From how we dress and what we eat to how we talk and even what we allow ourselves to feel; we humans need to internalize a lot of rules if we are to properly function in our societies.

But as you probably know, it can be tricky to rationalize if our actions are acceptable or not.

Recently, Reddit user IPlayBongos was browsing the platform when they came across the question "What feels illegal, but isn't?" in one of the subreddits they follow. "I can't remember which one now, but it was a post that had ... one funny answer (I think it was ... about feeling guilty to leave a supermarket without buying anything.)," they told Bored Panda.

"I thought there must be so many other things that feel this way in life so I just went to r/AskReddit to see what people can come up with."

IPlayBongos reposted the same question there and it instantly caught the eye of the 35.6M-big community. So even though it's not technically an original idea, the Redditor did correctly identify the immense potential of entertainment it possessed. And we're really glad they decided to seek more replies because of the nearly 9K comments IPlayBongos has received, many pinpointed the exact circumstances our moral ambiguity kicks in.

Since we at Bored Panda had such a blast going through the discussion, we decided to compile the most interesting ones and bring you in on the fun too. Enjoy!

30 People Share Things That Feel Illegal Even Though They're Perfectly Fine Bringing your baby home from the hospital the first time. I remember thinking “they’re really going to let me just walk out of here with this fragile infant and no experience?!”

Munich11 , Hollie Santos Report

"I would say most of the answers were driven by some expectations that should be fulfilled by some societal measures, but it somehow feels wrong if they are not," IPlayBongos said. "Like in the supermarket example above, it just feels strange to go inside a store and not buy anything because if you leave empty-handed it feels awkward to just pass by the cashier and simply say bye to them or to just slip out around so many paying customers."

Or consider another scenario: you're talking to colleagues during a coffee break and your boss rolls around. "Even if he doesn't say anything and you're perfectly ok joking around on your break, it somehow reminds you of your duties and the fun dies down."

"One of the top comments was a guy who uses a wheelchair, but still can stand up if needed," IPlayBongos added. "It makes perfect sense to use a wheelchair even if you're not completely disabled, but maybe it's also the fault of pop culture and the infinite gags about faking a disability that we feel like wheelchairs are strictly for people with serious disabilities and others are fakes."

The Redditor said it was actually one answer that they did not expect to hear and that is precisely why they like the platform. "There's always someone who faces completely different challenges than you and it is eye opening [to hear about them]," IPlayBongos said.

My dear old dad used to say not to lend more money than you're willing to lose. Solid advice, I don't lend money to anyone besides my mom. I never expect her to pay me back because she's mom and has only ever asked twice to borrow money.

Or in front of. Heck, I get nervous driving behind them because I had a cop use his rear speed radar and some questionable and unsafe driving tactics to goad me into speeding, just long enough for him to drop behind me then pull me over. He ultimately fined me for doing 70 in a 60, saying he could've nailed me for 75. Judge threw it out in court after hearing about his shenanigans on the highway. Apparently he had a habit of using unorthodox and unsafe maneuvers to trick people into breaking a traffic law just so he could ticket them. I still had to pay admin fees but that was nothing compared to the $300 fine itself.

You actually shouldn't drive right alongside any car for any stretch of time. I'm pretty sure there are laws about it but it depends on where you are of course. Either way, it is dangerous and pretty inconsiderate of those behind you who may want to pass.

We had a patient who was a cop and he told us how they sometimes messed with people by driving 20 mph in a 40 mph speed limit. Or for metric folks, 30kmh in a 50knh zone. It didn't matter the speed limit, the drivers would never drive faster than them, no matter how slow they went.

Loathe these kind of power tripping skip-lickers. Two stories from ex-patients of mine....The state's police force got hammered by the courts out here up in NSW for a very large scale entrapment they ran one summer involving multiple unmarked vehicles impersonating learner drivers, officers with radars on the top of cliffs, lookout unmarked cars and motorcycles. The lookouts in the unmarked cars would radio the waiting "learner" officers there was a target coming (motorcyclists in particular because they frequented the area). The "learner" would pull out suddenly in front of the motorcyclist and then proceed to drive incredibly dangerously and slowly to just under the limit, veer in the lane, unicorn braking etc etc and then "wave them round" of course they would do that in an area with double lines or on corners etc and then surprise, surprise a motorcycle cop would spring from the bush to ping them. It all fell apart when they were taken to court and there was footage of it all...

..... Another former patient of mine (truck driver) told me how there was a well known situation with a certain highway patrol officer who would drive his patrol car, with even headlights off at night, in the tail shadow of semi-trailers on a well known highway here so he was basically invisible and sit there until the driver did something minor and ping them. Well one night the target happened to see him slide into place so he let him sit there and then when he knew the cop was as close as possible slammed on the brakes and of course the cop hit the rear trailer. Took it to court and officer got roasted for unsafe and unconscionable conduct. It brought a smile to my face

I drive past them, and have even kept one from cutting me off. No lights and/or sirens, you're the same as everyone else you assholes. I've seen them FLY down the road when I was doing 10 to 15 over, they've tailgated me before, and it's annoying. If you're in a state where going 10 to 15 over the speed is fine (like where I am), then just do that. Cops actually more often get angry at the people who do the exact speed.

I'd be on the highway behind slow traffic. I'd finally get to the front and there's a cop doing 55 in a 65 w/ no one in front of him. I passed him doing 65. Once I got in front of him and others realized you can't get pulled over for doing the speed limit, more people started passing him. If I was that cop, I would have had a good laugh. I would also intentionally drive 55 mph (with no emergencies going on, of course) just to mess w/ people.

I remember a friend had a car we called the Flintstone mobile. Front passenger floor board was so rotted you could see the street through it. In the car with friends. Passenger tells driver cops are behind her. That's not the worst because her muffler just fell off. Right there in front of the cop car. She stopped and went to get it. Cop told her it was too hot.

I was recently on a 3-lane interstate highway. Left lane had a town police cruiser going 65. The town was not nearby, but nobody wanted to pass a cruiser. I passed him on the right at about 70mph, then moved to the left lane. Out of their jurisdiction, no power to stop anyone.

I live on the fast lane. I always check around me, are there many cars or is it practically empty? What if that car moves to my lane? Always predicting the sudden movements on others before I pass them. Seen enough Idiots in cars videos 🤣 Anyways, I was late for work and the fast lane became slow and crowded all of the sudden. I looked on the other two lanes, saw the cars were far enough and turned my blinker to move to the slow lane since it was almost empty and pass the fast lane traffic. I raised my speed and low and behold, with my amazing peripheral vision I saw a black trooper at the front of the fast lane. My heart started pumping and I started to say, I am done for. I released the accelerator pad (to reduce my speed) when I see in the front mirror, the trooper turned to my lane, behind me 😳 I felt as if I was in a movie, he noticed my speed quicky decrease and turned on my left to peek on me thru my mirror. Saw me seriously looking at the front and left me alone 😅😏

I will pull off at the next safe moment to avoid driving next to a cop. And its not even for fear of being pulled over. Its because I saw a video of a cop who flipped on his lights to oull someone over right next to a busy highway. She slowed down to about 20 mph and turned on her flashers to signify she was trying to get safe. He pit maneuvered her after like, 30 seconds of no further change. And she was about 25 feet from the next turn out. And I get why she wanted to be safe, she was pregnant.

This technically is actually illegal. Until you pay for the goods, you do not own them and the shop owner/manager has the right to withdraw any goods from sale. By eating or drinking the produce before you pay for them you are taking away the owner/manager's right to exercise control of their goods.

This is not illegal but it is shady, First the mask thing is nothing, everyone is wearing or not wearing masks right now, However when you walk into a store with your hood up and sunglasses on inside a store it possibly could put the staff on notice that you - might - be there to steal. I know it's not fair but they don't know you, they've never met you so they have to go with their instincts.
