Woman Sparks Heated Discussion By Admitting She Doesn’t Wash Pajamas After Every Wear
Content creator Allison Delperdang turned to TikTok to ask a question that just wouldn’t leave her alone: how often are adults washing their pajamas?
And judging from the attention her video has received, it’s a more relevant topic than it might sound at first. In just a few weeks it has already racked up over 1.5 million views and has received nearly 7,000 comments.
The ongoing debate on this automatic part of people’s everyday routine serves as a reminder that the word ‘normal’ can mean different things to different people, so we thought it would be interesting to explore it!
If you need proof that the term ‘normal’ is relevant, Allison Delperdang has you covered

The woman asked TikTok users how many times they wear their pajamas before washing them
“I need to know if people wear pajamas multiple nights in a row. When I was younger, my parents always made us wear pajamas more than like, multiple nights in a row because they weren’t dirty. And I still do that as an adult. I’ve worn these three nights in a row.”

“So I need to know if as adults we’re still doing that or should I be literally making dirty clothes every single night? Are we wearing pajamas multiple nights or what’s the situation?”

For the record, “pajamas” usually mean any kind of clothes that you sleep in regularly, from T-shirts and boxer shorts to old-fashioned slumberwear.
A survey of nearly 2,500 people ages 18 to 30 by British mattress company Ergoflex found that the average time men wear pajamas without washing them is 13 nights, and for women, it’s 17 nights.
And regardless of how you would answer, there are plenty of people who think you’re doing it wrong

Interestingly, the TODAY anchors have also analyzed this topic.
“I wash them like I would wash a T-shirt that I wash every day,” Carson Daly said. “I wash them pretty often.”
“I wear a T-shirt and I wash it every day,” Hoda Kotb added.
Al Roker is a T-shirt and boxers man, and he swaps those out for fresh ones daily.
They also asked their viewers the same question, and the majority (45.7%) of the 2,783 who answered said they wash their pajamas once a week, a quarter (25.8%) said they do it twice a week, and one-in-five (19.5%) said they wash theirs daily. One in ten (9%) probably still live with their parents, as they selected the “I’m supposed to wash them?” option.
Allison’s video has been viewed over 1.5 million times
@allisondelperdang what are adults doing these days? Asking for a friend… #pajamas #laundry #sleep #sleepover #adulting #adult #DoritosTriangleTryout ♬ original sound – Allison Delperdang (Kjar)
To settle the issue, TODAY phoned housekeeping authority Martha Stewart to learn what’s her opinion on the matter.
“I absolutely suggest you wash your pajamas, your nightgowns, your underwear, whatever you sleep in, every day,” she said.
Or, if you want my not-so-expert advice, just sniff it!
And while most people seem to be reusing their pajamas before tossing them into the laundry basket
Some think it’s gross and sleep in fresh clothes every night
Allison also started a similar discussion on towels

“We’re gonna get into bedsheets another time, but I was wondering about towels in people’s comments. So, same thing. When I was younger, my parents always had us reuse towels because when we used them out of the shower, we were clean. So they never had us put our towel in the dirty clothes after using it one time. So now I’m curious if that’s a standard thing or what everyone does?”
And it’s just as dividing
@allisondelperdang Replying to @queen.elizabeth.85 alright. Lets get back into it. Are we washing towels after every use as an adult? #adulting #towels #laundry #laundrytok #adulthumor #DoritosTriangleTryout ♬ original sound – Allison Delperdang (Kjar)
I do wish tiktok would hurry up and die out 🤔
I wish BP would stop promoting these posts that are literally only created to make people argue. This is the most infuriating thing about social media, and these people are taking advantage of it for clout, and then boredpanda gives them another platform to cause more pointless bickering.
I agree, it has become less entertaining when it's mostly AITA questions (if you have to ask you probably are) and people complaining about working.
And yet here we all are 😄
Nearly every AITA post I've seen, the other party member ends up being the real a-hole. I'd attribute that to most people making the posts knowing they aren't one, and just like the feeling they get when so many people agreeing and siding with them.
Then stop being part of the problem. Seems as though you support the exact same social media environmet your complaining about by using its platform. You definatetly reek of the typical hypocriscy syndrome...
Ok maybe i was wrong. Perhaps some people actually do get angry. 😅
I mean... is it really bickering? It's just people talking about whether or not they do their laundry daily, it's not like it's politics or religion. I don't think anyone is actually upset at anyone else, they're just sharing opinions on a pretty innocuous topic.
U just descending internet...
"regardless of how you would answer, there are plenty of people who think you’re doing it wrong". And this sentence sums up the internet really
I was reading hundreds of comments scolding a woman on how she got an additional cat and "introduced" it wrong to the family. A cat! I then realized I need to get a life.
I know, right? Pre-Covid, l didn't know or care what others thought. After 3 yrs of reading the news daily, l find I'm caught up in really idiotic stuff-like their opinions!
I'm sitting here laughing hard, those are two of the best comments I've ever seen on this site. Sums it up perfectly. Been thinking about binning this site off for a while now, its just a distraction of mainly rubbish articles these days, the posts have changed hugely in the time I've been on it.
But, fwiw, it's totally okay for other people to think you're doing things wrong.
Just bc 100 ppl think something is wrong, didn't mean it is wrong. That's their opinion, not a proven fact.
I disagree /s
wtf I wear my pjs for like 1 month straight...
Right? Unless you sweat profusely and don't shower who the hell is washing them daily? What a waste of water
Exactly!!!
Yeah like very least its ok to leave for 1-2 or even 3 days if normal sweat. Especially if change out of them for the day. (Some variance appljes). So i don't get this every day thing. Heck, I go a week sometimes. Its not ideal (for me), wish it was more often for those times but like Middle ground
Who wears pj's? And yes, water is expensive, what a waste.
And unless you're also changing the sheets every single night, you're not staying significantly cleaner by changing pajamas every night.
I can't even keep wearing my pajamas from last night past about 10am when I'm staying home all day because I start to get self-conscious about my smell. I can't imagine putting on the same gross clothes from last night a second time.
same
I can't imagine PJs passing the sniff test for that long, maybe pre-pubescent but not for adults, surely there's sweat and dead skin cells? I can sometimes go 3 to 4 days if I don't feel like I had night sweats.
Actually, bodily smells are based on the bacteria composition on your skin. A lot of people will not develop a smell, no matter how little they wash. So you can't say someone's pj's will smell, just because yours do.
Same, though i dont sleep in them. They get worn every norning until i dress, and every evening from 6ish until bedtime. So not active times,or times when im making a massive mess. I do drop food on them occasionally but eh.. its not like anyone outside my family sees, so why would I care? If someone might see, I'll throw on clean ones.
Same, if it's summer I change them every 4-5 days, but in winter I wear the same one for like a month
