Lunatic Bride Sends Out A List Of Crazy Rules To Her Bridesmaids And People Don’t Even Know What To Say

We’ve all heard stories about over-controlling nuptial freaks, aka Bridezillas, who take wedding planning to a surreal level of craziness resembling the Kardashians’ show. Some of that juicy stuff ends up in the Wedding Shaming subreddit and you can read entertaining and hand-selected wedding dramas from there in our previous posts here and here.

This story also comes from the same subreddit. The redditor u/justasianenough shared an incident on how, to her very big surprise, she was invited to be a bridesmaid for her best friend’s sister who was always very “mean” to her. With red flags already coming from the complicated relationship the author and the bride have had throughout the years, it got way crazier when the bride sent out the list of bridesmaid rules.

Written in a rude tone of voice, the list included things like asking the potential bridesmaids to lose weight and not get pregnant as they’ll be uninvited. Apparently, bridesmaids had two choices: to either ‘suck it up’ or ‘drop out now,’ wrote the bride and got everyone’s eyes on the subreddit rolling big time.

Here’s the whole story from the author who received a list of rules the bridezilla sent out to her bridesmaids

The bridezilla phenomenon is very well-documented in the abundance of stories surfing around the internet. So to find out an expert’s take on why some brides-to-be become so overly controlling, rude and chaotic when saying ‘I Do’ is right on the finish line, Bored Panda contacted Annabel Candler, a professional wedding planner and consultant.

“You know you have come across a Bridezilla when they keep having to correct themselves when they say ‘…but it’s my special day!! I mean our day!’. They will vent steam when someone tries to change the plan or offer a suggestion beyond the meticulous theming,” Annabel said when asked how you know you’ve encountered a Bridezilla.

Although Annabel hasn’t actually ‘luckily’ met one, she said that “it seems many films and sitcoms have captured the occurrence well. Take a look at Monica in Friends for a start; The huge binder, the obsession, the stress!” And there are a few certain factors for a Bridezilla to develop. “It’s when wedding planning has been in their minds since they could walk or perfection is a factor in most of their life. There is passion and love there, but it might manifest into a monstrous attitude if not carefully managed.”

And when it comes to telling your bridesmaids how they should look, Annabel said it really depends on a particular situation. She also recommended getting the budget down before committing to any bridesmaid promises. “You can offer to pay for the dresses, but you can also be super flexible with styles. Mix and match, same color but different styles, or vice versa.”

“But you don’t have to buy a ‘bridesmaid dress’ either,” Annabel said. “They are just dresses, so hunt beyond that description. Also think about who are bridesmaids: their hair color, body shape, confidence level, etc.,” she said, adding that in order for a bridesmaid to be “a team player, they need to feel great!”

And this is what people had to comment on this incident

I completely agree. Some of the things were pretty mild (tats can be covered with foundation, that's really the only mild thing), but most of them were absolutely terrible. Hair is a very important part of some cultures, and demanding people cut it is preposterous.

A horrible groom often goes for a sweet woman he can abuse and a horrible bride goes for the poor sweet guy she can abuse. Why would she go for a guy who says something back? If her friends don't agree, she uninvites em, so I suppose he has to listen too, like that man from Hyacinth, from Keeping up appearances.

My sister to me, and these were her last words to me in person: "You're only in my wedding because I need someone to make up the numbers". We spoke briefly on the phone later in the evening, then she died very unexpectedly/expectedly (we kinda figured with her habits, it was just a matter of time), and that was my last face-to-face encounter with my only sibling. I was only in her wedding for numerical symmetry. Well, face-to-face when she was alive. I saw plenty of her dead. TLDR: Cruelty leaves marks that outlast the person who made them.

I'm sorry your sister was so cruel. I was not invited to my sister's wedding, but I was expected (not even asked) to work the party. I did. It took me a long time to understand that this was not normal.

I'd love for her to have no bridesmaids. she can do all these things on her own & hold her own hair. what an entitled brat of a woman. I would have sent a few home truths about her for example along the lines of something ie you need to lose weight, you have an overbite, your eyes are too close together, your hairline looks like an eagles beak & the top of your arms wobble.

I was mostly easygoing for my small wedding, especially since I didn't even have bridesmaids. The musicians I hired didn't want to dress like waiters, so I said, "No probs, just don't wear jeans". I was more focused on making sure my husband didn't get a dorky haircut and that he rented a good-looking suit. I must say, the barber was very good-natured about me watching his scissors like a hawk and he tread that fine line beautifully.

I only believe them bc of how my brother's now wife dealt with her wedding. I had knee surgery a week before and told her I had to back out unless I could use crutches to get down the aisle. She agreed to neither. She "needed" more bridesmaids bc my brother had 7 groomsmen and she only had 4 bridesmaids if you included me....gee, I wonder why. Should add that her bridesmaids were her cousin, two coworkers and myself. Because I adore my brother I hobbled down the aisle and stood on a grassy hill in heels. I still use that as leverage to this day when I ask him for favors lol.

Why are brides doing this? This is nuts. I say no to bring in all weddings now and if I haven't seen you or heard from you in a long time I say no to going too i send a gift. My wedding was wonderful. Had a pregnant bridesmaid my maid of honor wore white tattoo showing. One of the groomsman had blue hair. I love my pictures from my wedding. It was happy and the reception was kick ass. Lasted until the next morning. I refused to stress I don't think it's worth it if youre miserable while planning.

I was a bridesmaid when my brother and SIL got married. SIL only asked that I not wear my glasses for photos, she didn't make me fumble around like an idiot. This is bridezilla turned up to 11. The only thing nice she did was to choose a relatively inexpensive dress. I think the entire wedding party should tell her where she can stick her list, including her sister.

Yikes...See, my biggest problem is with number 7. First of all, it’s incredibly cruel to her friends (who probably would know she’s referring to them), second of all, some people can’t loose weight very quickly, and third of all, if someone told me to loose weight, I’d be clapped straight into a anorexia recovery ward, since at 5’8 and 116 pounds I’m already underweight.

ok my first issue with this is the pregnant thing. some people it just happens whether it was planned out or not. does she expect her bridesmaids to not b intimate with their significant other until after the wedding. wat is she the sex police? the 2nd thing is the hair thing. she wants them to change how they look just so she looks better and she doesnt have to change a thing. shes insane. i told my bridesmaids the only things that were a must was they get their dresses at davids bridal so the color of their dresses perfectly matched and the dress had to b floor length. they were free to pick out the type of dress they wanted so they were comfortable on the day free to choose wat shoes wat hairstyle wat nail color tan or no tan etc. i even let them plan my bachlorette party. best choice i made besides marrying my husband. ive also been a maid of honor 3 times and bridesmaid twice. i never dealt with this kinda crazyness. i mean ya one of my friends went a little overboard with her list but it was all reasonable and she was nice about it. she did do a hair color thing but thats mainly cuz her family is nuts and think ppl with bright color hair r either gay or criminals. so 3 of the girls had to get their hair done and dye it a natural color....they all just went with black lol. my friend apologized for that part of the list she just didnt want her family criticizing us so its reasonable and makes sense. some brides just want it so perfect they dont care about anyone else. me and my friends during our times as brides we cared we took everyone into consideration. this bride only cared about herself

Wow…just..wow. I understand it’s a special day, but seriously? I got married 30 years ago. I let my two bridesmaids pick out dresses (we hired dresses but I paid) asked them how they’d like their hair etc. They were both plus size women, I would NEVER have asked them to lose weight. Our wedding was just so laid back and fun and spontaneous. The MC would ask us when we wanted to cut the cake, make speeches etc. Thirty years later people still tell me it was the best wedding they’ve ever been to.

I agree with #9 (the getting engaged at her wedding), but only because that's poor etiquette by any standard, and she really shouldn't have had to include it in her bat crap crazy list (unless she was meaning don't be engaged at all - break it off for the duration of the wedding, then get re-engaged after - in which case she's so far removed from reality she can't see it with a telescope!)

Wow, I really hate these people! The best wedding I ever attended was my sister's and brother-in-law's marriage, at the Brooklyn County Courthouse. I wore a cheap old hippie dress I'd owned since the 1970s, and our darling Dad attended in a truly hideous, horrifyingly ugly polyester leisure suit - but who cares, we were so happy! We celebrated afterwards at a local Lebanese restaurant - a huge vegetarian feast, lots of tabouli and hummus and giant spinach salads. Good times!

Wow, just wow. I am attending my friend's wedding at the end of summer and I was quite nervous as my clothing style can be described as a medieval pagan maybe even witchy at points. I don't own clothing that would be considered "appropriate" for a modern styled wedding. I approached her with my concerns because I didn't want to ruin her wedding day as I could be sticking out of the group too much. I also suggested that I wouldn't mind buying some affordable clothes just for this event. She immediately waved away my concerns with "I don't care what style you will wear, my only request is for it not to be white. I want you there as my friend and want you to be comfortable in your clothes as well." I love her even more.

I feel like this lady isn't subtle with her behavior nor a diabolical genius in any respects, so either her fiancé is an idiot, delusional, and/or actually appreciates this crap in a partner. Either way, I have zero sympathy for them.

One wouldn't accept any of those demands if you were going together to meet the pope or pick up their adopted kid. You sure wouldn't tell your grandma or your boss's husband they need to lose 20 pounds to show up. Why should anyone expect you to follow them for a chance to watch a legal document get completed? If you want someone at your wedding or any other party, want them for who they are, not what they could be. Doesn't matter if its grandma, your best friend, the groom, or your mom's boss's husband.

Omg. I can't fathom people like this. Marriage is for love. My wedding was a cheap sundress, near the downtown beach, my parents and my husband's dad, and to top it off, my uncle married us. We went to a nice restaurant afterwards. That's it. If you're having something fancy, why treat people this way? Why do you think you need to be the center of attention? It's just ridiculous.

Why do people think weddings are fun? This sounds like my personal hell. I have stopped going to weddings. Everyone in my family is always getting married out of state & it’s always a major hassle & expense. Imagine doing all this traveling & paying for air fare, hotel, car rental plus everything else & they still expect a gift. Sorry- the gift is me spending $1000 to be here…

I would absolutely drop out bc first off I hate contacts and without my glasses everything within a foot of me is a blur, and secondly I have worked years to get my hair to grow as long as I want and I love it this way, so no way I'm cutting it and starting again. So this bridezilla is not just broke/stingy (you have to pay for your hair and make up test and day of as well as the bachelorette weekend) She doesn't have a grasp on English (engagements still attention too) AND she's an alcoholic (hold my hair when I'm sick in Mexico.). FFS I'd do a hard pass on dealing with that too.

What got me was "What's the point in bridesmaids if they're not there to hold my hair when I'm sick in Mexico?" The bridesmaids act as a support team for the maid of honour, and form the bride's entourage helping with any pre-wedding tasks. I would either break almost every rule here and go to rub it in her face, or just not go.

Jenn Marie doesn't know what "Karen" means. :P Also the idea of "my big day" needs to die a burning death. It's an important day, yeah, but somehow we're at the point of women trying to dictate other people's bodies and it's because society places too much importance on *one* day, "you only get one so it must be perfect" and of course for the Bridezilla, the groom usually has no say in it.

One little detail that got me. She has the arrogance to tell people she can easily replace them if they drop out, but she had to recruit one of her sister's friends to fill a spot. I'm guessing this person doesn't have a lot of friends.

If you're so insecure that someone simply being tan will steal your spotlight on the day literally everyone will be looking at you... I feel like this lady isn't subtle with her behavior nor a diabolical genius in any respects, so either her fiancé is an idiot, delusional, and/or actually appreciates this crap in a partner.

We went to a nice restaurant afterwards. That's it. If you're having something fancy, why treat people this way? Why do you think you need to be the center of attention? It's just ridiculous.

You get one day, not a whole damn year. You should never expect someone to turn their life upsidedown just to please you for your "special day", I get so mad at s**t like this, who do they think they are? I would be horrified and ashamed if a friend of mine acted like this.

Honestly I think less about what the bridesmaids or friends of this woman and more about the kind of man she is marrying. He’s either completely weak or so disinterested he doesn’t care… either way these two will procreate and perpetuate the cycle

Does anyone really believe that these stories are true? Who would say "i want to be the only sun kissed Goddess"? And suck it up or you won't get invitation? Seriously who speaks like that? Sorry but I'm not buying any of these stories with brides from hell

Somebody should send her a picture of a pixie cut, but really shave their head and tell them the person doing it sneezed.

Number 4 says it all, the "goddess" red flag. Someone so convinced of themselves spells narcissism big time. Poor hubby to be.

If so many brides weren't overly concerned with looks and posting their wedding pictures on social media, in order to gain the admiration from others who couldn't care less about them, then this wouldn't be a problem.

Just go without your glasses for the day, ok? It's not that hard. Also if she has to ask her sister's friends to be bridesmainds, she cannot afford to replace anyone.

So, so fake. I hope whoever made this got the fake internet point validation they sought.

You've been publishing one bridal horror story a day for the last week. Lockdown has left you all braindead, right?

No it’s because they are so much fun to read. Tip: if you don’t like a story don’t comment on it because they count comments as interest even if the comment is negative.
