Those are the times that it’s acceptable to bombard your friends with pictures of your food, instead of eating it.
There’s a whole community of regular people and dedicated foodies who have banded together to form the online group ‘We Want Plates.’ Their mission is all in their name — they want restaurants serving food on actual plates, not on “bits of wood and roof tiles, chips in mugs and drinks in jam jars.” This is an internet community that loathes hipster things and trends, and “crusades” for the right to have their food brought to them on plates, as Mother Nature intended.

Lesley Lassiter from the Nashville Scene wonders whether the only reason restaurants put so much effort in presenting food is that the owners want to get popular online and get more customers. Naturally, this backfires more often than not because the presentation is impractical and just plain bizarre. There’s also the added question of money: do restaurants jack up their prices just because they spent an inordinate amount of cash on random things for serving food on?

My boss was asked to do something similar with a very fancy vase and a floral arrangement in the top. Even though there was air flow through the stems of the flowers, the fish were dead the next morning. And it was delivered(before the fish died) to his girlfriend, at work, in a restaurant.

But I cant help thinking, that when you serve food on/in stuff which was never meant to go near food, there must be some issues with different unwanted chemicals seeping out into the food. And some of the tings are very hard to clean. Hmmm.

This is because only plates, glasses and silverware are washed regularly, everything else is just wiped - it’s that simple. You don’t want to eat out of anything else anyways because of all the chemicals that are leaked once the surfaces are heated.
Why would anyone serve food that way? Have they never heard of plates?

How these pretentious 'restaurants' even still exist is beyond me. It was maybe something cool and trendy 30 years ago, now it's just every place trying to be more hip than every other place, causing controversy to attract customers. Sad, really. But hey, if people want to throw their money at rubbish then so be it.

This is what restaurants do in order to be able to have crowds in that are not from the neighbourhood. People go to eateries like this for the experience, not for the food and in return for coming up with the most outlandish or shocking ways to serve the food they get to charge a higher price. I do not believe that they have many, or any, repeat customers. With the exception of the restaurant with the dessert on the floating cushions, which is a three-star gourmet restaurant, most of these places are probably not overly concerned with the quality of the food they are serving.
My question is how did they find these restaurants? In the age of the internet most establishments are on yelp or have social media so one would know that this is the types of weird things they do. Its usually normal when someone is ordering to look at other peoples food at different tables, did no one notice others eating out of weird things? I would of left right away, some of these seem unsanitary.
With the exception of the one with the shovel of food, all of these show that the restaurants can't cook a decent meal. They try to hide behind 'kitch ' , and suggest that 'if you don't get it, go to a diner'. Nah... They're making money trying to figure into the 'Instagram worthy ' trend. It's c**p, unsanitary, cheap, flavorless, and sometimes cruel.
I will not go to any of these so called creative restaurant in the first place. Those people eat at that toilet restaurant it's their own fault. I always check the reviews first and we only like our normal restaurant. Creative for me is on foods not on those disgusting thing they put on. I will def file for complain if they serve me on those.

A big concern, for me at least, is whether the Props that the food was served on is hygienically clean. Food poisoning from the varnish of the wood block, germs from the pegs of the hanging nachos, bacteria from the serviette the starter was served on, etc.
My first job was as a dishwasher in a diner. Most of these clearly have not taken the task of making them sanitary enough to eat off of into consideration. I later worked as a sous chef and the idea of working to produce something delicious just so that someone could ruin it by serving it in a way that would effect the flavor (i.e., on the back of a hand that was washed with soap or on a porous surface) is horrific.
None of this looks good. I personally would refuse it. My son took his children to a place where the food was served on dustbin lids!!!!! I have been served food on cracked wooden bread boards!!

While walking through a restaurant I will often glance at the tables to get an idea how the food looks and how it's served. If I was to see any of these presentations, I would excuse myself to the person leading me to my table and promptly leave their premises. I vote with my wallet.

While walking through a restaurant I will often glance at the tables to get an idea how the food looks and how it's served. If I was to see any of these presentations, I would excuse myself to the person leading me to my table and promptly leave their premises. I vote with my wallet.
If ever I own a restaurant, one rule will be implemented - any chef, waiter of other such staff member who places food on anything other than a plate or a bowl will lose their job immediately. NO exceptions. F**k outta here with that hipster weirdo s**t.
Chefs and restaurant owners spend a lot of time creating experiences that are more fun than eating at home. It is not just about the food! Doesn't it give you a lot to talk about if you are served a chocolate dessert in a toilet bowl?
I hope I have better things to discuss than eating chocolate out of the toilet. Frankly, the food, the service and the company are the most important components. If I have to have some kind of gimmick to have discussion, I'm in the wrong company. Food should be appealing, not WTF!

Up voted you, I consider this a legitimate question. And no, it's not just a millennial thing. There were restaurants in the late 70s, early 80s where the chefs were trying to make a statement. Don't know if there were any as extreme as some of these, but I do remember my dad ranting about not wanting to pay "for some a**holes ego"
