Many internet users call Australia the land of the 'NOPE'. But it's so much more than that. Just take a look at the country's subreddit and you'll see what it has to offer.

Physics teachers defending their houses from bushfires? Check. Sexy calendars? Check. Public bike repair stations? You bet. The members of this sub share pictures of pretty much everything that makes Australia the unique patch of land that it is.

Tony Abbott, a former politician who served as the Prime Minister of Australia, has said that "Once people come to Australia, they join the team." So since traveling in real life is still tricky, join Bored Panda on a voyage to the biggest Aussie subreddit on the internet.

Interestingly, Australia is considered the second driest continent after Antarctica. When you look at the busy Sydney harbor or the impressive skyline of metropolitan Melbourne, it seems almost unbelievable that nearly 40% of the continent is uninhabitable.

The lack of rainfall is one of the main reasons why such a huge amount of its landmass is so desolate. The national precipitation for 2020 was 483.4mm (19 inches). For comparison, even California gets about 563mm (22 inches) of rainfall every year.

This arid, uninhabitable part of Australia lies in the middle of the continent (the Outback), away from the coastline. And this is also the reason why more than 80% of the country’s population lives within 50 kilometers (31 miles) from the coast.

acidic comments about the cat being photographed before going to the vet. The owners obviously care about their cat and are happy and relieved that she's back. No need to assume they are not properly taking care of her.

I know, right? If my cat came back in that state, I'd ring the vets and they'd get her in in an hour or so, but until then I'd be feeding her and calming her down and taking a gazillion photos because I am so excited she's back. Dunno what the other commenters expect - kitty is immediately loaded on some kind of waiting pet ambulance to be rushed off to A&E?

From Reddit: Bozwoggle 1y Update: Micky still has not returned. Angels ears needed another trim but look to be healing ok and her mood is good. More fire danger next few days so tense times ahead. Thanks to everyone for the kind words and support it means allot to my family. To all those asking; She has been to the vet and been given a thorough look over and clean up. They had to trim her ears a bit and they will need multiple follow ups but her lungs and eyes are ok, as are her feet and skin. She should make a full recovery. And as a bonus the Bega Vets are treating all fire damaged animals for free as well as giving out food and pet beds. They also had donation last from other places to be able to do that. It’s so great to see the community come together in these dire times. Her name is Angel and she’s my stepdads closest companion. We had to leave her when the fire descended whilst we where packing to evacuate. The two cats ran off into the bush when the fires came and we couldn’t find them. Edit: she doesn’t roam the bush killing everything. Angel is an an inside cat but ran out into the bush because of the panic of our evacuation from the incoming fire.

We had a house fire & our pittie now has PTSD from it. If you burn something on the stove or toaster, she gets a full-on panic attack. :( I can only imagine how this poor kitty must feel...

If you want to TRY to help her, research "Desensitizing Techniques" for dogs. And don't let anyone yell or punish her when she's triggered, it'll only make it worse. But don't baby her too much or she may start "faking it" for attention. (See the book "Your pet isn't sick, he just wants you to think he is".) It can be a very fine line to walk.

Me and my two cats have a system. If i say "emergency" in a panicked voice they come find me and don't resist the carrier. But you can't abuse the word, it's only for emergencies, we practice when there's an earthquake or thunderstorms so they know s**t's about to get real

That's really great! How did you train it? I mean, did you train it apart from real earthquakes or was it something that happened and you got lucky and developed a routine? I think that's a really smart thing to do and if there's any tips on how, I'd love you to share.

Does it really matter when the photo was taken? The cat was probably starving, homesick and scared. The people did the right thing, making her feel safe again. Thank the Universe that they have their baby back with them, that is all that matters, not when the pic was taken.

I live in California and had friends in Paradise (they're fine, the house...gone). I get nightmares about fire coming to my town and my poor half-blind cat confused and scared fleeing for his life. I feel this picture so f*****g hard. He's in my lap right now purring and getting love, but the fear is still there. Global warming is real. We need to stop sacrificing people's lives because our countries lack the will to do what is necessary.

This cat seems to be OK, so I don't know why anyone would be upset that they mentioned this online before going to the vet. For all we know, they have already spoken to the vet and want to feed her before they leave.

It is not. This is the feeding the traumatized kitty, perhaps before a vet visit, picture. The vet would have cleaned her off and put salve on her ears

Aboriginal Australians first arrived at the Land Down Under from Maritime Southeast Asia sometime between 50,000 and 65,000 years ago. From the rainforests in the north, the deserts in the center, and the sub-Antarctic islands of Tasmania and Bass Strait, they penetrated to all parts of the continent.

In fact, the artistic, musical, and spiritual customs they've created are among the longest surviving such traditions in human history.

The first documented visit to Australia by a European was in 1606. The Dutch explorer Willem Janszoon landed on the western side of Cape York Peninsula and charted about 300 km (186 miles) of coastline.

There are claims of earlier landings by the Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese, Arabs, and Romans, but there is little credible documented evidence.

If there is something that Aussies in today's world are known for, it's their easy-going and friendly attitude. They can put aside stress to appreciate the good things in life that are right in front of them. We're hoping you'll be able to enjoy this list just like that!
