/group's intent of wanting to have a peaceful outdoor bbq outing. Side note... I want to know if Michelle ever got her card back :P
I found the video and watched it sorry it was blocked for me and she is a b***h
I try and be a kind person and yet I have zero empathy for her when she started crying. She deserves to cry and feel threatened. Kudos to the woman who continued to follow her and berate her and let her know she has done a terrible thing.
Wow, so you aren't OK with racism, but are fine with harassment. Interesting.
Load More Replies...She even said that it has nothing to do with race. The person taking the video even says "you're calling the police on people for having a BBQ". What? Why are you all bent on finding racism when there isn't any? If anything you're more racist for assuming she is because the third party is black hahahaha
To be honest, if a bunch of Wakandans with advanced weapons and body armour turned up outside my house, screaming a nationalistic chant, I'd probably call the police. You need a permit to have a political demonstration in my country (which isn't Wakanda btw. If it was Wakanda I'd be fine with the above).
People need to just chill and stop picks my stuff apart. Things turn out better that way tbh
I think regardless of whether you see this as a race issue or not, this woman deserves the backlash she is getting. Whether she was harassing black men or only harassing men because they weren't following the rules, she is a nosy b***h and needs to stick to looking in the mirror before she calls the police on anyone else. Who the hell calls the police because of a bylaw issue??? Especially over something this stupid. She could have politely pointed out the bylaw to them and walked away but instead she stalked them for over 2 hours and then "felt" scared when she was called on her behaviour. Go home Susan, no one cares what you think.
shes a nutcase the best is we have a black man in the white out i dont feel safe
While I watched this I actually felt embarrassed by her. I felt mortified. I'm so glad I don't know this woman, what a 'precious' woman.....
It always amazes me that people don't understand what being on video means.
This is b******t both those women are harassing people, who follows someone so agressively for so long! This whole story sucks...
Her card was stolen and she wanted it back. If the woman didn't want to be followed she should have returned the card.
Load More Replies...I think that people should have to take a basic I.Q. test before they get access to a telephone.
For Christ's sake with the histrionics, she truly missed her calling as an actress!
What an unbelievable b***h. And I love that she was the one that had an attitude & pulling s**t but wouldn't give the girl her stuff back but as soon as the cops show up she's crying & hyperventilating, scared & being harassed. 🙄 Give me a break. What a dumb c**t. 😒
Always funny when white folks deny racism. "Oooh! I didn't see it so it does not count," "it doesn't affect me so it doesn't exist." "Oh I know racism exists but not until I say it is racism." "My Dad said there is no racism. My dad is always right. He always burns crosses with his friends to show he is a Godfearing Christian." Puhleaze!
Really? She was being a pathetic hall monitor type, but racism? How in the everloving F**K did you get to such black/white thinking? I guess since even speaking to someone constitutes racism, there's no point in not actually being racists. Apparently there is nothing that can't be perceived as racism. Because merely addressing someone can be called racist, I might as well say "Go f**k yourself, n****r!" because there's no difference.
Load More Replies...Calling the cops is excessive here, but cities don't have a department to enforce bylaws and park rules. The cops do this. Ultimately if a cop had walked by he'd have to fine them, or at the very least warn them and ask them to move. This is simply an "old man yells at cloud" moment from this woman, but of course the activist (no, she was not a simple passerby) who was *called* on the spot to film this video had to turn this into a racism thing. You're all being played into ruining your country.
If she was truly calling due to a violation in the park it should have been called into a different department. Maybe she needs to attend local meetings that deal with these things. Emergency numbers are for emergencies not complaints. She should have been fined for wasting the officers time. No need to be rude to people, maybe they did not know the rules. If she was being rude then she deserves all the memes and many more. I hope she never wants to bbq in the park. All the black folk should show up for the day and make her uncomfortable.
She was on hold after calling the non-emergency number. They obviously did not know the rules, as this article mentions, and the authorities were only involved after the first man involved told her he knew where he could and could not barbecue and to go away. https://www.lakemerritt.org/park-info.html I'll turn the racism thing around and ask if he would have listened to a fellow black person who was trying to warn him against getting a ticket or a warning from the police? Anyone can barbeque in the park as long as they use the right equipment in the right area.

There was NOTHING in this situation description that was about race. Why then it was made into "whites vs blacks" situation?
Because white people bbq with charcoal there all the time and nobody stops them.
Load More Replies...And of course there is no racial bias in that statement. I don't understand why the words crakka, cave-beast, and white trash are perfectly okay to sling in public comments, while the lady insists race has nothing to do with this several times in the video and is still assumed to be racist. And why I've been called a racist multiple times while pointing out the actual rules in the park. I thought the whole point of not being racist was to give the other person the benefit of the doubt before assuming they have the stereotypical traits of the absolute worst behavers in the other group.
Load More Replies...Anyone know where to find the conculsion to this s**t show? I wanna laugh more as the fat lady breaks down and plays the victim.
Granted the woman was a buzzkill, but was this specific spot designated a no charcoal grill spot or was it not? If charcoal grills were not allowed and they were using a charcoal grill, then this citizen had every right to call the police. If you decide to make it a race issue then go ahead and feed into the illusioned hysteria that the media is trying to push on us all. Also, the lady with the video camera was an a*****e and was trying to push the white lady to get a reaction.
The police themselves said it wasn't a reason to call them. so you obviously don't know what you're talking about.

Let's see. The people were in the wrong area, and there are multiple reasons that parks have specific designated cooking areas. Furthermore, this being California, with all it's extreme big government and environmental attitudes, why is anyone surprised that she called the police? We also do not know what happened prior, like, did she ask them to please cook in the designated area, and was rebuffed rudely? It's simple: follow the law.
Most Californians (most normal people) would call the police about the illegal BBQ and then leave. This loon stalked these men for 2 HOURS. Over a charcoal.

I wanted to watch the video to find evidence of racism, but ouch 30 min? That's some impressive battery life there. So yeah racism.
No, if you call the police on a black family unknowingly breaking rules of a park and accuse them of following and harassing you when you were the one harassing them for two hours, and then stole one of their possessions while crying on the phone about how you feel unsafe, then you are racist.
