Everyone says something stupid from time to time. Though, most of us probably get away with it pretty easily, since people just laugh it off and forget about our silly brain farts pretty fast. However, if you're one of the famous people then it's a completely different story. It appears that everything a popular celebrity says (or tweets) is carefully logged on the internet and available at all times. Especially if that person doesn't appear to be the smartest cookie in the jar or is lacking some basic education, then that kooky celebrity quote is going to be here forever.

We here at Bored Panda decided to dig into that cloud of shame and find out what are the most stupid quotes that were said by Hollywood stars and famous people from different paths of stardom. From funny to completely delusional, these interesting quotes will certainly make you feel better that you're not the one who said these things in public. Scroll below to read the dumb quotes list!

Buddhism is a philosophy, not a religion. Practicians come from various religions in addition to following the philosophy.

Yes, many societies are patriarchal, but so are almost all religions. Buddhism has a class system like Hinduism, and women are considered much lower than men in these religions.

Did he mean attractive in the sense that people would follow her, and not physically attractive? I sure hope so. And he may be right - most men would not follow any woman leader. Way too full of themselves to see beyond gender.

This may have been taken out of context, I have read much of his writing and this is the first I've seen of any attitude like that. I'd guess he was commenting on the way we overvalue people for looks, rather than expressing his own opinion.

this is not true, no such statement ever made, this is just bullying, how many lives this person has changed? and no Buddhism is not a religion, it is a way to live a good, compassionate way to live, where every gender is treated equally. If you do not know the facts and still say like you know it, its just stupidity!

Sorry to disappoint.... But that isn't what he said. He has been interviewed plenty of times stating that he wishes the next one would be a female BECAUSE they exude peace and have a very nurturing power. That he believes the world needs a female Dalia Lama.

I've been a follower of H. H. the Dalai Lama for over 30 years, a student of Buddhism here...and I've read every single page of every one of his books many times over, and if one thing about him--he has a SENSE OF HUMOR. He did not say this in a misogynistic way-- it was him trying to be FUNNY.

That's not what he said.... He actually wishes the next Dalia Lama would be a women because he admire their peaceful and nurturing nature, stating that the world needs that now more than ever. Had nothing to do with attraction, and if you'd ever heard the man speak you wouldn't have fallen for this lie.

Yer but if Buddhism (like every other religion) wasn't Misogynistic then we'd all be running around crying about some hardship and asking the people who caused said hardship to sort it out for us because we're all too weak and ineffectual to do so! Like ........ "some man has just assaulted me by implying I was pretty, you there good sir, go sort this out for me ...... PUNISH HIM!!!!! All whilst simultaneously being misandrist towards men!!!!!

Carol, that’s because female monks in Buddhism are called nuns. I should know: I used to be one. Also, the dearth of monastics of any gender in Tibet has much more to do with the Chinese mass-murdering them when they overran the country in 1959 and tried to squash the Tibetan culture. And being a monastic for men or women is utterly optional! How on earth do you think Buddhism has lasted for 3500 years if it “requires celibacy”? If it required celibacy, it would have been extinct by about 400 BC.
