Just like humans, fruits and vegetables also have a cycle of life, filled with constant growth and changes. And, just like humans, their populations also have some weird fruits that don't fit in within the norms. Alterations in farming technology and methods, GMOs, and other factors can alter plants' appearances so much, they might start looking like something from Chernobyl.
Bored Panda has compiled a list of terrifyingly cool photos of awesome fruits and funny vegetables that proves how easily the common become bizarre. From strawberries sprouting seeds while they're still on the plant, to randomly blooming artichokes, and forever growing vegetables that seem never to stop expanding these plants would surprise even the most experienced gardeners. Scroll down to vote for your favorite flora Frankensteins, and feel free to upload your own photos of unexpected seed germination.

Load More Replies...Is it just me who isn't terrified or uncomfortable looking at things which are completely normal and natural.. not to mention commonplace enough not to be panicked about ?Or am i missing something here !!!??????
You are not alone XD but let's panick! PLANTS GERMINATE! Beware! Killer tomatoes are coming!
Load More Replies...Terrifying really? Growing plants? Let's fear the killer tomatoes strike back !
What's creepy about this? It's just nature doing its job. The longer we stay inside four walls and spend time on our phones the faster nature will start feeling weird to us till such time we have lost all connect with our roots. It's sad.
What is there to be frightened of just plant them in the garden growbag or allotment have fresh veggies in a few weeks that's what I do all the time have lovely apple trees pear trees plum trees cherry trees lovely fresh veg gro wing all year round don't waste it grow it save tons of money in the long run
I think people who are finding this disturbing are experiencing Trypophobia Or something similar to it. I don't think about not knowing where food comes from. It is sort of like a visual version of Autonomous sensory meridian response. These responses can be very common.
YES! And thank you for mentioning it. I AM an old country gal and know what all these things look like in the "wild", except the tropical ones. What freaks me out the most is how NONE of these self starters have a single spot of decay on them. Yes the seeds sprout from the fruit ALL THE TIME, BUT what is triggering the seeds to sprout before the right time? And in temperatures well below normal?
Load More Replies...Well I didn't find that terrifying at all scary would be to have a seed sprouting from you tooth which I've seen that on facebook before
It's so weird how vegetables come from plants and propagate like plants do. Those seeds sprouting plants of the same variety as the fruit they came from is spooky as hell too. Gimme a f*****g break.
Dude, leave any kind of plant alone long enough and it starts to progress in life. Artichokes and other bud/leaf plants start to bloom, fruit seeds start sprouting (normally the fruit would fall, get slightly broken and buried, then seeds would grow as it rots), tubers and root veggies start growing new stalks and roots, and nuts and seeds begin to germinate. This is not terrifying, it is natural and something you can take advantage of to grow more food.
You guys should see the idiotic comments this has if you access it on your phone instead of your computer. All the comments there are Facebook linked. SO many people screaming "GMOs!" because apparently they don't know that this is perfectly natural. Besides, there's no such thing as non-GMOs as we've been genetically modifying food since we first learned to farm. Field or lab it's all the same. It's just in a lab it's more predictable. In fact, WE are all GMOs. So the thing you fear is exactly what you are!
The "scary" part is why are fresh, ripe, non-bruised, healthy produce sprouting inside itself? The point of seeds sprouting after the produce rots is how nature makes sure the plant grows during warm rainy seasons, not right after it ripens because it will die in the cold dry winter.
Some awesome pix here, many new to me. I've often had baby peppers inside peppers, and spuds are always sprouting. Love the cabbages!
Wonderful! Plant them! You get the trees and fresh homegrown produce!
Some really gave me creeps. But still it was a curious and unusual list. Good job, Bored pandas!

How is this terrifying? These are plants doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing.
I'm currently hiding under the table from my laptop, hoping this terrifying article will go away by itself. Someone help me please...
I have seen many tomatoes sprouting inside. It is generic growing techniques used by Farmers now should be against the law
What IS terrifying is not the photos but the attempts to persuade people that the beauty and wonder of Nature is terrifying. A hidden agenda at work here?
Terrifying? I'm looking at this, thinking, LUCKEH!!!! I'd be grabbing pots and potting soil, potting all these suckers up!!! MOAR PLANTSES!!!!
GMO eh? Forced growth etc? Dude, potatoes ALWAYS behave that way
A woman I worked for had a hedge of artichokes against her back fence. I never knew they are members of the thistle family until they bloomed. They're beautiful.
I see peppers growing inside of peppers all of the time. Nothing unusual or terrifying here. You have to love clickbait! :-)
If this ever happened to be I would be so exited! Plant it immediately and see what would happen
I am so confused. Why are people even taking photos of these very, very normal events, let alone sharing them as if it's something weird? All I can think is they are very young adults that have only been handling their own food for a very short period of time.
How is that terrifying? Those pictures are beautiful if anything. Pictures of how nature regrows and renews itself. Whoever wrote this article is a moron.
The bell pepper.... I had one like that too. Had potatoes too, but didn't take a picture of them. 10299108_1...4ba7d9.jpg
How can you not notice that cabbage growing in your fridge? And well done cabbage!
Terrifying? How about great to know your food has not been irradiate or dunked in chemicals to prevent the natural process of germination.
Loved them all. The need to reproduce is alive & well, even in our produce! 😘
What is terrifying is when good content is ruined by the need to use cliche' hyperbole to get clicks.
This reminds me of that old man in Europe who was getting surgery to get a tumor removed and it ended up being a tree growing in his lungs
I just imagine what would happen if you place a birch seed in a human lung. It probably hurts and tickles and makes you die coughing. Your body would immediately reject and defend itself against the foreign matter - unless you are a really heavy smoker. Hmmm...
Load More Replies...#16 is almost certainly a fake. Most of the rest are likely "organic" produce that hasn't been irradiated to prevent germination - but I'm a bit skeptical about the cabbages, to be honest. As for the potatoes, who hasn't had that happen? Onions too.
I have read somewhere about similar things happening... The bible...?!
Awesome have seen the Peppers and Potatoes but never seen any of the others -- would LOVE to see that Coconut !! Would have come home with me :) That strawberry too !
eat more cows chickens pigs gators deer dogs and cats dead meat don't grow
b******t, most of them are def fake. thats not even an appletree comig out of that apple, which was probably just put there
Ah, when they're young and have just one leaf or so, they all look the same.
Load More Replies...Sure? It seems to happen around all kinds of species.
Load More Replies...Things like this do not happen naturally. These plants are probably genetically modified to reproduce much earlier than they are supposed to. So yes, it's terrifying to think we are eating GMO plants that can begin sprouting inside of us if improperly ingested.
Those tomatoes are not natural. The first thing that came to mind was Monsanto GMO.
Those tomatoes are completely natural and GMOs are SAFE!
Load More Replies...Thank you Monsanto with all of your freaking GMO's. There are countries that won't allow Monsanto inside their countries because of the GMO's they promote. I've had this happen to my tomatoes and it totally disgusts me!!
Also seeds germinating like this is COMPLETELY NATURAL! Oh, and deary, YOU'RE a GMO too!
Load More Replies...That is just some bull s**t, that is ment to change your DNA, and open up other bull s**t treatment centers for cancer, aids etc. That in the end are only treating their pockets.
Because no one knows where their food comes from anymore. Very sad.
