Last Friday, the US Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v Wade, a 1973 landmark ruling that protected Americans’ constitutional right to an abortion for nearly 50 years. The decision to clear the way for dozens of states to ban the procedure sent shockwaves around the country and appalled millions worldwide. Outraged citizens took to the streets to condemn this anti-choice reality.

As thousands of activists, both pro-choice advocates and anti-abortion protestors, gathered outside the Supreme Court and held their handmade posters, one couple stood out like a sore thumb. The beaming pair celebrated the rollback of women’s rights by proudly showing off a sign that read: "We Will Adopt Your Baby." Since they completely failed to read the room, their photo went viral on Twitter, drawing attention to the problems with this point of view.

This picture swiftly took over the internet and triggered an avalanche of reactions, from people expressing outrage about downplaying the potential dangers of forced pregnancy to sharing hilarious memes that poke fun at this logic. Below, you can take a closer look at how social media users took it upon themselves to question and ridicule these anti-abortion advocates. Continue scrolling, upvote the posts you agree with, and be sure to share your thoughts with us in the comments, we’d love to hear them.

They don't want a baby. They want everyone in their prayer group to see what fabulous, generous human beings they are. They are not and I wouldn't trust them with a pet cactus.

This makes me so angry. It's not about YOU!! It's about the person who's pregnant and for their own reason(s) does not want to or can not get through with this pregnancy. Just STFU!!!

This is so disingenuous, especially when you know that abortion results in 1 death per 250,000 abortions, but 60 deaths per 250,000 full-term pregnancies. You are literally 60 times more likely to die from pregnancy/childbirth than you are from abortion. No one has the right to force a woman to take such a risk; it violates her inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

As one of my favorite YouTube doctors says, you can't force someone to use their body to keep someone else alive. Or, as I like to call it, forced organ donation.

The one couple, when asked how many adopted children they already had, made a bunch of excuses about how they couldn't/wouldn't actually adopt a child.

But are all 400,000 of those kids available for adoption? The point of foster care is NOT adoption, it’s reunification with birth family

The comment above the photo says it all. The foster care system is busting at the seams with scared very adoptable children of all ages. Also I guarantee if anyone but another white person went up and asked them to adopt the baby they are carrying they would say no. They are NOT noble they are selfish bastards.

Done with this app. All these people wanting a judgement-free, politically correct world without hate right? But hypocrisy is alive and well the second anyone has a different opinion. All mad at Christians. Bunch of whining a*s, overly sensitive, narcissistic people that are more worried about using abortion for birth control rather than being a little more sensible. For the one that thinks they're clever to reply "what about rape, or medical issues". True. Very True. But let's face it. There are more abortions for people that can't be smart about sex than there are for rape victims and medical issues.

once you have gone through the extreme trauma of being pregnant and delivering a baby you don’t wanna give it up even if you don’t want it it’s a whole spiritual process. Secondly gtfoh maybe God has determined you should only house animals and not be parents. Suck on that

Define "unnecessary". Are you saying people should only have sex for procreation? Never gonna happen. The instinct for sex is a natural biological desire. So are you saying people should deny their basic natures just to appease the morality of the few? Ridiculous.

Unfortunately some couples are unable to have children. They've gone through the testing, get a 2nd and even 3rd mortgage ,401k is gone. All because they want a baby a newborn. They want and even need that whole experience. Later on the ones who really have a love of children will adopt the older children. Most of them are good people who just want a family. Just because their beliefs and ideology is different than yours does not make them monsters. Like others they are doing the best they can in a difficult situation.

'Just because their beliefs and ideology is different than yours does not make them monsters.' Yes it does if they are condoning someone to be forced to continue a pregnancy that, for whatever reason, will damage their lives. That, by definition, is a monstrous thing to do.

It's virtue-signalling pure and simple. If you believe their sign then their intentions are this; 1) Force a teenager (or a rape victim) to carry a baby for nine months against her will. 2) Force a teenager (or rape victim) to give birth to the child against her will. 3) Surrender her baby to them. The worst part is that they are proposing all this with a smug, self-righteous smile plastered across their faces.

If you’re not familiar with the Roe v. Wade case, let us catch you up to speed. It started in 1969 when a 25-year-old single woman, Norma McCorvey, using the pseudonym "Jane Roe" challenged the criminal abortion laws in Texas. Then, terminating the pregnancy was illegal in the state, except in situations where the mother’s life was in danger. Henry Wade, the district attorney for Dallas County, defended the anti-abortion law. Thus, Roe v. Wade.

Roe was pregnant with her third child when she filed the case but was forced to give birth. In 1973, her appeal made it to the US Supreme Court. Her case was heard alongside that of a 20-year-old Georgia woman, Sandra Bensing, where they both argued that abortion laws in their states contradicted the US Constitution — they infringed on a woman's right to privacy. By a vote of seven to two, the court ruled that governments could not prohibit abortions and that a woman’s right to end a pregnancy is protected by the constitution.

This case led to the creation of the "trimester" system that allows the right to an abortion in the first three months of the pregnancy, some government regulation in the next three, and puts a ban on terminating the pregnancy in the final trimester (except cases where doctors certify that the fetus is putting the woman’s life in danger).

But today, millions of American women have lost fundamental constitutional protection. President Joe Biden condemned the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade on Friday, saying it represented "a realization of an extreme ideology and a tragic error."

"With Roe gone, let’s be very clear: the health and life of women in this nation are now at risk," Biden said. "This is an extreme and dangerous path the court is now taking us on." Biden promised in a White House speech to "do everything in my power" to protect abortion rights.

I get the idea of what they are trying to say in this tweet, but it doesn't sit right with me. Those "424,000" children in foster care are actual human beings who deserve more consideration than being used for snark value or a flippantly offered solution that is meant to shame the weirdos with the creepy "we'll adopt your baby" signs. I'm not sure if I'm expressing my thoughts very clear. I know what I mean but putting it in words isn't always my strong suit

Since it’s up to states to decide whether abortion will remain legal or not, some of them have already decided to do away with it — abortion is now banned in at least seven states. According to The New York Times, "About half of states are expected to allow bans or other limits on the procedure to take effect. In several states, the status of abortion isn’t settled: Courts must determine the fate of existing restrictions, or lawmakers are expected to propose new laws to restrict abortion access. In others, abortion rights are protected by state law, and legislators may move to expand access." You can find a more detailed list of where abortion is prohibited, is likely to be banned, legal for now, and likely to remain protected here.

It's like people have forgotten the money the church made from taking newborns off mothers, telling them they'd died or would be an unfit mother while selling them into lives of slavery and abuse (Oranges and Sunshine is just one account). Or sold them for medical experiments. So many horror stories in living memory and so many graves continue to be discovered. Tuam, Ireland is just one heartbreaking example of so very many. History teaches us that the church shouldn't be involved in any aspect of a woman's life...

Even though "We Will Adopt Your Baby" and similar signs have been circulating on social media, their logic is flawed. The "solution" they propose to a problem and the very valid, very real concerns that millions of Americans face now is ignorant. As so many experts and people with experience in these circumstances have pointed out, adoption is not the opposite of (or a solution for) abortion. However, the idea that adoption is a magical cure for unplanned pregnancy and a substitute for abortion is far from new, and anti-abortion activists have been making this argument for decades. But it’s completely wrong.

Anna North, a senior reporter for Vox stated that seeing adoption as a stand-in for abortion "ignores the very real dangers people face when they carry any pregnancy to term. Maternal mortality has been rising in the US for 20 years." These high maternal mortality rates, especially among minority groups, have become a systemic issue and something the nation is not paying enough attention to.

North pointed out there are numerous problems with thinking of adoption as a substitute for abortion. "In order to choose adoption for a child, someone still has to carry a pregnancy to term and give birth," she wrote, adding there are plenty of medical risks involved in the process. Moreover, there are also social aspects to consider, "from fielding unwanted questions to potential abuse from family members or partners who find out about the pregnancy."

Then there’s the pregnancy discrimination with many women being left on the sidelines at their companies, and the emotional toll that goes hand in hand with being forced to carry a pregnancy to term. Especially when you don’t want to.

So it’s extremely unsettling to see these couples holding up the signs and looking to fill their homes with babies from forced births. Especially when you count on the fact that on any given day, there are nearly 424,000 children in foster care in the United States. Why don’t these kids get the attention of the evangelical couples who are seemingly very keen to adopt them? No wonder their blatant statement is causing a stir online, with thousands of people sharing their opinions and expressing anger, and for good reason.
