13 Times Brides Couldn’t Hold Back Their Happiness Because They Wore Dresses With Pockets
Some time ago, Twitter user Esther Kezia Thorpe posted a picture on Twitter of her friend’s wedding. A perfectly normal thing to do, except that the bride’s wedding dress was anything but normal. It had pockets.
This revelation – meaning that the bride could now carry her lippy, phone or anything else she needed right up the aisle with her – quite blew Esther’s mind and started a viral thread that has just gone on and on.

Because sure, pockets are very useful things and it makes you wonder why it has taken this long to come up with such a simple innovation. Brides have traditionally carried a small bag for their essentials on the big day, but why not make use of all the space in that billowing skirt?

As the #weddingdresswithpockets hashtag started to go viral, many women decided to share their own pocket stories, as well as pics giving beautiful examples of the trend in action.

The educational thread that followed is a lesson to all wedding dress designers – the days of pocketless gowns are numbered!
Bridesmaids awkwardly shadowing the bride, bag in hand in case she needs anything, are just not practical in this day and age. “Wedding dresses are often not designed with practicality in mind,” Esther explained to Bored Panda. “But a wedding is the one day a bride is unlikely to have a handbag handy, so pockets are more essential than ever for tissues, lipstick, and of course, snacks (no one wants a hangry bride!)”

Plus the ability to casually hang out, hands in pockets on your wedding day looks incredibly cool and laid back!

Women have been demanding more pockets in their clothing for some time now, with jeans one of the few options available if it’s storage space you’re after. Even jeans’ pockets can fail sometimes, however, being simply too tight to take much more than a credit card.

“Pockets on women’s clothing has been a growing issue for a number of years, especially as we become more attached to our phones,” Esther continued. “It’s very rare to see any women’s clothes with adequate pocket space for an Oyster card, let alone a phone!”

“I’ve heard rumors that it’s a conspiracy between fashion houses and handbag designers – if we aren’t given pockets, we have to use handbags!”

“Having recently found a few niche retailers who do work dresses with pockets, I’m now a firm convert to proper pockets. They’re a life-saver, especially during hayfever season when it’s essential to have a pack of tissues handy at all times.”

In many ways, the wedding dress is the ultimate expression of a victory for pockets in women’s clothing.
It’s about time too!

What do you think? Do you welcome this trend? Do you feel that women’s clothing needs more pockets in general? If so, why do so many women mock guys who wear cargo shorts/pants, which are pocket rich and just awesome? Is it simply jealousy then? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Here’s what people had to say about the handy innovation
Hide confetti in your pockets and start throwing it at your husband after saying the vows!
I'm happy to find a dress with pockets period let alone a wedding dress.
Parents raise me in way it is disrespectful talk to someone with my hands in pockets. And I find it very impropriate while getting married in front of future husband and whole family. It is useful for keeping things, but thats it. Hands out of pocket in front of altar, please.
its still bizzare. cause i would have a pocket to put things in, not for my hands per say as i dont put my hands in pocket anyway. but seeing you kiss with hands in pocket just seems weird. like wouldnt you wanna touch your partner at that moment?
Yaaaaaasssssss! Adorable cat pic’s, smoogie doggo shots, ice cream, and pockets in every *single* piece of clothing I own, including bath towels for the walk from shower to closet in the morning.
It's not just about wedding dresses. More dresses and women's pants in general should have pockets. I am visually impaired and just checking your pockets to make sure where your personal stuff is gives you so much peace of mind. I can't always carry a purse around, I need one hand free at all times. So yeah, POCKETS. Please.
I will admit: I might see a dress that's cute but just so so looking- but if I see it has pockets it's SOLD!
As much as i love and need pockets, taking wedding pictures with your hands in your pockets is just like... 'are you serious?...' To me, anyway. I absolutely understand having them there to store things inside (which i completely support and love) but.. keeping your hands in your pockets at the altar or when taking precious pictures while kissing your new partner? What is that? Besides looking sloppy..
Can someone explain the point of this, other than it being "women's clothes don't get pockets so this edgy design will work"?
I was planning on putting my lipstick in my cleavage (sweetheart neckline, ample bosom) when I discovered POCKETS in my wedding dress THE. DAY. OF. Incredible!!!
This is very useful and it doesn't detract from the beauty of the dress, at all. Why is this even an issue? You need pockets, buy dresses with pockets. Oh there aren't any? They stopped designing dresses with pockets ~100 year ago? If only the fashion designers weren't deaf and living incommunicado somewhere in a cave, someone could have told them. I'm always amazed at the fact that women don't say what they want/need, just to be polite or something. And I'm not talking about the things "we" should know without being told, that's a completely different 800+ pages book. Where were the women 100 years ago that needed pockets? Who in fashion decided that women don't need pockets? And why didn't anyone just, you know.., tell them?
Sorry, while re-reading my comment I got the impression that I was criticizing the "victims", my bad, I was just ranting against the whole world for not talking to each other in good faith.
Load More Replies...i could never have pants, or jacket/coat without pockets. i feel sorry for women with little or no pockets.
I make my own dresses so I can have pockets! If I ever get married (I'm leaving it kate it know..) I would like a dress with pockets.. not for my hands but just for things!
This would've been so awesome!! I had other people carry my stuff in their pockets on my wedding day.
Lol this is from a thread where people Photoshopped women’s arms out to make it seem like they had them in dresses
Maybe it's because wedding dresses are commonly made or altered for the bride, so unlike most other clothing, the lady has a chance to request pockets. Cargo pants are are seldom smart or cute, and the pockets are mostly in the wrong places.
Adding pockets would probably cost a fair amount. Having them come pre-installed is better.
Load More Replies...I disagree. It makes them look stylish and forces a flattering posture.
Load More Replies...Our pants aren't "too tight to use the pockets we already have". Our pants don't have pockets. They have zippers leading to nowhere and sewing lines that look like there's pockets but nope, nothing there. And if we do find something with pockets, then we'll be lucky if they're big enough to put a chapstick in. They sure won't fit our phones, wallets or keys. And as for the tightness... I'd LOVE to buy loose pants, it's just that the stores nearby don't sell anything loose.
